My lvl 87 Avenger has just hit 800 mana points (and I have a total of 7% mana steal) and I'm starting to think that I don't need that much... Vengeance is currently level 24...what do you guys think, is 800 overkill?

BTW the free charm space would go to +Combat Skills charms.

im assuming that all that mana is coming from charms, not stats!

yeah 800=overkill. 200ish should be fine, unless you have an aversion to pot chugging.

combat skillers would be a much better use of inventory space.

I think 800 mana is exaggeration. Right now I have a level 87 avenger too. I have 400 mana and it's at least enough. If you feel you have way too much mana, you could start one by one leaving your mana increasing items to your stash and go hackin', and see where's the breakpoint that you don't run out of mana during few long battles.

I'm thinkin also leaving one charm to my stash. The reason I have 400 mana is, that my mana leech is just 5%. If I had 10%, I think I could do with just 200 mana. Still I always carry one blue potion in my belt. It just makes it that much easier to deal with mana burning monsters.

I also have fairly low mana steal (7%--not great) which is why I started ammasing as much mana as possible and didn't look back (because I used to run out) Frostburn's help of course! I think I'll take your advice on ditching them 1 by 1 (especially since every free slot will go to combat charms=higher level vengeance=more mana used)

Heya,

If the damage from the combat charms will speed up killing over time, meaning less mana consumption even though it will be done at a higher rate, then do it. But if you reduce your mana load upping your damage and run out of mana often, you may regret that, even with mana leech (which works at like half value in Hell, right? So your 7% isn't actually 7% in Hell).

Personally, I love having like ~500 mana. I don't like to fool with just having enough when Veng costs 10 mana per swing and you're swinging at a fast rate. Sure, 50 swings sounds like a lot, but really, that's only 25 seconds worth of swinging... how many battles do you do that are about half a minute? I know as a Venger, that's most of them so long as it's not one-on-one and alone in a private game. In multiplayer games, you just kill slower against mobs. So to me, having a massive bulb of blue is fantastic. Even with mana leech.

But as you can see, to each their own.

Cheers,

Eh, worse than half penalty. It's something like you only take in a third of what you ought to leech (and this is variable depending on the monsters, drain effectiveness, and %PDR/physical immunity). -_-

It's 50% leech, but you have to figure in the 50% immunity, so it's actually 1/4 of your listed leech as far as I know.

Also, after normal I'm fairly certain you don't leech of the undead.

I'd say you should fairly easily be able to cut 200 mana or so without any negative repercussions.

I'd run the numbers on a skill planner and see what the damage increase would be with combat skillers, with offensive gcs etc.

I know at least on HC USEast Pally Combats are expensive, so I'd tend to lean toward life scs and keep yourself between 500-600 mana

Yeah I cut out 3 mana GC for 3 skillers, mana is now at 569 (damage is of course higher) and I've not noticed any negative repercussions so far, I may leave it there rather than trim anymore though, dipping towards 400-500 would make me a bit nervous :wink3:
