Hi

I see that there alot of people whit alot of nice items, like rare perfect runeswords and lots of other perfect items. And i also see alot of lvl 1 charecters called fgfa3412ff or something spamming games.

So where does the average diablo 2 hero get his items from? found or traded, or bought in the net?

Mostly traded of course. Legitness of some of the items can be doubted, but if a person was to play the game, he would have to get legit items to make sure his stuff doesnt poof after exiting a game.
Those spamming bstrds are just bots who are promoting a website where d2 items are sold for real money.

My gear as well is 100% legit (except for that my OHM was traded, but that was on these forums). It just takes a little dedication (read: lots of time) and decent knowledge of the game and trade values. Farming hell meph for his quest drops is one easy way to get nice tradeables. Keyrunning (and the aquiring of unid torches) is another. Forge rushing a third, crafting a fourth. All of the above will yield profit. Crafting takes lots of tries, but pays off HUGE when you get something godly. Forge rushing and torch hunting is pretty steady, but won't give as good profit. Hell meph takes some luck, but is the easiest to get items from. He can't drop the very best stuff, but the second best is very very easy to get.

Well, kinda the reason why i asked is

Many of the high runes (or HRs) are Many of the high runes (or HRs) are player-generated, or duped. This means that they aren’t legit. It also means that there is a chance that they will simply disappear from your inventory, or in some cases, from your runeword entirely. There is no way to tell whether a particular rune is a dupe, however, and you really have little choice but to take your chances with them. People will offer many solutions to rune ‘poofing’, but I have not seen any effective methods of making these items ‘permanent’, nor do I see the point in doing so, as they will eventually disappear anyway. It’s just one of those things we have to live with on Bnet. It’s up to you whether or not you want to deal in HRs.

Just for reference, it has been recently noted that the majority of all high runes, Ists, and now, even Ums are duped. Be careful, and try not to let this ruin your enjoyment of the game.

And what is player-generated?

player-generated is just the silk-glove word for "hacked", "duped", "copied" or "cheated" items. Just as someone I know used the phrase "inconvenient placement of penis" instead of the word "rape".

all of my gear is legit. i do not (and never have, never will) "perm" my characters between games.

all my gear has been self-found (or in the case of high-runes: self-cubed), traded for or given to me by friends.

there are, unfortunately, a lot of people who will purchase itamz for $$$.

if your looking to generate some d2 e-wealth, here are some suggestions on how to do it quickly (well, reasonably quickly).

1: key-runs. d-keys especially seem to hold their value, so build a Nihlthak walloper and go farm him (keep any GC's he drops for re-rolling, see #2)

2: charm trading. a high-end legit charm can be worth muchos. re-roll hell baal/nihlathak/diablo grand charms (3pgems + charm in cube) until you get something tradeable (even a plain lit-skiller is where you stop re-rolling any given charm). trade off stuff for pgems, use those to re-roll with.

3: goldfinding. build a goldfind character (barb or summon neccy, both work well), run Travincal council for mass gold (i get an average of ~350k/run). use this gold to gamble rings & circlets (and maybe ammy's too. i do Blade Talons as well). gamble a godly circlet, congrats your rich.

4: RECOGNISE WHEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING WORTHWHILE!!! this is especially true in the case of items for Low Level Duelling (LLD, level requirement of <=30). dedicated LLD'ers have been known to pay a FORTUNE for a single godly lld item. some basic examples are: 15 life sc's, +9max jewels (lvl 8 req), 15max jewels (lvl18 req), 20 max jewels (lvl18 req), +2(useful tree)/20fcr circlets, a 3os/10fhr hat. find a 15max/-15%requirements jewel and you are RICH once you find a buyer.

one LLD'er i know traded a COMPLETE HLD lit-sorc setup (griffons, ormus, 9x plain gc's, the WORKS) for a single 3max/20ar/15 life sc. LLD'ers will often overpay for seriously good lld gear.

so in fact, this last one is possibly the most important. top-end lld gear can be harder to get than top-end hld gear.

don't let a godly item burn a hole in your pocket. don't look to trade it off asap. hang onto it until you find someone who really values what you have.

Keyrunning (and the aquiring of unid torches) is another.

this week I have begun some keyrun with lvl 91 zeal pally, in 20 Countess runs and 30 Nil runs I have found, between other things:

Gheed's fortune (140% extragold, 36% MF)

Arkaine's Valor (168% ED, +1 skill, -15 Dam)

and some fun runes dropped by cont..

personally i have found 3 HRs so far this ladder, and my friend has found 2. I have a hammerdin with 11k dmg (more than enough). And as for the topics above: running keys is, IMO, a great way to get wealthy. I have never purchased anything for IRL money personally,

BUT: i dont think that people that do are lame. If they want to spend their time doing other things, and once in a while play a little LOD, why not buy the stuff for a few $$$? I mean, to get superwealthy, you would have to play A LOT (like some people do). I you have a job, you could work like two or so hours and get good gear, vs playing at least 10 times as long.

(then, ofc, there is the question where the guys on those sites get their items from...)

I like playing the game, but if im in te future would ike to restart in a new ladder season or whatever, maybe ill take the shortcut.

peace

Yea, but its really annoying seeing somebody whose played like 3 hours of diablo being richer than oneself, whose played hundreds of times longer than that.

If u really want to be godly, i mean really, it can be done..

Build up a network of rich people, get a few (1/2/3, more isnt neccesary but welcome) trustable friends. First u get a little fortune of MFing only. You can do this with a Tal Rasha setbased sorc. If u set up the trades smart, the HRs will be coming in like crazy. Its all about profit. All about the economy. U must know all the prices on any item, what sells good and what not. U must know every character. Played them, and know what setup is best, and with that, what items are best for that setup. This is very, very important. U must know what items are being used by lld'ers (why a 15life sc is more valuable than a 16 life sc) Or mld'ers (30ed% jewel>31/35ed% ones)/Goldfine items (why a warcry skiller with 40%goldfind has a minimum value of 600% more of a clean WC skiller)/ know why a 14max/20ed/-15req jewel for lvl 9 is the shiet and will get u many, many HRs/ etcetc.. U have to know all items/all builds and all characters to have full knowlege of all items in the game. Most people will be suprised of the real value of some items. They just throw away that ugly diadem with 30fr/w, which happen to have 3sox.

U can invest into more MF%. Or invest in goldfind-gambling/crafting/rerolling. Be diverse, be in demand. Be on all popular tradeforums. Have a clonehunter ready for action. When ur rich, u dont even have to be in the field anymore (mfing/ etc), just trade a lot. Trade/profit/trade/profit/invest/trade/profit/etc

Check out all interesting threads. Why is this particular item in demand at that time, and why? Research a lot. find out who are imporant and rich players. Be friendly and trustable to them, so they want to do business with u. Have a good stock of items, so u can trade fast and smooth. All to make a positive name.

Owyeah another important thing: give up ur social life

The biggest thing is knowing what is good and how much an item is/could/should be worth.

Luck also plays a fairly large role in it, granted, the more you play, the less luck becomes a factor.

The best items I have I've found from hell trav/meph. I find them the easiest to run, and I take the gold they drop and gamble with that. I've gambled a few nice ammys, among other things.

Finding good deals also helps a lot, but honestly, finding a GG rare is pure luck, so don't feel down if you don't have any; 95% of the ones I own are traded for.

I think the best way to get rich is simply from trading. Buy low and sell high is what they all say. Easier said than done, though. I myself do not have the patience.

I second that but I usually end up buying high and selling low instead since I don't want to stick around for that little extra.

I do however really get pissed of that a friend of mine, doing similar runs to me, is netting at the very least 1 Pul per hour while mfing and I will max out at some pgems... if I feel lucky.

Makes it really quite hard to tell yourself that it all comes down to hard work when in reality luck is the larger factor.
