View Full Version : Obedience helps firespells?
So, i'm building a good meteorber and i have an andy and eth cryptic axe and a couple of selffound midlevel runes lying about, so i figured to make myself a nice polearm for my holy freeze merc wich will help him to kill off fire/cold immunes.
Obedience seems like the perfect fit because of the huge damage and crushing blow but one thing about it is still unclear to me.
The -25% fireres to enemy works when a merc wields the weapon i presume, but i also presume it only works on the enemy he is attacking, but that still doesn't mean that the monster he is attacking will take more damage from my firespells because of the monsters lowered fireres or does it?
The thing is, when i would wear obedience then every monster i attack will have lowered fireres (i think) but is that at the exact frame i attack said monster or is there an invisible duration said enemy will be affected by the firepierce?
Also, if the monster is only affected at the exact frame he gets hit then is it possible or likely i hit said monster at that particular frame my merc attacks said monster?
Last question is about fireduration, if i for example use a meteor on a monster and then my merc attacks said monster then does the damage that monster receives from the fire damage per second get increased because his resistance is being lowered by the merc, or has that particular second to be perfectly synchronized with the attack of my merc to have any effect at all?
The -fire res only works on the enemy that the merc is attacking and only works on the mercs attacks, I do believe.
Your attacks will not be affected in any shape or form, ever, by obediences -fire res.
To bad, still gonna make that obedience though, looks great even with that setback.

unless the sorc in question is actually holding the Obedience herself, rather than on a merc.
in any event: obedience is a lovely merc wep in a nice eth elite polearm.

you know, i rarely lose my sorc's merc to IM these days. it's quite simple: telebomb the Oblivion Knights. seems their AI is set to cast IM at medium/long range and decrepify at close range. sure, he still dies occasionally, but far less than before i started telebombing the OK's,
and in any event, unless you switch in a very-low damage weapon (or no weapon), all A2 (&A5) mercs are in danger of instagib'ing themselves on IM.

Act 2 mercs will die there anyway, no matter which weapon they have. Taking away his weapon won't help much as well, as he would die from a lack of leech then, and it's annoying to use up 8 inventory/stash/cube spaces to store the weapon somewhere.
Don't go to there with a merc. That also means, don't go to there with a character who needs a merc. Zons are nice, they have an unlimited supply of tanks which are nearly impossible to kill and if they die, the next one is just a mouse click away.

I use eth upped Shaftstop and eth upped gaze, sox with res-jewel and pruby. The 50%dr makes him take about 2-3 hits, which its enough time for me to full rev pot him.

Just a heads up on upping gaze: There's around a 50/50 chance that the upped gaze will have lower defense (but of course a lot higher requirements) than the original. So I'd only do it if I was rich enough to live with one or a few bad rolls. (Which Krem certainly is).
I have both although not ethereal.
If i find an ethereal shaftshop then i will up it (offers some nice defense i think).
If i use a gaze then i would use a great poleaxe instead of the cryptic axe but i think an andy will be a better choice for him.
Mainly i want my merc to hit hard and have good enough survivalbility to draw focus away from my sorceress (wich can solo hell all by herself except from the ocasional fire/cold immune key enemies) and slowdown fast enemies (wich can be a pain for a sorceress).
I also don't have any highrunes but i do have the runes (or atleast the equivalent of runes) for Obidience wich i think is as good as it gets for its price.
I'm not to bothered with my merc dying once in a while though.
If he comes into a situation that he will die then theres not much that can be done and completely focussing on trying to not let your merc die in such situations will hurt me more overall imo.

act one and three mercs dont die and are widely used for various builds/reasons.
