View Full Version : Editing a thread
Hi guys, ive been trying to do some trading and It will not let me edit my post more than once. Is this normal? I am a member and its not letting me edit my post, am i doing something wrong?
You can edit until one hour from time of posting.
So I have to make a new thread each time that I want to update my old thread?
You can update your thread 6 hours after the last update. You can respond to people who post in your thread with no time limitations though. Just don't have two posts in a row unless there's 6 hours between them.
its not always 6 hours, some forums require 12 hours
your bump must also contain useful info

In the Europe forum it's 12 hours and you must include relevant information, else it's an illegal bump which will lead to the closing of the thread - or worse if it happens repeatedly.
Also, for reference in This forum (Newcomer) and also in Community, the rules as to bumping threads state that bumping of threads can and usually do result in them being closed. Thought as to the nature of said bump, there is a bit of flexibility here. If's it's after an hour and no one has yet to post a reply in that thread and you have something important or useful to that thread, it is usually a good idea to PM the resident mod (me or Sommersky for Newcomer or me and Orphan for Community) and request an edit. If we aren't online an and the the post being added is useful then we will usually let it slide - even though we reserve the right to edit the two posts into one.
However, bumping for the sole purpose of keeping your thread on the first page or simply bumping for any of the following reasons will get the thread locked:
1.Bumping just so that it stays on the first page.
2.Bumping and asking/demanding that someone respond.
3.Bumping in a spammish nature.
4.Creating multiple (double, triple, etc) successive (spam) posts on purpose like on the B.net forums.
We reserve the right to judge each on it's own basis, and if you have a question on why a thread was locked, its better to PM one of the mods assigned to that forum, rather than post another thread asking why one was locked.

The 1 hour editing rule is very troublesome and odd, especially in trade threads. :undecided:

not really, i've recieved a number of complaints on this but nothing much can be done unless its discussed with elly. Guess us mods do have some advantage. Rules are rules though.

Editing old postings would lead to a lot of confusion because the changes might not be noticed and the times of their last change will not be in line with the time of their creation.
However, the issue could be improved, e.g. if the last posting could be edited for an indefinite amount of time and all the posts before cannot be edited at all. However, that's not in the hands of the admins here. Instead you can send an email to the vBulletin developers to suggest that .
