View Full Version : Imbue Quest
whats the best item to imbue? any kind of circlets? does game difficulty matter? does character level matter? if so which level should you use up all 3 quests on? does item level matter? if so what item level circlet should i be looking for? also i heard if you reroll a circlet it degrades the item level, is this true? will rerolling grand charms degrade the item level? are baal grand charms the best for rerolling? can you reroll grand charms with perfect skulls?
Best imbues are eth dimensional blades, circlet type headgear, in some cases other stuff. Difficulty doesn't matter. Character level matters. The ilvl of the new item will be clvl + 4. When you want to imbue depends on what you're looking for. If it's +2 skills, then lvl 83 for circlets, lvl 78 for coronets, (don't remember tiaras) and lvl 8 for diadems. Item level, item quality (superior, cracked, etc) does not matter. Neither does defense roll or staffmods/automods on the item. It is "eaten" by the game, and is only used to determine what kind of rare the output is. About degrading item levels, it is true in some cases, and false in other cases. But rerolling rares will reroll the ilvl. One formula for each recipe, both depending on old ilvl and clvl. Rerolling magic items with perfect gems will NOT change item level. Doing the same thing with chipped or flawless gems (weapons only) will set ilvl to 25 or 30 depending on recipe. Baal/Dia/Nihl GCs are the only ones capable of getting 41-45 life. Any GC from a monster lvl 50 or greater is a potential skiller. Skulls are gems too, so the reroll recipe will work.

Why are Eth Dimensional Blades so good of an imbue?

You can up them to eth phase blades and they become eth/indestructable automatically.

i tend to imbue greater talons @ lvl89 or higher.
the mechanics of the Imbue quest guarentees three staffmods at that level (or higher).
otherwise, imbue diadems at level 8.
other popular imbues are eth blade talons at lvl 15 and eth ornate plate armours at lvl30 (? i think). these last two are hoping for the godly lld itam.

Diadems at level 8? Why? For the 20 faster cast rate?

Earliest level you can get the quest and reward. Diadems mlvl (magic not monster level that is) means they can always spawn with all affixes.
Also eth Ornate plates would be imbued for lvl30 characters but not at level 30. I'm not sure what the actual level you'd want to be is so I wont throw any incorrect info out there.

Most of the time, I'm too lazy to mule imbue-items after the fact and complete the quest, so I've been trying to make due with items on hand so that the quest doesn't go to complete waste. This means:
In normal... a wand or staff, or something that'll likely sell for 5k to the vendor. :p
In nightmare... usually I'm high enough (character) level for a chance at a really good belt, boots, or gloves (not that I ever get them, of course). So about the time I hit Act5 normal, I pick up the first Demonhide Sash or Chain Boots/Gloves, or whatever that I come across.
In hell... ditto, but ethereal weapons & tiaras can be added to the mix. My level's usually too low to have a chance at +2 skills on Coronets and/or Circlets, so I tend to skip those.
Of course, playing untwinked is another strategy entirely. That depends more on the character and what it needs most.
the difficulty of the quest dosint mather does it?
cus im sure iv got some good tiaras / diadems from imbueing them in Normal / NM

My point was that I use the quest when I get it, because I'm too lazy to 'come back to it later'... if I weren't that lazy, I wouldn't have ~200 unused Imbue quests spread across ~70 characters already. Also, since I stick to a "use as you go" theory, Diadems & Tiara's aren't exactly dropping in normal or nightmare difficulty.
In normal, when my character level is ~10, there really aren't any good options for 'end-game' rares with the items I have on hand... so I look at it as an opportunity to make an easy 5k gold (if you're questing through Act1 normal and come across a pile of 5k gold on the ground, would you pick it up? I would).
In Nightmare, with character level ~40+, belts, boots, and gloves can actually be end-game worthy if you get lucky, but the odds on circlets or coronets at that level surpassing something like a Shako (which I am willing to mule later on) are much, much lower.
But yes, if I muled a bunch of diadems on there and used those, it would have good odds, no matter what. Likewise, if I waited until level ~80 before returning to Normal/Nightmare to imbue a muled Tiara, it would also have a chance to get what I want (read: +2 class skills and other goodies).
But I've already proven - repeatedly - that I'm not willing to make the effort to mule items for imbuing, so instead I've decided to focus on the minimal effort I am willing to make (on this quest) with un-muled items with some potential to become top-end items. :p
