Hey everyone im new here. I think im going to come back to D2 because im sick and bored of WOW. But i have a few questions and i hear there is the place with the experts to ask.
1. Would my account be purged or deleted? Does that happen? I havent played for like 2 years.
2. I used to play strictly hardcore and will play only hardcore again. Is there a big population difference between east and west? Which should i play?
3. Should i play ladder or non ladder?
4. Do a lot of people still actually play this game or is it dieing? I hear it will probably stay popular until diablo3 because there is nothing else out there like it right now?
5. Anything else new and exciting i should know about playing the game and playing in HC mode? Like i said i havnt been on in about 2 years.
Thanks so much guys!
Ryan
Accts can be purged after a long time but not sure of the time, mine were purged when I came back this time but it had been over a year but in previous times it was that long and they were still there.
Characters if not played get put on a 90 day timer IIRC if they arent played before that runs out they basically die, you can see them just cant play them.
All new characters need to be played 2 hours to "burn them in" or they stay on a 10 or 11 day timer before they become unplayable. This is why you will see mule burning games. This is a non-issue for characters you play really and once you burn in a mule it has the 90 day thing which IIRC is triggered after 30 days of no play so its more like 120 days of no play before a burnt in guy is lost.
Go East........no garuntees on who will be on when you are and you should try and get involved in some of the forum organized stuff to get to know ppl.
Ladder for sure........not a soul non-ladder or very very few
Game is basically dead but still breathing.....coma......there are still a good number of people that play but they also do other things. You will see ppl here come and go regularly, go do 30 days of WOW and come back to DII for a while then go do WoW again or something else. Be prepared to do some solo play or risk public.
Beware of TPPK (basically killing you with no way for you to stop it) do a search for TPPK and read.
There is a HC faq at the top of the forum. I am sure if you played HC before you will be aware of most things but feel free to ask pointed questions. Beware of the Nightmare Fire Enchanted foes if you dont remember them, they can kill you with thier death explosions.

1. Yes, as per Stinger.
2. West has people, they're the disorganized barbarian hordes to our decadent Roman Empire. Go East!
3. Ladder, see Stinger. Non-ladder is where people go to die.
4. See Stinger.
5. Not much. You have heard about the Ubers?

You can find a safe Baal run most nights if you get to know the people here.

No i havnt heard about the ubers. One other thing i wanted to ask is the game mostly soloing now or something, it sounds that way?
If the game is how it was when i used to play you could never solo your way to the high levels or it would take you forever

Ubers is actual new content as of 2005 (?).
On Hell Difficulty, the Countess, Summoner, and Nihlaktak all have the chance to drop special keys. Using these keys you can make portals to fight some Uber-bosses (Lillith (uber Andy), Uber Duriel, and Uber Izual(?)). Anyway, once you kill them all and collect various organs, you can spawn a portal to fight Uber-Mephisto, Uber-Ball, and Uber-Diablo who are all level 110 and can spawn minions from thin air. Once you kill them all you get an Hellfire Torch (Unique Large Charm):
+3 Random Skill Class
+10-20 All attributes (Varies)
+10-20 All resistances (Varies)
+Some chance to cast Diablo's Fire thingee
Light Radius + 3 or something, I dunno, Its been a while since I've had one.
People tend to solo the ubers. It just makes it go faster.
Solo is the only option if there's no one around you trust. Some people enjoy joining Public games in order to cast a spell, then TP to town and Hostile you while the spell is still going, usually killing you instantly. A 3rd party program is sometimes used. Whenever you see TPPK in these forums, that's what they're talking about.
Above lev 90, Baal runs are the only way to go. There isn't really all that much to do above 90 anyway.
