This time DII crashed, sorry. I thought I at least had the crashes fixed, but I guess I need more time fixing. I think I'll do a clean system install soon. Game is going back up though. Same IP as above.

I probably won't be hosting/mping for a day or two. I really want to get those occasional crashes fixed first, hppefully a clean system install will do the trick.Eek, sounds drastic. If it's just D2 crashing, I'd reinstall that first, and see if it resolves the problem. Don't forget to back up your characters and ATMA stashes first though.

If you're talking a reinstall of Windows, I have a suggestion. Grab yourself a copy of Acronis TrueImage, Norton (Symantec) Ghost, or some other disk-imaging software. Then you can make a clean install of Windows, install the software you use regularly (stuff like D2, Firefox, Winamp, etc), and then image your system (the backup image can be stored on another drive or partition, or CD/DVD media). Then if you ever need to reinstall, you can just restore from the backup. It's a hell of a lot faster (about half an hour, depending on the image size). As long as you keep your pictures, videos, music, and other data files separate, the image size shouldn't be too large (it'll probably fit on a single DVD-5). It also avoids all the setup prompts that the Windows installation makes you go through. Side benefit: you can migrate to a new hard drive with ease, should you decide to upgrade, or should your current one die.

Having said all that, if your problems are restricted to hosting, have you considered it might be your ISP? You can check the connection to your router, and if the router is up but your WAN connection is down, that's a sign that your ISP is on the fritz, or your girlfriend has unplugged the cable modem to plug in her hair dryer. ;)

Thanks for the advise pharaoh! Fortunately I no longer need it because I finally decided to get myself some imaging software (Acronis TI) about 6 months ago so doing a clean system install won't be much of a problem. And it was just about time for a clean install so rather than spending time troubleshooting I decided on the clean install and spending a day cleaning up my other drive which is one of those things I've been putting off for about a year. I burned lots of stuff today, made the needed backups and did some other chores while my PC was busy. Tomorrow I do a clean install and then I should be good to go for months. :grin:

Though I didn't have frequent problems with DII I did have several different ones over the last month, including a couple of DII crashes, a couple of full system crashes while playing DII, a lost connection or two while mping and the occasional inability to host a new game after I'd hosted many the previous hours (solved by restarting DII). Tough to pinpoint a cause and another reason for me to just go for a clean system install.

Hell Baal runs finished. My lightsorc went from 87 to 89. Thanks to Justa, Juicy C, DaveW and IfGod for joining.

I had a fabulous drop (http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/4549/screenshot001ui4.jpg) though it turned out to be "but" a Horizon's and a Dwarf Star. But to even see a gold scourge and a gold ring in a single drop from Baal...

And IIRC it was Juicy Cheese that had Baal drop a Tal's Armor! Congrats and enjoy! :thumbsup:

If you're up to level 40, I can rush you to Hell Baal. I can usually jump on around 10 PM MST.
