View Full Version : barb questions
I want to create Single Player/Open realm WW barb.
He must be good PvM, fast MF-er(not fully dedicated to MF obviously), he must survive, must be able to solo go through normal/nm/hell. I want to have "good" chance while gambling.
I have the following questions:
1.Which Diablo2 classic version is best for this build?
2.Should I use Spears or Maces? Dual wield barb maybe?I obviously don't want a shield.
3.I want to whirl in the biggest and toughest crowd on Hell and still to be able to leech enough HP :)
4.Are there any items with charges of teleport I can use? And what is the repair price afterwards?
5.I'll look for guides and good builds, but since it's single player, can you point me to some WW barb guides from a scratch?
If the above requirements are not feasible to any Diablo2 classic version or build, can you suggest some similar builds?
Any help is welcome

I'm thinking that there's a forum here that's devoted to the different nuances of each version. That being said, I personally do not recall which version it was that the dreaded IM wasn't as much of an issue as it currently is.
If you intend for this to be a classic build (surmised by the location of your post) then no - there are no items in classic that will allow for teleport of other classes - it's purely a sorc skill tree.
I found single player/open to be completely unrewarding. I admit to farting around with a tool that got a member here banned, and thus I shan't mention it by name.
But, I have a single player/open sorc, that's level 97, with over 40k life after she BO's, with lvl 99 skills on the entire sorc tree, and something silly like 90k Defense.
she can kill anything in the game with no problem - or simply enchant a melee merc with a lvl 99 enchant...
mfing in single player, and/or open is pointless in my opinion - sure it's neat to see what's possible but you'll never be able to trade/sell, and will have to resort to other applications to mule/farm items over from the main character to others for the most part.

I'd probably just turn on "/players 8" and start hacking away with a barb in the current version of Diablo.
Once you get to BO, put a point in that every level until you have it maxed.
Once you get to WW, put a point in that every level until you have it maxed.
You will have to wait with mastery, since you have yet to find your end level weapon.
Might aswel start putting points into "Find Item" after you maxed BO and WW.
Ideally, you'd eventually be using a Martel de Fer of some kind, so keep that 169 str in mind.
first level, 5 points in str, second level, 5 points in vit and then I'd probably just alternate between the two.
You will want to get a form of AR per level:
- best would be Angelic ring(s) and another angelic item(2 other angelic item types would be better cause then you get 50%MF per ring).
- another option would be Sigons helm and another sigons item.
- a good third option would be hsarus boots with another item of the hsarus set.
- a fourth option is bezerkers helm with another item of the same set.
Once you find a type 2(exceptional) weapon with at least 150% enhanced damage, you could consider using that as your final weapon and fill your mastery for that weapon.
Look trough MF and GF barb guides to see what would be good places to raid.
If you would, post here every now and then to let us know how it goes.
I just want to make sure that WW won't be affected by weapon's speed and will hit fast as hell! Also I want to take advantage of old patches that are best for MF/gamble/crafting/recepies. As I will play singe player only, I will use gamble/Andy runs as much as possible.

as far as I can recall, in classic WW has not ever been affected by weapon speed.
for a WW barb, the usual only problem in classic that prevents one from being the "ultimate pvm life source" is the dreaded Iron Maiden curse in the Chaos Sanctuary.
Going with a simple angellics build with bsnap, or high ED mart will be the way to go.
I still have to ponder the ultimate goal of the task however, if only 'cause you discussed the open realm issue in the original post... *shrug*
What patch you play is very important; I recommend the single player forum for more information on this subject. There's a lot of information about 1.07 in particular (you mention taking advantage of old patches - 1.07 boasts some uniques with far superior stats than todays and eths found in 1.07 once taken forward to recent versions get an inherent extra +50% to base max damage). ww has been nerfed in basically every patch, it's probably strongest in 1.0 (iirc 1.03 is default unless you have a copy of diablo bought before lod came out... SP forum for more info on this stuff). Perhaps the days when you could get enough leech to ignore IM would be the same days the blood golem+IM trick worked. If you have lod installed your version will be 1.07, before 1.07 gambling is easily the best you can gamble uniques easily and every unique ring that drops is a soj as long as you have manald anda nagel in your stash/inventory. No charges of any type in classic. In classic your best bet is 1 big slow weapon for pvm, half as much repairing as 2x 1 handers that each do 1/2 the damage (no indestructible weapons and 2 handers actually do more than double 1 handers).
Sorry for jumbled post :drunk:

Thanks Phool. Probably I am going for 1.0. I am able to get this version :)
Anyways I was thinking to start with sorc, since she uses spells not brute force from weapons to kill. After I find some good gear will build my WW barb :)
I am going to ask in the SP forum thou.
Back in 1.0 I'm told necros are totally overpowered (due to corpse explosion mostly which is cheaper, bigger and damage scales with player #) so would probably be a good first char until you can get a decent weapon. Nice thing about starting in 1.0 is you can keep on taking your chars forward and to lod (and they still be should be powerful in future versions, until 1.10 when synergies were introduced mostly)

Id say 1.00
but if you plan to play 1.00, perhaps make a jump barb
I think everyone used lances then (or did they start dropping in 1.02? or something)
Good News everyone!
I've managed to find D2C 1.00 and installed it. Now I have lvl6 cold Sorc.
I'll post from time to time about my experience in this D2C version.

Get yourself some "fastest cast rate" items and try the (currently) time-delayed spells like Orb and Hydra. I do that every now and then when I re-install for whatever reason.
