View Full Version : Lightning skills question.
Lets max the 3 "strike" lightning skills, namely "Power strike", "Charged strike" and "Lightning strike".
Now lets look at the skill descriptions of them:
-Power strike: adds lightning damage to attacks with
javelin and spear class weapons
-Charged strike: adds lightning damage to javelin and spear class weapons
and releases charged bolts upon impact
-Lightning strike: adds lightning damage to javelin and spear class weapons
and releases chain lightning upon impact
They all have the same description in common but the thing is that none specify attacks have to be ranged, thus is it wrong of me to come to the conclusion that i could equip myself with a spear and use these attacks in a melee fashion?
They are all close combat skills, do not work with throw (except if you use the farcast glitch).

they will work in melee with javelins or spears. It's just pretty stupid to use a spear because
-low ar means the physical component isn't going to hit much, so there's not much benefit from having a higher damage weapon
-no shield
-less damage possible
-zon spears have worse base speed than zon javs
Actually, spears are just about the most useless weapon type in the game, excluding throwing potions ofc. Their only redeeming feature is being useable by a2 mercs.

Well, spears definitely wins against javs in the range department.
Theoretically, Arioc's seem to be the optimum spear for the PS/CS/LS route with max +4skills, ITD (solves AR issues but not for bosses), -10WSM (same as javs) and with longer reach. Lack of blocking may be overcome with longer range and with proper decoy/valk/merc placing. Resists may suffer though since shields are usually major contributors for the resists department.

you should clarify that you mean melee range. because a thrown jav goes a hellofa lot further than a spear can poke.

I thought that went without saying. You cannot use PS/CS/LS while throwing.

well... you can FC all of those attacks actually.

not with a spear you cant.
You cannot FC anything with a spear. FC works by switching between a throwing and melee skill quickly. Obviously there are no spear throwing skills.

IMO, short spears should be considered as spear type weapons and these could be thrown. I mean how could a short "spear" not be a spear? It's like calling a Chihuahua (smallest dog) a cat for not making the size requirement.
