I've been tooling around in the single player and I think it aught to be an okay time killer. The first couple of missions I ended up with an epic templar broadsword...(level 2 ish) which I am still using (level 13) as well as various other bits. Had I the manual some things would be less confusing, but the single player is mostly fun.

Just dropping it out there.

I havent read much good about it although I know ppl playing it. I have considered it but I just dont know. The movies I have seen of it gives me the feel of a FPS more than RPG, or alot of similarity of a 1.09 WW Barb.......just go crush things with little thought needed.

Dunno if I'd buy it, but it was worth the download. Alot of the times it's as complicated as you want it to be. I can stand in the middle of a ton of enemies and swing until there are no more as a guardian but anything else that's death.

I've been playing Hellgate for over a week most evenings and probably have a total playtime of about 20 hours. At first I thought it was a bit poor but the further I have got into it the more I am enjoying it. It was only yesterday that my first and only single player character has made it to a level 15 marksman.

The demo does not really give you a chance to get the feel for the game.

I've only just completed Act 2. I understand there are 5 Acts. There is a lot of potential here. I plan to complete it with each of the 6 characters in single player before I go online with it. This could well take me some months.

It's kept me out of the pub this week so it's paid for itself already and that's not a bad endorsement! If I do subscribe, it's not going to be for a long, long time yet. It's got its bugs but it will get there eventually.

If you love Diablo (which you do coz you would not be reading this) then you'll enjoy Hellgate.

I've been enjoying it as well last week.

Started out with a multiplayer char right away, but did not get to party much as of yet. Not that I bothered to try yet :D

I'm about lvl 15 atm as well, forgot the actual class name but it's one of those melee swordfighter dudes. Fighting actually reminds me of Diablo a lot. Most of the times I can just hack away, but every now and then I have to be damn careful and plan my battles beforehand or find myself staring at my own headstone :D

Figuring out the item upgrading and modding system as well as the skill tress is gonna take me some time, methinks...

Enjoying it so far, don;t know if I;ll ever subscribe, although that's were hardcore mode is... Man was i aggrivated when I found out about that, ah well...

For a single player game that the internet gifted me with, it's great. I would never pay money for this.

Maybe the actual game comes with documentation that explains the rather complex wepon system and the thingies down in the right hand corner of the screen.

Everyone I talk to says that the game is rather broken in it's current state and to save my $40.

Also heard that's some wtfpwnd monsters in there that would make hardcore pretty hardcore...

it still has the feeling that its not completed yet although i do enjoy it. getting ppl to party with u is a PITA but its still not too bad. they will be patching several times a year tho for subscription and non. it can only get better from here.

To be honest they are pretty ballsy to be offering a lifetime subscription option...I honestly can't see anything over a year on this game for anyone but the most avid of fanbois

I bought the game last week, and been enjoying it ever since.
Have a couple of characters, a level 16 Guardian (Barb/Pal mix) who relies a lot on shields and auras and a lvl 11 Engineer, a ranged class with lots of robots, really fun to play with.
I must be lucky, cause i haven't had a single bug, or i didn't see it. Playing online and all good, exept the fact that no party's are going everywhere, well everyone is kind of discovering the game by himself for now, kind of like leveling in WoW. Although the chat UI is really really bad, and i have yet to igure out some things about the UI. Then manual is gross, and you don't learn a damn thing in it. Most things are intuitive, but come on what the hell are those little icons on the lower right side of your screen?
And some clarifications about weapons and all would have been welcomed, but cruising around the net and the official forums i somehow get it now.

It's a fun H&S game, people just need to realise it ain't Diablo 3, it's Hellgate London !

Actually I like this option, now it may be based on the fact they think its only good for a 12-18 month life span. However, I totally object to those monthly games that are pulling in millions. We did have basically only (2) structures, pay to play and buy it and play forever, but now there is a third which is something that is attractive to me.

I think among the gamers out there you have soo many different types of players that each game draws people on what the game costs over all almost as much as how good the game might be. Many players like to play multiple games, but if you are paying 15/mth for a game it sort of drives you to play that game hard and not take breaks, or take breaks after a 30 day sub runs out.

Game may turn out to be just something that has a quick 6-12 month span, but I like the lifetime sub offer and hope to see it in some other games.

I like it on the basis that it says "hey, if anyone buys this we are actually going to have to keep this thing up to date until they stop writing us Emails".

I've noticed that level 15 in retrospect seems to be the level where things got alot harder as a melee character. Maybe it was due to the fact that I was using a terrible wepon that I thought was awsome (Had a big number...number means nothing useful ~.~) or maybe it was just bad choices (run around the room, aggro everything, sheildspin, repeat) but that seemed to be where I hit a speed bump. As an evoker though I've managed to pretty much run circles around everything, save for early level bosses. Sniping things with the fart-ghost thingamajig and then bonespearing them was nice but spectral lash is just overpowered (bug : You can use it with no mana)

Well it all depends on your level and the mobs :)
At lvl 16 with my guardian i'm having no problems at all, but i tend to get lucky on drops and have a really good sword + shield combo.

I myself played Wow for a while, and paid 12 euros/ month (something like 15 dollars) for over a year. But if you think about it, per day played it ain't that much at all. The thing is that games like these tend to be really addictive, and guilds required alot of play time to achieve anything. I played in a casual guild, playing 2/3 nights a week and it was good. You just have to peace yourself i think :p i actually managed and enjoyed it.

Whats so good about hellgate, it's that the game is quite good looking for this type of game, and the armors are just amazing. And it's quite addictive, like Diablo 2 was for me a few years ago. I just want to smash some mobs :)

Screw Hellgate.

I think Assassins Creed will hold me over for a bit.

I agree. I'm enjoying it too. I quite happily play through areas again because I've got a big gun, it kills monsters and things blow up.

ps I live in London and we do not have that many exploding barrels on the streets, although I would like to try with one of the barrels that those horse chestnut sellers have. The debris and rubbish is about right, as is the state of the buildings. Don't want any potential tourists to get the wrong idea. :wink3:

By they way, i finnaly found out what the hell those little icons on the bottom right corner are !
http://forums.hellgatelondon.com/showthread.php?t=22695

This is a minigame apparently. The icons represent a few tasks like completing a quest, killing 100 of these type of mobs, collect 10 belts ...
Well it's better explained in the post :p

I might wait a few months and see how the online community stabilizes before I purchase. I enjoyed the single player at any rate.

Im still gauging my interest .. It looks kewl and id probably like it as I played the Quake series and this is Quake on steroids basically . Big Gun , Bigger Monsters , Lots of detailed backgrounds , grusome deaths , and nasty explosions .. I kind of like that pay for life option too because I know id get my monies worth if I liked it that much ..

Am I the only one who really bored of the game due to the lack of multiplayer?

Perceval

Quake ? What does it have to do with quake?
Besides the First person view and the guns ... Oh wait it does :p But don't but misled, this is no FPS. The FPS view is just for the kicks, your aiming is really determined by your stats, skills and weapons. But it's somehow really cool to snipe some guys from far away from time to time.

The thing is, this is a new game, and not much partying going on due to everyone leveling (seems alot faster solo as mobs get really hard to kill in partys) and the lack of a proper UI and chat channels.

But you want to party just type "/channeljoin LFG" :)

As the game goes on, i'm sure we will see more and more partying when the "mini raids" will come out, well for suscribers. As for now, item finding seems to be a lot like in Diablo 2, but most bosses are quests, and you can't do them twice. Popular choice for farming is Shulgoth in NM. Seems they emphasis more on random farming rather than boss hunting a la Diablo.

Oh and, NM mode seems kind of broke right now. Last boss in game, won't give name to not spoil, is actually level 62, and you can level to 50 max right now. And hiting, applying dot's to a 8+ level mob is impossible :p.
Ah forgot too, people are aalready finding lvl 50+ items, so you can't wear em. Hummmm, seems like for christmass, wich is when they will release new content, there will be a new level cap ^^.

Last night finally got to level 20 on my Guardian, don't have much time to play right now preparing a trip. Boy i love to smash those demons :)

I'm playing the single player now, I meant to do so sooner but my old PC couldn't quite handle it smoothly.

New one runs it perfectly though, and seems fun so far ^^
