I can't find a good smiter guide in the stickies either!
The guides there are "1 point smiter" which is just a hammerdin who uses smite sometimes.
I think the original poster was looking for a good "pure" smiter guide, I know I still am.
Smiter is aka Vindicator. And, if you want my opinion you should atleast know how to do a smiter.... 20 smite 20 Holy shield 20 fantasm + preq's and possibly defiance (even though i don't think it's worth it)
There are two smiter guides in sticky here (one (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=301191), two (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=421194)) and one more in pvp forum (click (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=534560)).
These are PvP guides. For PvM there's The 1pt smiter guide (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=425449) which is basicly fanatic zealot who uses 1 point smite against ubers, to turn it into pure pvm smiter just dump 20 points into smite (not that it would make any sense, for general pvm smite isn't very good).
All these guides can be found just by browsing stickies for about 2 minutes. How hard that can be?

There's no need to start rolling your eyes at people!
If you read my post again I said there is NOT a guide anywhere for a pure smiter. The first 3 links you put up are for PvP smiters, and NONE are pure smiters and the guides are really not suited for PvM in any way.
The last link you posted is very easy to find in the stickies, but is a "1-point smiter" and is NOT a pure smiter!! I will quote from within the guide itself;
"Skill distribution (identical to a pure Fanatic Zealot, that’s what you really are)."
So we are back to what the OP wanted to know, and what I want to know, is there a good PvM smiter guide anywhere? For advanced players, who want to try a more challenging build, or a "theme" build if you like to call it that. That is important to me, I have a lot of strong cookie cutter builds, but really like to take on a pure "theme" type challenge too.
I have a pure smiter, built without the help of any guide (unfortunately) who is carving easily through act2 Hell now. As a pure smiter he has used ONLY smite as his attack since lvl2 in the Blood Moor. Smite was maxed first, out of all the skills. And he has been pretty strong the whole way, with a few tricks and some different strategies.
I also have another pure smiter build about lvl20 who is benefitting from what I have learned so far with the first pure smiter, and who will be a more refined (perfect?) pure smiter when finished.
So before you start rolling your eyes you might want to read people's posts again and say "sorry there isn't a guide for that. Here is a guide instead that might have a tiny bit of the info you need." :soapbox:

Oh I see now..
PM me I can set you up with a guide on another site. I would post it here, but AFAIK that is not allowed here.
edit: the one I reference is pure pvm
A good PvM pure Smiter? Yes - it's a very difficult guide to find because such a build doesn't exist.
Smite is a great PvP and PvBoss skill because it never misses. But compared with things like Zeal, Frenzy, Whirlwind, Feral Rage etc. etc. it is slow and does a fraction of the damage.
A fully decked out pure Grief Smiter is "playable" in PvM, but a Zealot with Grief and little else would carve through monsters much faster. Save the pure Smiters for PvP.
smite is extremely useful if you're playing untwinked and having AR issues, also the stun and KB effect can be pretty useful as well. But pure smiter? no. You will still want to use zeal in many cases, specifically, when surrounded by a lot of small weak monsters.

I won't try to say that a PvM pure smiter is a good killing build like a Hdin etc, but it is still a viable theme build and can be a lot of fun.
My lvl80 pure smiter has a 5 second(!) stun length, and 60% crushing blow with +3 freezes target. On weapon switch he has 100% crushing blow and a fraction more speed. Add to that a holy freeze merc with reapers toll (decrep) and it is a VERY playable build.
I don't see why you think crowd control is a problem? With 5 second stun length and freeze target, he can control crowds very well. With that much crushing blow he doesn't need to worry about damage (no grief or fortiude needed) which frees up options for damage reduction gear etc.
I think the main problem is nobody tries to play a serious PvM pure smiter and there are few good guides to encourage it.
PS. Thanks Jozipper for that link!

Pshaw!! You have a merc with Reapers Toll and you are a pure smiter?? Not really optimal P vs M, is it?

I don't understand your point? Reapers Toll is great for this build as it breaks phys immunes so I can smite them to death.
And no it's not optimal. I have a couple of well built hammerdins who are much more "optimal" ie deadly and about 20 high level zealots who are very powerful also.
I never said "if someone is building their first Paladin it should be a pure smiter!"
What I am saying is "If you wan't a change from typical Pallys a theme build like a pure smiter CAN solo hell (reasonably well) and be a refreshing change.
There are build guides for other "less than optimal" builds like the Pally Squire etc for a fun change of pace. Why not a pure smiter build?

I started making a paladin a few days ago, and I think I would like to go smiter. I know you said it isn't the "best" choice for your first pally, but I'm hardly the conventional player. If it looks interesting to me, I'll play it over something that doesn't. Smiter just happened to catch my eye. I wanted to make a Zeal/Smite type build, but with more than only 1 point into smiting... I was wondering if someone could provide me with a guide that includes skill, stats, and skill progression over levels.
Pure Vitality Smiter is best (it can only be beat by pure Vitality Smiter with 3 or more 40+ lifer Pcombs - any other Smiter with lower lifer Pcombs will not win). NOTE: This build is particularly expensive. If you do not have wealth, replace what items you cannot get with those that will add life.
Gear:
Shako (Ber) (Be sure to get as close as you can to having 50% Damage Reduce on gear)
Mageplate Nigma (Be sure to put every point into Vitality - I dont bother with Max Block because I specialize in dueling other Smiters - If you wish to have Max Block, go ahead with Dexterity)
Maras/Slippers/Ammy with 100 life/3 pcomb (All expensive - this last one is very cool to have though)
Upped HoZ (Ber) (Never use Exile - Bm)
Grief Zerker (Yes - ALWAYS Grief)
Crafted Gloves with 20 Ias/life/Crushing Blow/Sanders Gloves (Be sure to get at least 55 Ias to hit the FPS breakpoint)
Waterwalk (Use Goblintoe if your opponent has more life than you)
Dungos
Bk Ring (Use Raven if needed)
Bk Ring
Torch/Anni/37 20 Lifer Scs
