Arreat Summit states that lightning resistance helps vs. Static Field.
But how and how much?
If a creature has 40% LR, and I would normally reduce its health by 25% of its current amount, would I reduce it then by 10% (.4 x 25)?
I gather than Lightning Mastery doesnt help here, right?
I can hardly judge in-game...
thanks much

I'm pretty sure Static Field will reduce a monster's current life by 25% regardless of its Lightning Resistance. However, if a monster is immune to Lightning, Static Field will not work on it. I assume that is what Arreat Summit is talking about.

Hmn ok thanks.
Static Field is Lightning damage, and can be resisted through Lightning Resistance.
Static Field is not affected by Conviction and Lower Resist.
Static Field will not take a monster below 33% health in Nightmare and 50% in Hell.
Just seems a weird way to formulate it. I find it very difficult to test in-game.
I always thought it worked like this:
Static Fields take off 25% of a remaining moster's health. However, it takes any positive resistances in account. In Nightmare and Hell, it will not go below 1/3 and 1/2, respectively, of a monster's health.
That pretty much reflects what the Arreat Summit says. Assuming this is all true, Lightning Mastery does not affect Static Field in any way.
Btw, there may be a penalty of 50% less health reduction for using Static Field against Uniques/Super Uniques/Prime Evils.

Resistance absolutely works against Static. Otherwise, why would it take more than 3 casts to get Hell Meph down to 50%? (And since I just killed him, I'd guess it was 5-7 casts).
Edit: I just reread Arkado's last sentence... I guess that's a possibility - if it's true. I'm going to do a quick rerun of Meph since my map was near perfect.
Edit2: I'm not very good at counting/guessing. It was 12 casts of static to get Hell Meph to 50% (I tested twice). Meph is 75% resistant in Hell. If someone's ambitious enough to do the complete math from there, that'll settle it.
BTW, you guys owe me 49200 gold to ressurect my merc.
