View Full Version : d2 run error :(
hey, I was on d2, and then all of a sudden on day i get this message.
Error 25:A critical error has occured while intializing Direct3D
I realize this is soem sort of driver problem. I did run on dxdiag or whatever and I did the directdraw test....and it said my direct3D is not funtionally available..... what can i do here ????
try restarting your computer, or close any other directx/ddraw/d3d/opengl apps that might be running
xp doesnt handle multiple ddraw/d3d windows at the same time very well
if dxdiag still gives errors try uninstalling and reinstalling your video card drivers
Have restarted computer many times, and closed other direct3D apps ....still did not work, I think i night neet to unistall/reinstall my dirvers but i have no idea how to do that, and i cannot contact my manufacturer becuz my computer isnt store bought type of thing.
im stuck in a rut D:
check your device manager to see what video card you use
right click on my computer -> manage -> device manager
[+] for display adaptors
if its nvidia go to nvidia.com
if its ati go to ati.com
others are intel, s3 ect..
uhhhh.... i dont have a display adapter section in my list in display manager...
what can i do ? :(
note: sometimes i can run d2 with no error, and when i have no error i noticed I have a diasplay adapter section....other times when i have this error and cant lauch d2, there is no display adapter thing...maybe this could help someone to figure out my problem >.<
you might need to reinstall windows, or do a system restore
well i recently added a new hard drive. for more space and more ram n such...would restoring effect anything important?
using windows system restore itll be fine (as long as no system files are on the 2nd drive)
if you use the restore disks that came with the computer it might complain
restoring did not work :(
Are you receiving a message saying: (Any error that occurs when starting the game) (PC)
error 1: Diablo II is unable to proceed. Please run D2VidTst and try again.
error 21: A critical error has occurred while initializing windowed mode.
error 22: A critical error has occurred while initializing DirectDraw.
error 23: A critical error has occurred while initializing Glide.
error 24: A critical error has occurred while initializing OpenGL.
error 25: A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct3D.
Steps to solve these problems:
- Rerun the Diablo II Video test program.
- Download and install updated video and sound drivers and the DirectX program. Additional information located on the Driver update information page.
- If problems persist, run the Video Test program and set the video mode to Direct Draw.
Are you receiving a message saying: "Please insert play disc" (when trying to start the game)? (PC)
Many computers have two CD drives, if you have a second drive try running the game with the CD in the second drive.
Step 1
Make sure you have the latest patch installed:
You can find the latest patch information available on the patch page. After you have installed the latest game patch, please reboot your system and try the game again.
Step 2
Use the original CD:
If you are using a backup CD, or a burned CD, try using the original game CD.
If you have a CD emulator program installed, try uninstalling it and using the original game CD.
Step 3
Gateway computer users:
Typically with Gateway computers there are two things that conflict with the game running. The first is if you are using the original OEM drivers for the sound card the game might not start properly because the Game Port Joystick will conflict. The second is a program named The Help Spot, which will also cause the game not to start properly.
Users with the Creative PCI64 should download the latest PCI64 drivers from Creative Labs. If the problem persists then disable your Game Port Joystick.
Disable the Game Port Joystick:
- Right-click on My Computer
- Select Properties
- Click on the Device Manager Tab
- Expand the Sound, Video and Game Controllers branch
- Right click Game Port/Joystick and select Properties
- Mark the checkbox labeled Disable in Active Profile
- Click on OK
Uninstall the program called "HelpSpot" or "The Help Spot":
- Open My Computer
- Open Control Panel
- Click Add/Remove Programs
- Select HelpSpot and choose Uninstall
- If prompted to uninstall the trial version of Oil Change, choose Yes
NOTE: HelpSpot is not always listed in Add/Remove Programs; it can also be found by clicking Start, Programs, Gateway (or Gateway Utilities). In addition, any of the MacAfee Office Suite (i.e., Guard Dog, Guardian, Nuts and Bolts, and Firstaid) can also cause the problem. We suggest removing these also, as well as Cybermedia's Oil Change software.
Step 4
Intel Chipset Users:
To verify if your chipset can be updated by the Intel Application Accelerator, please check out the compatibility page found Here. If you do not know what chipset you have, please check out the Intel Chipset Identification Page. If you have difficulty identifying your chipset or you are unsure about installing this update, please contact your computer manufacturer for assistance.
If you have one of these Intel chipsets, you should download and install the Intel Application Accelerator file by clicking Here. Once the file is installed, try the game again. If it still does not work, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the game before the update takes affect.
Step 5
Software Conflicts:
Some programs have been found to cause conflicts with the game - preventing the computer from correctly reading the game CD.
First try running in a selective startup to prevent any background applications from conflicting with the game. Full instructions on how to run in a selective startup can be found here.
If you still continue to encounter problems, please make sure you have none of the following programs installed:
ZoneAlarmŽ Pro users:
We are aware of a conflict with an older version of the ZoneAlarmŽ Pro software that can cause the programs to not start. Please upgrade or uninstall your ZoneAlarmŽ Pro software and try the game again.
For additional information about ZoneAlarmŽ Pro please visit Zone Labs's website at: http://www.zonelabs.com/services/support.htm.
Kazaa and Kazaa Lite:
These file sharing programs may introduce a conflict with the computer's ability to read the game CD correctly. Removing these programs (and other file sharing programs) has fixed the CD read error for many users. Uninstall Kazza, uninstall Diablo II, reinstall Diablo II, and then patch the game.
Viewpoint Media Player:
We have received reports of the Viewpoint Media Player causing conflicts with the game as well. In order for the game to recognize the CD, please uninstall the Viewpoint Media Player, uninstall Diablo II, reinstall Diablo II, and then patch the game.
Step 6
DMA and Sync data transfer:
Try enabling or disabling the CD-ROM settings for Sync Data Transfer, DMA, and Auto-Insert Notification. For more information on enabling/disabling CD-ROM setting, check our SecuROM Sync Data Transfer page.
Step 7
Real-mode drivers: (Windows 98 / ME users)
Real-mode drivers are 16-bit drivers intended for DOS compatibility.
Since you are trying to run a Windows based application we need the 32-bit driver to be loaded.
Normally the 16-bit drivers are loaded in your config.sys and autoexec.bat files (default location C:\).
By changing the extension of these files to .bak and then rebooting the computer the Real-mode drivers should not be installed and Windows should automatically install the 32-bit drivers.
For more information on disabling real-mode drivers, check our Disable real-mode drivers page.
Step 8
Log in with administrative rights and enable ACPI in the bios: (Windows 2000 users)
Make sure you are logged on with administrative rights and that ACPI is enabled in the BIOS.
Step 9
Check your system for Viruses:
When the game files have been infected by a virus such as the Win.CIH virus or another similar worm program this error may appear.
If you have an anti-virus program installed, verify you have the latest updates from the program creators, installed.
If you do not have an anti-virus program installed or would like more information please visit our Computer Security page.
Step 10
Install the latest firmware update for your CD-ROM drive:
Contact your CD-ROM drive manufacturer to make sure you have the latest firmware update installed.
Step 11
CD-Rom drive letter:
Force the Reserve Drive letter assignment of your CD-ROM to match the current drive letter assignment of your CD-ROM. For more information on how to change the drive letter assignment of the CD-ROM, check our SecuROM Drive Letter.
Step 12
Submit your information:
If the above suggestions did not work, gather system information to help diagnose the problem.
