Ok, tried searching some and checking it out by myself with not much luck.

I read somewhere that arreat summits ilvls/suffix levels isn't perfect but that doesn't help anyways since I'm not sure how to combine pre + suffix for the final level of the item.

Ok, hope I'm making myself somewhat clear..

1. As above, how do you calculate the level of a charm with a specific pre and suffix?
2. Where can I find a link / site with the correct numbers if arreat is wrong?

One of the charms I have in mind is a "Serpent's Large Charm of Vita" so some pointers where's the best spot is to find these or find a large charm worthy of rerolling would be great. (So basically I just need to know the level of it)

Thanks in advance

The ilvl's 48 (With Vita being the highest modificator). To identify the ilvl of the item required, just look for the mod with the highest alvl (affix lvl). When an item is dropped, it's alvls do not add up or anything. It spawns with a set ilvl, which determines the alvl, not the other way around. Therefore, I'd suggest to look somewhere in Nightmare or in Hell for those (I'd say Lower Kurast superchests, myself).

Thanks for clearing some things up :)

Ah, affixlevel was the word I was looking for. And I'm aware that ilvl is set and alvl differs hence rerolling with one specific charm and not several depending on current affixes. (If it makes any sense)

But seeing as it's level ~42 in NM Great Marsh, woulden't LK be a tad low?
I'll try checking the area-level chart if I can find it and start from there.

Btw, according to AS:
Vita: +26-35 Life - (58)[26-30](74)[31-35) . What's the 74 in the middle and wouldent the 58 be the higher one of the 2(vita/serpent)?

Think I've got the answer but I just want to clear the last things out.

That means that charms at ilvl 58 and higher can get only 26-30 life, but those at 74 can get 26-35 from the same suffix.

Also, all NM GC's can spawn with +skill tree, and that is at least ilvl 50. Wouldn't you think that Act 3 would have a bit higher ilvl than 50?

Doing this search (http://forums.diabloii.net/search.php?searchid=705668) made me doubt what you just said.

Also using this chart (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=218836) you can see that the first spot you meet lvl 50 and higher is in -A3 21 50 80 Great Marsh. It's a bit old but I'm guessing it's still quite accurate.

Am I wrong to say that the ilvl can't be 'much' higher then the level of a monster? (mlvl ~ ilvl)

Woulden't that point to that the best spot to find something with the ilvl you're searching for would be around the spot with the same arealevel/monsterlevel.

(Otherwise woulden't you be able to roll a 'Skiller of 45 Vita' from any charm?)

Back on track: This means that the best spot to find the charm I'm searching for would be in (lvl 74 for best possible chance of getting Vita) Hell Sewers level 1 and Town Cellar level 1. Probably not the best areas out there..

Gah, kinda lost myself somewhere. Sorry about potentially weird conclusions. I'm doing it way harder then it is :)

(Edit: Reread the post, it's just jibberish.. I'll fix it)

I'm sorry for the desinformation. Seems like I didn't know quite as much as I should... Anyway, the best place to search for the large charm you need is not the first place you can find. Generally, the higher, the better. I think, at least.

Usually yes, but the whole point of this was to determine the level of it so I can make those 12k rolls into 10k instead :)

Since the 2 areas above really do suck for anything but finding that specific charm I guess I'll reroll one from a random 85 area instead.

Thanks for the help

Don't forget that unless you use that piece of **** maphack, there is no way you can determine an exact ilvl of a charm. That's why I recommended to search in higher-level areas, where you can be SURE the mods will spawn on the charm regardless of who/what dropped it.

The Arreat Summit's Magic Prefixes and Suffixes pages list affix levels (alvls); an item's alvl is calculated based on its item level (ilvl) and quality level (qlvl). In the case of charms, ilvl is determined by the monster's level (mlvl) from which they dropped; qlvls are fixed at 28 for Small Charms, 14 for Large Charms and 1 for Grand Charms. The formula(e) for calculating alvl can be found on the AS's Crafted Item page: for Large Charms, if ilvl < 92, then alvl = ilvl - 7; if ilvl >= 92, then alvl = ilvl * 2 - 99.

For Large Charms, the highest Serpent's prefix has alvl 49 (+ 30-34 to Mana) and the highest Vita suffix has alvl 74 (+ 31-35 to Life); this means such a Serpent's Large Charm of Vita requires alvl 74+. Solving the previous equation(s) for ilvl, this means you require ilvl 81+ (74 + 7) Large Charms, which can only drop in Hell.

Normally, in Hell mlvl = area level; this means ilvl 81+ Large Charms will only drop from every monster in level 81+ areas (although they could drop from Champions in level 79+ areas, and Unique monsters and their minions in level 78+ areas), like those listed below for Acts I and II:

Act 1
81 The Hole Level 2; The Moo Moo Farm
83 The Crypt; The Underground Passage Level 2
85 The Mausoleum; The Pit Levels 1-2

Act II
81 Halls of the Dead Level 2
82 Halls of the Dead Level 3; Claw Viper Temple Level 1
83 Claw Viper Temple Level 2
84 Maggot Lair Levels 1-2
85 Maggot Lair Level 3; Ancient Tunnels

Beyond this point, it's easier to list the areas where suitable charms could not drop from every monster:

Act III
79 Spider Forest; Arachnid Lair; Spider Cavern
80 Great Marsh; Flayer Jungle; Swampy Pit Level 1; Lower Kurast

Act V
80 Bloody Foothills

Also, all NM GC's can spawn with +skill tree, and that is at least ilvl 50.
Since Grand Charms are qlvl 1, alvl = ilvl; + to skill tree prefixes require alvl 50+, and every area from Act III Nightmare onwards is level 50+ (excluding the Spider Forest, which is level 49).
