How much are looks worth?

I recently made the following trade:

Loath Ward: Big shield, black with a red rim; very attractive.
- 140 defense
- 46% block, 15% fast block
- 20% resist all
- 75% shorter poison duration

For:

Little round purple shield, really ugly.
- 40 defense
- 40% block, 15% fast block
- 19% fire, cold, lightning
- 38% poison
- half freeze

And:

Executioner's sword with about 130 1h damage (for my frenzy barb)



Who got the better end of the bargain? Looking at stats alone, it seems fairly even, but my shield looked so much better. How much does that matter in trading?

And how much was my shield really worth, for those who know these things?

Depends completely on the individual you are trading with. I prefer function over form, but many are very much concerned about how sexy an item is.

to certain individuals it's all about function AND looks.

example. I've posted a couple of times about the 30/20 priz 20 blue grim shield, with 12 dtm, and -30 req I found. I traded it for 3 sojs, plus a pruby socketed bplate that was probably in all honesty worth less than a soj - so call the trade a 3 1/2 soj shield.

had that same shield been purple, with the exact same mods I'm not so certain I could have gotten much more than a single soj for it.

with respect to your specific trade - hard to say who got the better deal per se' - not really comparing purely apples to apples. the truest test is to compare items of like stats/type with different colors.

in no short order you'll find that people are attracted to the really rare colors that also have "gg" mods.

I myself am happy to trade away the "gg" color'ed items and use a purple priz bone with seriously stacked resists and pocket the extra sojs... *Shrug*
