Need Clarifications

I've recently played the secret cow level; Single Player, v1.00 Classic. But the thing is, how come could I enter the cow level thrice on the same difficulty level (Normal)? And I've killed the Cow King thrice. I've used the normal method going there, wirt's leg + tome of town portal with the help of the horadric cube.

I've always thought that you could only enter the cow level once per difficulty unless you join another one's game. I'm just new in classic, so please bear with me. I just need some clarifications on this...

This might be better asked in the Single Player forum, since they have a lot more experience with Single Player and probably also with 1.0
I do not remember much of 1.0, I think I started playing a few patches after it.
I'm guessing the cow quest works differently in 1.0 though.
They probably made the quest easier to complete(nerfed) in later versions due to the vast amounts of xp which was being milked there.

So I have no idea what the 'rules' are for completing(in the current version you cannot open the portal after you complete the quest) the cow quest are in 1.0
I can only speculate.
Perhaps you did complete the cow quest, but the penalty of not being able to open anymore just wasn't there yet in 1.0

I do remember in very early versions that you could still make a Cow Level game even after killing the King. And all this talk of very early versions is going to make me install from my original disks: 1.03. Nostalgia ftw :D
