View Full Version : Help me with my pit/mf lite sorc build!

So i have the fundamentals down and really only have a few questions. I am using full tals (ptopaz'd where applicable) war travs, spirit monarch, chance guards and dual nagels.
The problem is that I am desperately lacking in mana and don't do the best damage which brings me to the crux of my issue:
Should I use infinity in my merc (i'm pure lite so it helps with immunities and i am only lvl 71 and am using tals so it helps with damage) or insight?
If i use infinity then, where could i sacrifice mf in my build for mana?
soj instead of nagel? frost or magefist instead of chance guards?
or if I use insight, should I just deal with the not-so-great damage or is there another way?
Replies are deeply appreciated.
Well IMO, tal rasha is a great set (in fact one of the best), but not for a light sorc since she needs lot of FCR and + skills which is something that this set does not offer. Rares and uniques are they way to go.
If you can use infinity the by all means, use it! It will improve your damage a lot!
First of all, I'd say that the only thing from tal's that is worth using by a light sorc is the amu and that is if you don't have a maras or a rare +3 light sorc with res and FCR amu.
I'd say ditch the tal's armor for a vipermagi. It has + skills, res and FCR. Or if you can afford it use CoH which is the ultimate sorc armor.
Throw away the Tal's mask and replace it with a Shako. Lots of mana, +2 skills and MF! Great stuff.
HotO is a great weapon for a light sorc. 40FCR, 3skills +30-40 all res. Outperforms tal's orb. What more is there to say? Throw away that tal's orb, you deserve better  Or if you can't afford it, get a occu. You'll have to bear with the annoying tele for a while until you can afford HotO, but its still better than tal's orb.
What FCR do you have on your spirit? If you don't have 35, try to get one because it really helps out.
Magefists or frosties are the way to go. It all depends on whether you're short on mana or FCR.
To sum up your skills benefits:
+2 (maras) or +3 (light sorc amu)
+1 (vipermagi) or +2 (CoH)
+2 (shako)
+3 (hoto or occu)
+2 (spirit)
-------
+10 or +12 (if CoH and light sorc amu)
VS
+7 (tal's set and spirit )
FCR speaking you have:
+10 (light amu)
+30 (vipermagi)
+40 (HotO) or +30 (occu)
+35 (spirit)
+20 (mage fists)
------
+135 which is 20 more than you need unless you're aiming for the top. 115 if enough IMO. That way you break the light skills speed (when casting L or CL) and the rest (tele, static, etc.).
VS
+60 (tal's orb and spirit)
MF speaking you have:
25% (CoH)
50% (Shako) + P.topaz -> 74%
50% (occu)
-----
125%
VS
108% (tal's armor and belt)
Add your nagels and war travs and you're up to around 200 depending on their stats. Throw in a gheed's too and you should be breaking the 200 barrier even more.
As you might have noticed i didn't use the same items for all calculations, but that's just to show what items to use in order to benefit maximally for that stat in particular. You'll have to balance your items to find out what suits you.
This build will never be better than a pure MF sorc (FO/Meteorb for instance) in terms of MF, but who said a light sorc is the best way to go for MF? Atleast, you're way faster at killing and if you have a infinity, you're even more dangerous

Marthax
Nitpicking, 117 is the fcr bp.
My bad, thanks for correcting that pedu

Thank you very much for that. I have 25 7% mf scs so I can definitely sacrifice some mf.
One more question. What is a good balance of mf to have? I may um some of the items as opposed to ptopaz them due to the charms.
Is max block something to puruse? I am pretty sure I screwed up my sorc because she has over 100 dex and only ~40+ block.
What is a good balance of mf to have? Well that's very hard to answer as it depends on the player, but to me 200-300 is enough as long as I have the killing power and speed. There comes a point where more MF becomes to much of a burden for your speed and damage to carry. That's when you should stop upping it.
Unless you're doing a enchantress, which you're not, max block (and dex for that matter) should not be touched since it's a total waste. I've always used either a pure vita or ES sorc. Atm, I have a light ES sorc and she rocks as long as you avoid tomb vipers, but that's another story
