View Full Version : hammerdin Cookiecutter build help

i realize this is "the" cookie cutter build. but finding a guide (that is 1.10 or higher) has been hard for me.

i guess i will ask a few questions and hopefully i can come up with a decent starter build guide.

my goal is a char that can easly survive in hell and has a semi easy time of killing things.



i know the basics:

20 Blessed hammer
20 Blessed aim (synergy)
20 Vigor (synergy)

Pre-reqs
1 prayer
1 cleansing
1 defiance
1 Might
1 Holy bolt


Thats where the typical hammerdin build ends. I would assume for max damage you would want to put:

20 concentration.


That is 85 points total:

with baal runs you can easly get up to lvl 90

That gives us:

90 skill points from levels
12 Skill points from quests

for a grand total of 102 total points that can be used

17 points in which i can use in other skills... this is where i need help.

i am thinking

1 resist fire
1 resist cold
1 resist Light
1 smite
1 charge
12 Holy shield.



i will go over the gear that i am planning on using 1st (please help me decide!!!)

Helm.
im not sure what is going to be better, the plus skills and damage reduction, or the higher resistances.

Harlequin Crest: it gives +2 skills, 10% damage reduction and a bunch of life
Veil of Steel: +50 Resists and almost 400 defence


Boots:

War Travelers: for the mf bonus.

Infernostride, for the 10max fire resist.


shield:
I'm not sure what would be better +skills and resists, or the redemption aura, which would help /w mana and life.

Phoenix monarch: the 11-13 redemption aura, the max light and fire resists are reall nice

Herald of zakarum: +skills, +50% resistances.


Armor:
Chains of honor, +65 resists, +skills


Belt
Thundergod's Vigor: +20 light asorb 10 max light resist

Arachnid mesh: +1 Skills %20 FCR

Rings:

2x SOJ,
with 1x natures peace for switch (dkey runnin)


Ammy:
seraph's: for the +skills +def auras

mara's: for the +skills and resitances.


For weapon i was thinking:

Heart of the Oak, for the resists and +3 skills



this is all end game gear i am looking for. I am not worried about Faster Cast rates, as this is a PvM build only.

my goal is max defense, what would i need to invest in dex for max block on the shields i am looking at?

Get rid of COH, and get enigma. You won't be needing the +65 resist, they both have +2 all skill, and you will be needing the teleport ability, or you will be playing a very tedious character. Plus you get a big str boost and damage reduction and MF, etc.

And you should be worried about FCR, to some extent. Namely, getting 75% at the minimum. Less than that is painfully slow. Whether or not it is worth going all the way and getting a full 125% FCR for the fastest possible cast is subject to debate, but most everyone will agree that 75% is the minimum, even for pvm. You didn't mention gloves, so magefists would allow you to hit 80% with the arachnid mesh. If you want to use T-gods and maintain 75 fcr, you'll have to go with fcr jewelry or a spirit shield.

so after a few responses between here and some other fourms here is what i came up with:


Replace Phoenix shield for spirit shield 25-30 FCR

Add Magefist +20 FCR

Arachnid mesh +20 fcr

and add the +40 fcr for hoto, that would get me 105-115 FCR

Either stay on the 75%(80) or get the next breakpoint 125%. 124% fcr teleports as fast as 75% since you don't reach the next breakpoint (125) with 124.

105-115 fcr is waste.

Spirit can go up to 35%, but even then you won't hit 125 without some more substitutions. A crafted +2 paladin/10 fcr amulet would probably be ideal. But unless you get a perfect roll on both your spirit and amulet's fcr, you'd still need a 10 fcr ring of some sort.

Well since your gear is intersting but it would still work I will post the gear that pretty much every h'din uses.

75%fcr
Shako
Hoto
Maras
Hoz
Trangs/Magefists
War Travs
Enigma
Arachs
2x soj

125%fcr
Shako
Hoto
Maras
35% spirit with 40+all resists (Sacred Targe or Sacred Rondache preferably)
Trangs/Magefists
War Travs
Enigma
Arachs
1x soj
1x 10%fcr ring with other good moods like str or dex.


I also think that 1 point in redemption is a must because after +skills it will be a level 15+ which you can hotkey to restore mana/life very fast.

Merc wears
Insight
Fort/Stone/(Insert high def armor here)
Vamp Gaze/Andys/(Insert high def Life Leach helm here)

I think the resist cold/fire/light are kinda useless you won't find yourself using them very often.

thanks for the input... now i have to do a million countess / lower kurast runs and save up... in the mean time, this is the gear i have (with the exception of the spirit's, but i have the runes to make them)
