...use a Colossus Voulge Insight polearm?

He's an Act II Prayer Merc, hired from Normal, currently level 48 so, in theory, he'd be able to use the CV... except that his Strength is seriously below the requirement. Around 125 now, and no boosting from equipment.

Could anyone help on what to do? Should I just forget it and try to get him... eh... 25 more levels so he can use an Insight Thresher?

If you give him Griswold's armor with perfect emeralds (adds +50 str), he will be able to wear it far earlier. As soon as you give him Andy's (which won't be before L82), that helm alone will give him enough str to change the armor, e.g. Treachery or (my el cheapo favourite) Gris armor with IAS jewels.

Um, just a note - Amethyst's give Str, Emerald's give Dex.

But I second the Grisword's armor plan.

Another one thats works is the underrated Spirit Forge armor. Only 2 sockets, but IIRC 15 base str. So 35 total.

Hm. I'm guessing that maybe I'll try trading my CV for a Thresher, since the damage isn't too different and its faster, plus much lower Strength requirement... I could even equip it with a double PAmethyst Spirit Forge, or a Grizzy.

This is half of the reason why 4 socket CVs aren't as valuable as their counterparts.

Yep, Merc level 54 is equipping it with triple Pamethyst Griz and Pamethyst Guil's face.

EDIT: If Grizwold's +2 Def Auras affected Meditation, it would be dandy... I don't think it even affects Prayer.

I've tested +skills on mercenaries, and - at least with an ethereal Demonhorn's Edge - they rarely help anything. Perhaps +tAS, but not page or class.

As for theory saying a CLvl48 merc can use even an eCV Insight, that's ridiculous. This person thinking -req should affect RLvls, that person thinking anyone can use sacred armor at CLvl66 regardless of strength...
