Dueling Etiquette?

Didn't find a guide anywhere to this.. But often I hear of bad manners in dueling.

Now I understand that pots are of course bad, but often enigma is considered as well. Is this because the runes to make it are most likely duped? What else is bad manners? Where can I learn about "bm"?

BM is used as a word to aggregate everything unfair, unbalanced, and poor etiquette. its all based on convention, and will vary from realm to realm.

in general pvp, health pots are usually considered BM. there usually are some sort of absorb limits (1 absorb per element or something similar), but that depends greatly on where you duel. regarding enigma being BM... that's probably just someone being a sore loser. you will be hard pressed to find any community that agrees enigma to be BM; the person that you dueled probably just couldn't afford his own and was being a little bit creative in his own defense.

if you want to learn about what is BM, go look at the rules for some of the dueling communities on your realm, and just use your best judgment as to what proper etiquette is.

EDIT: you'll also find that some specific duels have their own set of rules, like bone spirit being BM in nvn duels on uswest, or grief being BM in zealot duels, etc. but again, its all based on convention and you'll just have to learn it as you go along.

The general rule of thumb is that if you win in a pub duel then you are doing something BM, and the guy that lost will be sure to come up with the reason later. Keep in mind logic is often times thrown to the wind at such times, and the simple statement of "you are a nub" will be considered explanation enough 99% of the time.

some things most people will agree on. no nk, no healing pots, no total absortion or nullification of elements.

even if you are fully "gm" and even friendly likely a third or more of your victims will play the"OMFG U HACK" card. the ironic thing is that they are usauly using tmc+gmod+all the other hacks. in which case just squelch them and continue to kill them in a friendly manor.

in the end no matter what you do some people with their 79 IQ and anger management issue will always find a way to whine and cry no matter how friendly and gm you are.

For me BM applies when you duel in a community with established rules.

Otherwise if you join a pub game, squelch first (really, do you need to read what the tell you) and proceed to create as much destruction as you can with legit items found in the game.

I have no sympathy for pub games. Their is no way to control a pub game so why care about BM when you have most people using hacks, dupes and crap.

I'm all for private games with rules, less likely to get hacks, etc. Here knowing which BM applies is appropriate.

Never said they all were. But chances are low to find a pub game without someone cheesing with some glitch, duper, or etc. Typically I squelch after they start a spam fest. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt that they are a decent player. However once proven wrong, either I decide to leave or kill by any means necessary until they leave (in a pub game). Pub games duels work less often than private ones. That's my point.

Alright, I can somewhat agree with that. I do agree that the chances of someone hacking, glitching, or just outright using BM in a pub game are higher than private, but I've had quite a few really good duel games before (though, now I generally lld so it eliminates a large majority of problems I'd encounter anyway).

That aside, I agree completely with driving morons out of the game.

Last night I was yelled at for using poison in a mid-level duel game, and it was only a charm so I took it off. Then he complained i was cheating and left. Guess he is just a whiner.

I still can't get over how many people complain over the stupidest things. Last night I dueled a FB sorc with my LLD mauler. She actually got pissed that I dodged her Fireballs and then moved into melee range when I could tell she was out of mana.

Apparently I'm supposed to charge into her fireballs, and anything less is BM. :rolleyes:

I've been using bone prison on smiters with enigma since they can teleport.. and they still say bm.

auradins use that retarded glitch nowadays but other than that they are mostly ez to own as long as you know when to stay out of their range
