anyone have this happen?

Anyone else have really bad trouble getting back to their corpse after dying? I have a level 68 fishymancer, and was in the first act of Hell, in the countess dungeon and died.

I'd resurrect my merc, and go get some more skellies and zip back, and would pretty much get killed after 1 one or 2 hits.

I eventually ran out of money resurrecting my merc, and finally just gave up.

Anyone have any good strategy to get your corpse back when it's in a bad area?

Would you spend a bunch of money to buy some armor/equipment just for the trip back?


my fishymancer had raise skellies maxed, SM and CE maxed, but I don't really have any points in any 'offensive' skills yet...

I had setup the game as a 1 person game, so I couldn't have gone and found some high level person to help...

I realize my stuff is gone now, but in reality, I didn't have that great of stuff anyway (I am afterall only in the first act of hell). Any ideas if this happens again?

Would you spend a bunch of money to buy some armor/equipment just for the trip back?Definitely don't do this option. When you leave a game, only one body is saved. The game determines which body to save by summing the vendor sell price of all items on that body. A Wizardspike might only be worth 3K, but a plain armor bought from a vendor (or picked up) might be worth 50K.

Since the game does save one body, if it's unsafe to retrieve your body, just leave and rejoin. Your body will be next to you in town. The only thing you gain by picking up your body is 1/2 the experience you lost for dying. I don't know if that's worth dying again.

Well, I have two bits of advice: first, getting to your corpse is a simple matter if you've bothered to kill every monster on your way. Then it'll only be whether you can survive the monsters that killed you in the first place, but with some caution this shouldn't be that bad. This is why I don't like to tele: if I get killed in a bad spot, I have little hope of getting back to my body while naked.

Second, never ever buy anything from the vendors for the trip back. If you do and you die again, then even leaving the game may not get your gear back. If you leave the game and either rejoin or join another game, your corpse will be in town with all your stuff. If you re-equipped yourself and died a second time, only the most expensive gear you had will be spared.

EDIT: actually you gain 3/4 of the lost exp. Depending on your level, this may be significant. If you were kicked back to the minimum exp for your level, you can keep running back, naked, hoping to get your body - all it will cost you is gold from your stash as you die a second time, and on higher levels the exp is far more valuable.

If you are farther along toward the next level, then the risk may not be worth it. If you die three times while trying to regain your first corpse, you win nothing. If you can do it with less deaths, you win some. If you die more times, you lose more.

If you quit a game without getting your corpse, it will appear in town in the next game (or the same one if you quit/rejoin).

However, it will only save one corpse- The one with the most expensive gear (IN GOLD if it were sold to NPCs. Actual worth to players is irrelevant). Only equip more items to get your body back if you are absolutely sure you can.


As for getting corpses back, AI-affecting skills can be useful here. If there aren't any bosses/champions near your body, just cast Terror or Dim Vision and run.
