Character selection hangup

Hey, just reinstalled D2 and LOD and everything was going alright for the most part, I am running it on vista and had to disable a few things on the d2.exe to get it running. I was able to play yesterday afternoon for about an hour or so and logged out when I was done playing. Now, today when I go to play it, i can log into Bnet and get to the character selection but once there if I choose a character the game locks up and after a few seconds boots me back out to the battle.net login screen as if I got kicked off or something.
Anyone ever experience this or know of a quick fix for it?
