Best armor for enigma?

Which is better for a hammerdin.

Archon Plate for max armor/strength ratio, Breast Plate for low maintenance costs.

Depends on your other gear really. I could be way off, but I think DS has a req or 77 str, and AP has 105. Enigma is a huge provider of strength (+60str @ clvl 81). So calculate your heaviest item (probably your shield) and subtract that 60 (or the whatever number based off projected clvl) and then subtract all the strength from your other gear (i.e. torch, anni, ammy, etc.). That final number will tell you how much strength you'll have to put towards your armor's strength req (you can add more with stat points).

Truth is Enigma's defensive bonus (+750-775) isn't based on base defense so AP gives you 1160-1299 for 103 str, DS gives 1111-1243 for 77 str, and MP gives 975-1036 for 55 str. So the differences aren't that huge. I'd say DS is the best bet, but if you're just a few strength from AP, go ahead on go for it.

Id go mage plate with the 55str. when you equip torch and anni you can wear it and not have to put any points into str and all into vit. 48 more vit is 144 more in life bulb base vs Archon. i think more into vit is better then the 200 or so def gained. pallys have better ways to get def.

I know all love they ap, but i i like low str like MP or Dusk.
My hammer dont have a single point in str he use dusk atm

But if had a 20-xx anni an 20-xx torch ill go for the Ap, if not use Dusk or Mage plate.

The low STR requirement is perfect, it looks the same as Archon Plate (style matters!) and isn't ugly like breast plates (basketball with arms & legs), the +DEF from Enigma is static, so ~200 DEF isn't worth bothering over in my opinion, you won't have much DEF anyways that will matter compared to a character focusing on DEF. Plus, mageplate only gets 3 sockets, so find a nice superior one and socket it for a perfect 3 sockets.

This is why you'll see superior 15% ED mage plates going for a Mal rune and higher on our trade forums.
