View Full Version : Mythos Beta Prize - Fan Fiction Story
As a Mythos beta tester, I recently read the following message in the official mythos forum in a thread created by the owner of MythosArmory.com
The message goes as follows:
"For all of you who are eagerly awaiting your chance at a Mythos Beta invite, and for all of you who have friends that want to join, here is your chance! Mythos Armory is holding a fan fiction contest, and awarding beta invites to the winners (and runner ups)! I have over 50 invites to hand out, so jump on over and check it out at http://www.mythosarmory.com/contest.php
Hope to get a lot of good submissions, and get a lot more people playing in the next few weeks!"
I'm posting this here because I figured Diablo 2 fan fiction writers would like to give it a try.
Another thing I'd like to mention is that currently Mythos is suffering from a poor storyline. I think if any of you writers win the contest and become a beta tester I'm sure Flag ship studios would be more than happy to hear your storyline suggestions in the beta forum.
Thanks for the notice. This does look interesting.
I was put off by this requirement (which will be a HUGE surprise to people who know me):
"Upon submission, authors are agreeing to relinquish ownership of said fan fiction to become sole property of Mythos Armory. Mythos Armory reserves the right to use the submitted text in any way it chooses."
I'm happy to share some of my stuff, but give it away in perpetuity? To be used any way someone else chooses? Phooey on that.
Sent the site owner an e-mail to suggest a bit less possessive requirement. Probably no one else cares.
It isn't much though, He's only asking for about 1000 words. And you are being compensated. And believe me not that many people are sending him entries. So far I've seen only one person confirm that they sent in their essay. So with such a low competition your chance of winning are high.
And most mythos fans have never heard of mythosarmory.com
Everyone has their own take on what is worth what and whether or not they are willing to give up a bit of Y in exchange for emolument X. Nobody's opinion is "right" or "wrong" here.
Luckily, in this case, the point is entirely moot: Talon acknowledged that there wasn't really any overwhelming reason for the "ownership" proviso and has removed it from the contest rules. Wtg, Talon!
For what it is worth, I'd like to encourage people from this forum to enter the contest. Even if you don't want a beta invite yourself, you probably know people who would be interested.
I just sent one off. Let me join with Ted in thanking you, Nebulus, for the heads-up.
It was actually quite enjoyable. The web site has descriptions of the unique weapons. There are quite a few. I browsed through them until an idea struck me. The fact that they are looking for something so short even made the review/proofread/edit part fairly quick and painless. Might even do another.
Ted, (Hi) it reminded me of one of your exercises: short and sweet. Looking forward to reading your entry. Don't be a stranger!
Congrats to Monsieur Morte for finishing in second place!
I did not enter. Had an item description already mostly penned but it apparently did not make it off of my old hard drive. After wasting a ton of time looking for that, I started afresh, but the piece kept expanding and wanting to be a story. Fighting it down to something concise also made it rather flavorless. Then the dog ate my homework and I had to walk twelve miles to school in the snow (uphill both ways), so in the end I left it to better minds and went back to watching tv.
Congrats to Monsieur Morte for finishing in second place! Thank you, O Curmudgeon of the Crooked Cervicals. Your kind words are much appreciated. It's my first writing contest success of any kind so I'm kinda tickled about it.
Of course, it means I won some Mythos beta invites. I can't use them all so if anyone is interested in playing during the beta period just send me a pm with your email address. I've only got a few to give away but I'll be happy to do so on a first come, first serve basis until they're gone.
