View Full Version : How does weapon block work?
Yeh, so I've never really played sins, and I was wondering how weapon block works. I've heard that it doesn't work when ur running/walking, etc. Can someone give me some insight on this? Also, how does CoS work in PVP? Is it advisable to use it vs super def chars to cut down their def, while boosting urs?

Ish why people use dflight or enigma
I believe it blocks all attacks/spells while having the consequence of having to use two claws (Less resist and whatever) and not work when running
I don't find cloak of shadows to boost your own def to be useful, only lowering theirs
weapon block blocks all attacks apart from area of effect spells, such as firewall or the fire of meteor etc.
it only works while standing still or attacking, this includes teleport and whirlwind. as soon as you run or walk, it drops to 0%.
the block animation always takes 5frames. you can not shorten this animation.
the %chance to block with weapon block is only determined by the skill level of weapon block.
basically more than 60% is a waste because of heavy deminishing returns.

mmm great thing about it is being able to block Hammers. Albeit a little unreliable, but still a nice touch.
Since CoS is a prerequisite for Mind Blast, you're going to have it one way or another. Keep it on a hotkey, and if you've got a free half-second to spare, throw it up and enjoy the small bonus that ensues. It'll annoy some people, and with any luck who knows it might even throw them off their game (visual confusion, maybe?) and make them slip up.

Often when somebody casts Cos on me, I run into traps because it is dark so.. I would say it is quite useful

I was told (from these forums) that the weapon block rate and block % were improvable by guardian angel and twitchthroe, and was under the same block rate sins with shields are under.
one of those items had some other tidbit for sins but i forget.
so... which is it :O
block % is not improved, thats for sure. i tested in game. dont know about FBR, but i asume that also is not improved
Weapon Block follows the normal FBR tables.

I remember it using one of the Sx animations, which means it does not follow the standard blocking speed breakpoints.

RTB, are you 100% sure about this? I remember reading in the Assassin Faq that altough ICB% doesn't work with WB (+skills do work up to slvl 26, that is 60% block max), FBR% did work and it followed the normal (shield) FBR tables like Stephan said. Being GA the only item able to improve claw block speed from 5 to 4 frames.
hmm. what if?
I mean. When you're using GA in pvm, you will be much better off by just dodging attacks by running in which case clawblock doesnt work anyway and same counts for pvp.
You wont be tanking most likely anyway =]

In general you are right. Now the thing is i would like to know this for sure and RTB is the right person to make the question. I have for some time now this crazy idea of putting together a tank vs. elemental attacks, a fade-based dual claw (chaos/jade talon) ww sin that whirlwinds most of the time using GA to get high resists and better WB block speed. If FBR doesn't affect WB i can let the jade talon go and get myself a shield.

if you want to tank with whirlwind it does not matter anyway. there is no block animation while wwing.
if you plan on kicking as well it's a different matter.
However, for pvp I'd suggest you use enigma and some other kind of ihgher res gear if you want to lame them, like hot spurs or thundergods or similar :azn:
Well, apparantly the assassin does have a blocking animation when using two claws, and that one is just as long as the regular one. I guess I confused it with D/A/E.

RTB, thank you very much for the info. No biggie, everyone makes a mistake from time to time. You're still the person i rely the most on these forums for correct info about the game.
Moritz, WB does work when WWing, thus having a blocking animation during WW. I'm not into duels so it's ok because i only lame monsters. I'm into selffound Single Player PvM only, and altough i've gathered some nice gear over the years i don't see myself getting an enigma anytime soon
alright then its not so important, but there is no block animation while whirling. try it =]
anyway what I would like to know is whether clawblock can block faster attacks than 5frame while whirling, since there is no ani?!
The animation may take 5 frames, but you are not limited to blocking an attack every 5 frames. In fact, there is no limit to the number of attacks you can block in a single frame. IIRC when you block initially, a timer of 10 frames starts. During those 10 frames, any succesful block does not trigger the blocking animation. This doesn't apply to WW, because that skill is just one continuous uninterrupted animation.

Doh my stupidity, ofc you are right, finnaly i get what you mean.
RTB, thanks for additional clarification.

I've noticed that once you reach slvl 15, the game decides to ignore the skill bonuses from this skill.
Well... at least to a certain extent. (kehehe)
I made the mistake of putting too many points into CB on my lightning trapper, and found that without gear, yes, it made a difference when naked
(although you don't have the claws to block with anyways--haha)...
But when her + to skills were factored in, I had to ask myself how 5 points made virtually NO difference... :duh:
; D
Stupid diminishing returns... and the game being all... game-like.. . hehe
:disappointed:
 Imagine if it were possible to get 75%~! I know it isn't.... but IF (if) it WERE~!
...'Course it would be inbalanced and so on... ; }
yeah basically there's no use going for higher than 60%. otherwise it would be too strong, I find.
thanks RTB for clearing this up
