Ive tried this in the community forum because theres NO FREAKING TECH HELP FORUM, and the mods blasted me for being new, so ill try it here.

When I try to install the expansion, Nothing.

My task manager says that the D2l_install.exe is running but nothing is happening. Ive restarted, and much more.

Id really like to get back into expansion, but Ive pretty much given up home and deleted all my chars, and I was gonna try deleting the file folder where the game is stored and go in again.

Wondering if i could get some assistance.

Thanks in advance, Dime

1) Bumping your thread one hour after it was posted was what upset the Mods in Community. They told you that.

2) There is a lot of knowledge here but we don't all work on the same timezone, so sometimes it takes a while for the person who can help to read your thread.

3) You were asked
We need more info to help - what have you tried and not tried? is the disk even readable if you try to explore it? have you run the setup rather than relying on autorun, Cleaned off the disk etc.

You could try replying to that request for information.

4) This is the best D2 forum I've found for knowledge and courtesy. If you show some of the latter you will receive the former.

Copy your save game folder somewhere else; you haven't specified if you're playing on the Realms or SP, but just move that folder elsewhere.

Presumably you have an original installation of D2 that you are trying to upgrade to LoD? If not, have you tried re-installing both parts from scratch?

Are you using your original CDs and not back ups?

Good points, especially on the 4th Thy. That's gonna go in the sig.

As I posted in the other thread: try to update Classic first before you upgrade with the Expansion, that might help.

if your using xp or vista, make sure your user acct is logged in as an administrator

limited accts on xp are known to cause problems

List of Things I've Done

Restarted

Re-Installed Diablo 2 Original

Tried running from Disc

Tried running disc on both accounts (both are admin)

Cleaned Disc (disc has barely a buff on it)

Ran it from both drives (CD-RW and DVD)

Re-Installed Diablo II into a clean Diablo II folder (deleted the original)

Opened Disc and tried running INSTALL.EXE and SETUP.EXE

Tried using Run program

Tried running the installer through task manager

And probably some other stuff I cant remember.

And it cant be the CD Drive because it installed Diablo 2 just fine n dandy, plus the Expansion disc is practically brand new besides a small buff on the edge.

ps. Sorry about the hostility guys, this just kinda annoyed me, i just got a little upset. Plus im sick (flu :sad2: ) so sorry if i got anyone upset.

thanks

Forgive me if I'm being dim here, but am I correct in thinking that your Original D2 will install and run. But when you come to patch to LoD, it all goes horribly wrong?

sorry for not responding. I just got SOCOM 3 and was on a killing spree for the last two weeks :)

But no, Ive installed the D2 Standard patch, nothing wrong there, its just when i put the Expansion Disc in, nothing happens. I hear the disc start to rev up and then it just cuts off, It cant be the driver since, pardon my logic, it can install D2 Standard, why cant it install something with the same basic structure and its even a smaller filesize?

Can't fault your logic. Dodgy disk then. That little scratch on the edge may well be enough to bork it.

Eh....might have to go and buy another disc....scratches suck

Seems odd though, a small scratch like that and yet some of my other discs, not proudly saying, are quite a bit scratched, and play fine.

Must be my luck.

Small question by the way, you said something about backup discs, does that mean copy the files from the CD and put it in another?

If so, how.

thanks in advance,
