View Full Version : scepters at vendors
im trying to find out what are the possible mods on paladin scepter at vendors
drognan hell for example?
i shopped some +2 +3 blessed hammer, but can this scepter have more mods like:
+2 +3 blessed hammer 2-3 concentration?
or +2 10 fcr +3 +3?
I have seen +2, 10% fcr, +2 conc, +3 bh that was "magic" - whether it was shopped, or dropped I know not as the ones I have seen have been in the trade window shown by bragging folks that have no intention of trading them away
I do know, that while I too had a relatively easy time shopping a +2, +3, and in the past even +2, +2 conc, +2 bh's sceptres, that the more ultimate ones with fcr I haven't seen hardly at all.
if/when I do find +2 fcr, they're usually unsynergized, or have other less useful aura/mods.
as always, your mileage may vary.

Priests ... scepter of the Apprentice.
You can check Orphan's prefixes/affixes list linked from the FAQ sticky.
A magic item can have one prefix and one suffix.
Priest being the +2 pala prefix and of the apprentice being the 10fcr suffix.
On top of that you can indeed have up to 3, lower then level 30 req, paladin skills which can varry from +1 up to +3.
So a +2 pala, 10fcr scepter is possible, but also a +2 pala, 10fcr, +1 vigor, +2 charge, +3 might.
And offcourse also a +2 pala, 10fcr, +3 blessed hammer, +3 concentration, +3 conversion scepter is also possible.
For my healer I would like a +2 pala, 10fcr, +3 prayer, +3 holy bolt, +3 meditation war scepter.
You can't get Holy shield on a scepter btw. Well, technically you can, but you'd have to have 7 mis-rolls on the skills and the last misroll would have to only contain holy shield as the 'offending' skill. So the chances of that are exceptionally small.

the 'ole does prebuff work on holy shield discussion... (e.g. does it go down when one takes off the pre-buff items?)
it's been a while since I thought about this argument that was posted so long ago, and I'm not sitting at D2 at the moment, but I'm fairly certain that I see a significant difference in my holy shield with battle command, vs. without.
similarly with a skill shrine, and with out.
unless one is making a defiance din, it seems to me that the main purpose of holy shield is to simply get max chance to block of 75%, which depending on shield type doesn't require a whole lot of skill allocation if one is using +2 sceptre, a +2 shield, and at least 1 from skills anyway.
*shrug* :)

Lol, So you're say that you can't, But then you explain why you can get them on a scepter? :S
You can still shop them in classic, I saw one at a vendor this ladder.

If you find a +holy shield scepter, I think you should buy it regardless.
It's allways handy on a char where you are tight with your skillpoints.
Even a +1 holy shield scepter could fetch 3 SoJs easily, since it can save your din up to 5 skillpoints, not counting higher then level 1 into holy shield.
If somebody could link to a screenshot of a holy shield scepter on the Ladder, I'd find that interesting to see.
As for the can't, but this way you can, it's mainly due to the odds. :)

Mkay, I didn't buy. I didn't have enough gold lol.
I beleive it was +2 hs, but might be mistaken. If I find another I'll take ss ofc.

i understand why these mods are possible , but you are certain they are also possible in drognans shop?

last ladder I shopped from drognan a +2/+3/+2 if I recall correctly that I later traded for a soj and ammy. the soj was no doubt a poofer, but I used it to sock a shield - i say poofer, as the ammy did ultimately poof. *Shrug*
I historically have done most of my shopping at drognan via the vigor out of town, clag back into town on the right/east side vendor reset method, and I have seen some sceptres with several lines of modifiers on them... the multiple synergies usually (for me at least) don't start showing up until I'm past cLvl 87 - whether it's a subjective observation, or a matter of some obscure calculation I care not to look up I can't say for certain.
that being said, I did have someone ingame "laff" at me for shopping from drognan, that claimed to have access to A5, and somehow better shopping opportunities that exist in A5...
I was always under the impression that the shopping/gamble calculations were pretty much identical for a given cLvl/Mode. *Shrug*

This can also be chucked away under the subjective observation header, but I think lower level req mods like prayer seem more prolific at Akara's (on any difficulty)

On Classic, the modifier tables are the same as far as I know. That person probably just thought his A5 hack was a big secret and made him cool. Only the normal item types and quantites of said types change as far as I've seen. For example, I think you're more likely to see an Ancient/Ornate armor on Halbu than on Charsi.
I've seen +2 Pally scepters on all Hell vendors around level 82. Akara with a cow portal and Drognan just happen to be the two fastest shops to refresh.
ive been shopping for a while now. I found a
+2 +3 blessed hammer +1 conc now twice:)
hoping for higher conc, cause just +1 is not enough.

Keep the other +2/+3Bhammer/+1 conc ones aswel, since you can sell them on for perhaps a gull or more to a person which doesn't want to or doesn't know how to shop. :)
you wont believe it but i shopped a:
2/3/3 scepter^^
I always seem to find more +2 skill scepters in nightmare than hell, also they frequently seem to have more mods.

I'll go look for my +2 pala +3 holy bolt, +3 prayer scepter there then. Thanks for the tip. In Hell I seem to be very unlucky while shopping for them. Finding about 1 per 20 walks.
I'd avoid walking under Ladders and break mirrors if I thought it would help me find what I seek. ;)
+2 Paladin skills has Alvl 50, and requires at least Ilvl 50 assuming there is a Qlvl 1 scepter (there isn't.). At that Ilvl, the base tier for staffmods will be the Clvl 24 skills, and this can drop down to the Clvl 12 skill at best. Thus, you can't get skills like Holy Bolt and Prayer on a scepter with +2 paladin skills, at least not in Classic.
Difficulty level has no real influence on affixes, the base items have a larger chance to upgrade to exceptional, but that's it. It's as simple as 25% prefix, 50% suffix, and 25% for prefix and suffix.

So this scepter is about the best I can get for my healer, because it can't spawn with prayer next to the current mods ?
Raven Bludgeon (http://wlk.cc/img/d2/raven_bludgeon_holy_water_sprinkler.jpg)
I found a tiny comment about the tier 5 for staffmods not being available as base, so that explains the Holy Bolt on that scepter, and it still disallows the presence of Clvl 1 skills.
just backin up higher mods at higher char levels
even with lvl 70 (sick of csin) i cant seem to find 2/3 of any kind
