I have seen many people talk about their "endless cow runs" in search of items.
I thought you could only open the cow portal ONCE per difficulty level you beat? So how can you do endless cow runs?

Also, I see the annihilus and torch mentioned a lot. I know what the first is, it's sometihng you only get from those Übers, but what is the second?

As long as you don't kill the Cow King you can continue to open up portals and run the Moo Moo Farm. This is why it's best to run the level with a LF Javazon or a pure lightning sorceress, since the King is lightning immune.

You have it backwards for the unique charms. The annihilus is dropped by the Diablo Clone (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=568019) and the torch by the ubers (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=571733) in Tristam

Well, it's a tad more complicated than that.

I suggest reading through this. (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=341175) It was written for classic so just replace the word "diablo" with "baal."

KILLING the KING: in 1.10 (cow king quest)

The key to this is the char that gets the last hit on the king (killing blow) and if that char can still make the red tp or not.

If that char can still make the red portal then everyone thats down in the cow lev will lose the "cow king quest" IF THEY ARE IN THE PARTY OR NOT

If the char that gets the last hit on the king CANT make the red tp then everyone is safe.(then have killed the king for the quest in a different game, were in the cow lev when the king was killed someone doing the quest or havent killed diablo in tha lev game)

Now if you take a char that hasn't killed Diablo in that lev game (they cant make the tp) that char can kill the cow kill all they want and not lose the quest.

If you have a lev 60 char that just started hell and is only in act1. They have not killed hell Diablo so they can't make the red tp, so it is safe for them to kill the king all they want untill that char does kill hell diablo. Then its no longer safe for them to kill the cow king. That works as long as they never are in a game where someone else kills the king for the quest.

NOTE: when the king is killed by someone for the quest he will always drop 8 stamina pots

The only safe place to be when the king is killed is in town or back in chat

complicated or not, just don't kill the cow king and you'll be able to repeat as many times as you like.

Is it possible for it to be 'worth it' to kill the cow king? I don't think she's anything special, correct?

It's a bit of a misnomer, isn't it? Cows are female, bulls are male. So really it should have been the Cow Queen. Or the Bull King. But a Cow King?

However, there's is Cow King sighted lurking on these forums. If you kill him you can still open Moo Moo Farm. But that's the only exception.

Annother variant: Use one character to open the portal, annother to run the cows. This way I kill also Cow Ruler (or whatever). My running char cant open cows but I can run them "endless".
Btw, even my mercs killed him/she/it accidently.

The Cow King must be a she. It should either have been the Bull King or the Cow Queen. Now do I see a potential character name here?

Based on the graphics, all the "cows" in the cow levels appear to have udders. Including the king. So they are definitely female unless the "king" is a transexual.

I vote we be politically correct and use the term "Bovine Monarch". :wink:

That's simply not true. If you read anything in that posted link or in the quoted section you would know that.....:rolleyes:

I'll bring out two of the more relevant things for you:
1. You can kill the king all you want as long as you aren't elgible to complete the quest (you haven't killed baal in that difficulty).

2. However, if someone eligible to complete the quest kills the king, then everyone in the cow level partied or not will get the quest.

Just because something is slightly complicated doesn't mean you should avoid it altogether just to keep from having to think a bit.

Which is why I prefer SP, no need to worry about what party members are doing, just keep an eye on what I'm killing.

Thanks for clearing that up earlier JME, from time to time I seem to forget there are differences.

This is also a well known side effect of taking steroids, so the Cow King is probably just a bull having a roid rage when you come to visit.

Don't be so obvious staring at all the udders, and he might cool down a bit. Have some discretion and dignity, already.

i got dropped from a bunch of cow runs yesterday, Connection Interrupted, and couldn't rejoin the games. is this usually the result of multiple Hellfire Torches spawning their CTC firestorm?

If you have a character who is a good cow killer who inadverently completes the Cow King quest (either killing the King herself or having another player who hasn't killed the King before kill the King while she is present in the cow level) you can still run cows, you just need someone else to open the portal. If you have two computers, that is easy, or even with one computer you can start a game with a character who can make cows, open the portal, not enter, go MF and kill for 5 minutes or so, then leave the game and your other character can then enter and step through the portal.

The Normal Cow King is an excellent source of some of the elusive TC3 items like Tancred's boots, for example. And the both the normal and NM Cow King is a good source of the Cow King's items, although I think only the NM one can drop the hat from that set.
