I'm coming back after a long break and was reading a few of the guides. Last time I played I enjoyed playing my zealot, but was thinking maybe I'd get back into the game with a Blessed Hammer based build for MF and PvM.

Is http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=438088 the most current/applicable guide to this build?

If you guys think there's anything else I should be aware of I'm all ears.

Thanks a bunch for your time. Feel free to message me here or in game on East (*rok3).

Heya, welcome back to d2!

That guide as you can tell right from the start is a Smite/hammerdin.
You could make this kind of character but rather prefer you stick with a pure hammerdin.
I take it you have absolutely no gear at all?
Check the items out.
http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/

I'll assume that the spirit runewords end up being 25fcr which is lowest out of 35.
Some great starter gear is
Weapon:Wizardspike/spirit sword
Helmet:Rockstopper/peasant crown
Armor:Vipermagi
Glove:Magefist/trang
Shield:Spirit runeword in a high resist PALADIN shield
Belt:Goldwrap
Rings:x2 nagel rings
Boots:Waterwalk
Amulet:3Combat skills

Would be great if you could get wizardspike over spirit sword because with that, you'll hit 125faster cast rate.

Skill layout
1pre-reqs
20blessed hammer
20concentration
20vigor
20blessed aim
1 in salvation
1 in redemption
rest into holyshield i believe.

Stats:
Strength:If you go with the items i suggest, then you'll need about only 59 strength. May change if you attain a higher strength req paladin shield.
Dext:I would say leave this alone until -V When hammers are maxed and you are now putting points into holy shield, put enough points into dext for max block
Vital:Pump then stop once you maxed hammer and its syns.
Energy:None

Thanks a bunch for the info Daydream.

Can you still gamble for the unique items? I might be able to get a few of the uniques I recognize that way.

You could gamble unique items but the chances are VERY VERY low. I could add alot more "very" but lazy. xD Anymore questions, feel free to ask
