Connection Interrupted Messages

I seem to be getting these much more frequently than what I would presume to be normal. It is my understanding that such intervention is caused by a sudden spike in lag or ping.

Can I perhaps reduce the likelihood of these messages if I lower the graphical settings of Diablo II? Or is there any other method(s) in skirting such messages?

Some seem completely random, as in a few instances I have entered the Cow level, and within seconds, received such a message.

It's becoming quite frustrating, to be perfectly honest, and coupled with the accursed realm downs, I think I may once more return to exclusively playing Single Player.

This tends to happen with certain spells and skills. For example, spamming Rabies in the cow level will get you dropped faster than a poop popsicle.

Basically, if there are too many things going on in a game you will get dropped. Whether it's from going toe-to-toe with Oblivion Knights in the CS with multiple players/torches/auras/spells or running the Ubers with multiple spellcasters.

I've heard that it's dupe prevention, which seems realistic, though it's a less than sensible solution for the majority of players.
