View Full Version : Fire druid viable in pvp?
Anybody tried duelling with a fire druid? Say with armageddon and fissure? Is this a viable pvp char? Experiences please.

they can pvp, although alot of success will come from pure shock value and lack of experience from your opponents in dueling one before.
they are really expensive just to be competative as well.
they can be viable, but they are no means "top tier" duelers, but they can be extremely fun if you get into it.

Not really. You have no truly offensive skills and that hurts, besides the fact that in order to do decent damage you have to sacrifice pretty well everything to get -res gear.
If i were to make one, what kind of gear setup would i be looking at?

do a search on the pvp & druid forum. you will find lots of info. anymore questions after that and someone here will gladly help.
my advice to you is dont build one like you would build a windy.
also to add onto what inanefedaykin, most of that is true if you're more of a pub dueler. private duels or any duel with more structured rules will work in a fire druids favour.

I'll probably give this a shot and go max block.

You can go the standard bnet fire druid:
Get fissure and all its synergies, hostile everyone, while people are getting their bodies run just outside of town, cast fissure, and run back in. The fissure will be invis and will nk all the people walking over it.

That isn't a gg fire druid, we want something that will go out in the field and duel. xD
What's better? spirit, stormshield, or a shield with block and has sockets (For facets) Maybe I can use my ATOD for this.
And, should i be asking these questions in the druid section?
Let's compare Fissure to Blizzard.
Blizzard:
-tends to instahit whatever it's cast on, but doesn't get multiple hits much
-hard to stack against, most people don't have all the gear needed
-ideal damage = around 16K with -250ish cold mastery, then add more from facets
-ice blast and that AoE cold spike as backup attacks
-decent FCR and excellent FHR rates, intrinsic teleport
-100 points
Fissure:
-hits people who run over it multiple times, but doesn't do much when they stand still
-easy to stack against, most people don't have all the gear needed
-ideal damage = around 7K with -95 res from facets (that's if you go all out on the facets)
-volcano and firestorm (lol) as backup attacks on a shared timer, can synergize armageddon which hits once in a million and does less damage than a fireball
-crap FHR and FCR rates, no intrinsic teleport, but has minion stack
-60 points (IE can max sage)
So you can either use all your gear for damage, thus reaching blizzard-like levels of one hit kill. (And limiting yourself to town camping.) Or get some survivability. (Thus making a character that's about as survivable as a high FCR/FHR blizz sorc, but with less damage and a weakness to hotspurs/mindblast/gmod charge+smite.)
Bit of a lose/lose situation as far as honorable dueling is concerned. The first option works great for wrecking pubs though, clans and BMers can't do **** to a druid that always dies 1cm away from town. It's probably the funnest PK char I've ever made, just because it's IMPOSSIBLE to bm it in any way. I just tab out when I get camped in doing something else, then come back, kill, and commence camping... (Stashing lightning res is a good idea though, for FC/traps.)
Fire druids would rock pretty hard if there was no enigma and people ran around. As it is they suck, the only time a competent dueler will run is when he's leaving town. (Hence town guarding build.)

I opted to go with a more fcr/fhr build which lessened my damage. The best combo for survivablity with decent killing power was when I used hoto with spirit. Using a 6 facet sword and 4 facet shield just killed my fcr and I was a sitting duck. With spirit and hoto my fissure damage did drop to 5.5k, but still not shabby and I did fairly well in duels. The one thing that hurts is the lack of - resistances from the facets. I may try using the faceted shield or crystal sword in combo with spirit and hoto to get a good mix.
