As a zealot i have a feeling you will get RAPED in PvP i checked out the PvP forum... and the stickied list of guides says nothing about zeal... id stick to smite.. or go with huge DR and huge Damage output

zealots are only for melee duels really.. they generally have horrible resists. But it's not hard to boost resists and still kill casters

I had a zealot a long time ago and it was a lot of fun dueling with him. Mainly fought barbs and other zealots.

DANG! i really wanted to be a zealer, ima gonna start playing again, i used to play years ago and back then i guess zealots were good cuz i was pretty much average against every1, it really only depended on skill and items

same here.. just needed to switch out a few items and you could stand a chance against anyone really. I always liked melee duels the best though.

when dueling you will always have to consider casters and other melee duelers, since most are smiter's, chargers, other zealots, and fury barbs, you have to create an edge against them...against caster's, you want ignore target's defense and magic damage, for other melee duelers, you should go for medium defense, low damage, and high elemental since most duelers have DR% and since -ER is easy to obtain, it is perhaps the best choice...that said..your aura should NOT be Fana..it only inc damage and speed which for most zealots, their weapon speed is maxxed with the right weapon, and since theres iron maiden and thorn builds, low damage and high life steal is a must, my zealot is a Holy Shock//Zealot//Vengeance build and it works pretty well in most scenario's...look for max res and max DR% and stay away from deadly strike, crushing blow, open wounds, etc since these will kill you if your not careful

Make a low level zealot.

My half finished lev 15 is doing alright so far, hitting at 420 max dmg per hit (5 hits so total 350 PVP damage providing all 5 hits land), 450 odd life and max block once I get hold of some cow king boots.

Plus its unbeliveably fun joining pub games, hostiling people twice your level and then killing them.

Edit....I have only seen 3 high level PVP zealots and if im honest they are seriously outclassed at higher levels.

there are a few inaccuracies in this post but i wanted to be sure to point out that ITD doesnt work in pvp. to be honest there's a lot of bad info in there.

lmfao.. quoter got pwnd by crawling's critique + 1star rating

Zealers have formed some sort of underground dueling league where they like to bash each other.

Zeal was much more effective in 09, if that was when you played.

standard zeal setup (assuming you are preparing only to fight other zealers of your sort) are;

high damage
high deadly strike
high defense

yeah most good zealots all know each other and are pretty friendly... until some smartass brings in a smiter.

I'm struggling to find any good info at all...

@seb: If you want to make a PvP Zealot, go for it. You probably won't have a lot of success vs casters, WW Barbs and Smiters (or any Smite variants) but apart from that you'll be ok. Of course you won't have anyone to duel because 99% of PvP characters are casters, WW Barbs and Smiters, but that's not the point.

Also, Frenzy = rubbish for PvP.

My advice to you is this, have a look at the PvP guides stickied at the top of the forum and build whichever one you think looks best.

If you only play pubs your zealer can own too, just have to get used to mostly using charge and smite instead of zeal :p

I think, after reading this post, that we, as a forum, are now dumber.

Ok, I'll help you out since my friend plays a zealer and does quite well with it.

Gear layout:
2x ber coa
Highlord/maras
Grief pb/greifz
Enigma
45 base res spirit ST/465%ed +121 atr Phoenix ST/4p sapphire 45 base res ST/exile if you want tap and defiance, but he says that hasn't been needed
20 ias stat tri res gloves/Trang gloves/clegaws/dracs last 2 haven't been needed yet
1 raven with 2nd slot open to anything
arach/dungo
gores/fhr tri res boots
Nef widowmaker bow

Charms should be life/res untill you feel you have enough, then go for ar/life or dmg/ar/life.

The stuff on left left is normal gear with the things on the right as switches for when you think you'll need them.

Try to get at least 30% fcr on your shield to hit that breakpoint with only the shield. With arach on you'll hit 48 which has been good enough so far. You fhr will be at 86 from shield/helm already.

For skills 20 zeal/fant/sacrifice, 1 holy freeze/salvation, 1 holy shield, get 10 into fire and light res for a natural 80 res with the auras off (helps ALOT) and 85 when they are on. That will leave you at 9 points left at level 90. You can do whatever you want with those.

Thx this 1 helped me the most, i think ill be able to own other classes with enigma especially, since if i can tele then caster spels will be hard to hit me

Its great that you want to do your own thing. You will have an eye opening experience in most duels, but half the fun of dueling is learning other ways to fight. Zealers can be versatile if they can fall back on smite and charge. Zealers with optimal gear can be more expensive than smiters however. Anyways, have a great time!
