Grief!
Well thats what I would make. Fort is a nice option, and can be used on more builds, but I would still like my own Grief self made. One piece of advice, just in case, don't make in a eth armor, yes the defense can reach 3k, but you can't use on a character, and I wouldn't use my only self found HR on something I can never use.
Either way, its still nice to have one drop, thanks to Blizzards poor insight on the matter, they drop way to little. With all I have played, the highest i've personally had drop was a Vex, giving 2 of them in 2 different places, but I would like to be able to make a self found Engima/Infinity/BOTD one day without having to mimic playing like a bot, I can't waste my life away playing that much, nor do I want to.
Every game I play I want to be able to get everything it has to offer in 6 months of nice solid playtime, its been a year and a half now.....
Congrats on it though, use it wisely, and when you do, roll the best!

If this was possible then games wouldn't have as much replay value.
No, with the sheer overpoweredness of high rune runewords, imo their rarity is about right in my opinion. If you want to make a legit Infinity you've got to damned well want it! You don't get to just decide one day.... hmmm... I think I'll make a lightning sorc with an Infinity merc... nope, you've got to beat the game 100 times over before you get the privilege of building that perfect light sorc (legitimately at least).
They are rare runes for the rare truly dedicated players reward, not for the weekend player to build whatever build that they want.

Well that's why you can cube them =pYou need like 10k forges to cube zod or something...... Rare is one thing, insanity is another. A perfectionist should be able to finish the game in a year or 2 completely (constant playing, of course), and that degree of rareness is beyond that of a perfectionist.

A perfectionist has it worse off then just a normal collector. How often does a CoA, Griff, Tyrael's etc drop, and how often do the roll with perfect mods on them? How long could it take till you roll that 400% ED eBOTD getting a Zod every 10 years? Doing a grail is one thing, but to do a perfect grail would just be flat out insane.
As for reply value, well, if I wanted an Enigma on all my XX characters, it should and would still take a while, but being able to make an Enigma after say, 100 hours of game play, wouldn't stop me from playing. People play online where getting HR's are semi-easy, do they stop after a week or two? No, they keep playing doing whatever, trying out new wacky builds, PvPing, Rushing, going to level 99 (another issue i have) MFing, doing countless other things to keep it interesting (HC ftw!)
If an item is introduced, you SHOULD be able to get it. HR's aside, I still have never seen a Tyrael's drop, or alot of other stuff, hell even some not so rare items (Finally found my first Death's Web). The people who spend all this time cubing and cubing to get one HR are beyond my comprehension, I couldn't fathom taking that much time for one item. In all the hours i've clocked on this game, I STILL haven't found anything higher than a Vex, even if I cube every single one of the runes i have EVER found, I still wouldn't have a legit Enigma.
And games are suppose to be a weekend kinda thing, a game should NOT have to take over your life to just get something like a legit Auradin. Being able to wake up one day and say "Hey, I fell like making a Auradin" shouldn't be the start of the loss of your sanity. Hell i'm having a hard time finding Lem's to upgrade stuff atm, let alone Lo's, Jah's, Ber's etc.
Oh yeah, and we all know how overpower "Wind" is.....
Meh, I love this game. I love the unique item system. I will play it for a long time to come. But I HATE how rare some stuff is.

The thing is, that's all relative to how much time you spend playing.
People who have nothing better to do want a sink they feel like they're working towards with 1000 hours of game play just as much as you want a sink you feel like you're working towards with 100 hours.
So if, say, HRs were easier to obtain, then Blizzard would just add something new for the people who want to devote insane amounts of time to the game to work towards and you'd whine about not being able to ever get that.
People play online where getting HR's are semi-easy, do they stop after a week or two?
I stopped about 1 week after building my light sorc this season.
With a game this old, when there's no goal to go towards, there's not a lot else to do... there's no new builds out there for me to try. I've played them all. Probably both twinked and untwinked.
No, they keep playing doing whatever, trying out new wacky builds, PvPing, Rushing, going to level 99 (another issue i have) MFing, doing countless other things to keep it interesting (HC ftw!)
That's kind of the point...
HRs are supposed to be one of those things.
How long does it take to hit 99? I'll give you a hint... Xey cubed an Infinity with runes no bigger than Gul, but never hit it. And not for lack of trying either, he's had multiple 98s.
And yet you complain about how difficult it is to get HRs, but list going to 99 as something to keep playing the game for?
If an item is introduced, you SHOULD be able to get it.
True.
And you can get it.
If you want it enough.
I couldn't fathom taking that much time for one item
Then why do you think you need it?
The game is perfectly playable without them.
In all the hours i've clocked on this game, I STILL haven't found anything higher than a Vex, even if I cube every single one of the runes i have EVER found, I still wouldn't have a legit Enigma.
I've never found anything higher than a Gul.
If you combined all the runes I've found, forge and pre-1.10 included, I think that ~Lo would be the highest rune I could cube. And I saw a Lo drop once, but 8 players in the throne, so I didn't get it. That doesn't put me in the Enigma range either.
However, I still consider the legit Enigma something I could easily get if I wanted to make it. I've just never had the inclination.
And games are suppose to be a weekend kinda thing, a game should NOT have to take over your life to just get something like a legit Auradin.
Again... why do you need an Auradin?
There is nothing preventing you from playing the game in any one of a number of other ways and enjoying it plenty in the process.
Why should there NOT be something for people who have significantly more free time than you to go after?
But I HATE how rare some stuff is.
So don't even worry about that stuff. There's no reason to. Do you sit around all day worrying that someone out there probably has a ring worth more than your house?
Edit: If you want something REALLY rare to worry your head about on b.net... try making a 2fpa bearsin ;)

You need like 10k forges
That's not counting that 10k forges =
10k meph runs
10k andy runs
10k durry runs
And, depending on who you're doing it for, either 10k NM baal runs or 10k hell D runs.
That's a LOT of trading for a LOT of ists/guls.
Not that I'd recommend doing it that way anyways... run whatever's most profitable and trade. It's quite doable.
You could do it more productively by rushing mules in Classic and not have to deal with the Ancients and Baal stuff. I quickly realized that this by far was the most boring thing i ever did!!!
I spent a bit of time doing this back in S2 and i could of probably made a LO with what I had gotten but I was getting alot of high forge rolls also.
If you want to do what is fun and simple like just playing the game, or the average Meph farming you may never get high runes but if you are willing to focus your efforts the right ways you can get them. If you focus those efforts and also MF and trade well you can get them also. Its all in what you do, if you concentrate on rolling Skillers and can farm the lvl 85 areas well and also make rune runes you can get them in a relative short period of time.........Now, I am not talking ZOD's here, or even maybe not even one ZOD but a JAH isnt out of reach if you focus on getting it.
People like myself and I think many others here get bored doing things repetitively so we may never attain those things unless we trade for them. Hell I think in both S1&2 I made (3) full accts of lvl 85+ builds and most of them hit 92+ and I had like 2-3in the 93-97 range and FYI, I NEVER rush my builds. Sure I did some repetitive stuff on the high levels but it was repetitive stuff with 7 other people chatting and having fun with the repetitive Baals. Hell.....I got enuff stuff from Baal Drops on my Sorc for Telein I could or traded and had high runes I just dont care to deal with trading usually and I would rather use what I find (make 3 accts of builds).
Fact is, if you REALLY want those runes you can get them and if you arent willing to put the time and work into getting them then you just need to accept that you wont have them.

I used to do forge rushing, but now I tend to just forget which mules have been rushed and which ones have forge or not; I just don't care as much anymore. I prefer the rare crappy +1 assassin claw I have on my untwinker now to the 1348 defense Archon Enigma I traded for last season. Meh.
That said, I'm considering doing some classic rushing to work up to an Ohm rune... make meself a Chaos, build my first-ever WW-sin!
...and I guess build my first Druid at some point, but that has little relevance to the runechat we're having.
You need like 10k forges to cube zod or something...... Rare is one thing, insanity is another. A perfectionist should be able to finish the game in a year or 2 completely (constant playing, of course), and that degree of rareness is beyond that of a perfectionist.
In two months of playing, I was already rich, so 2 years of playing, that's as bad as someone ebaying for a day in search of weapons and whatnot.
Well, if you genuinely want high runes and you put in the time and effort to focus on just that it IS possible.
Last Season I found a Legit Lo and a Legit Ber in Hell cows, though it did take me approximately 60 runs a day for a few months. Was actually hunting for mass gems and Charms when I found a Ber like 12 runs in and then started doing it hard core.
This required me to do next to nothing else online, and I would easily go a stretch of a week without finding anything better than a few vita scs. If I had spent the same hours MFing baal, I might not have ended up with the legit runes, but could easily (theoretically) have ended up with some "grail" pieces for my trouble.
You have to devote yourself to one thing and work for it if that's what you truly want. Nowadays online trading is such a large part of the game that you can focus entirely on baals or cows and get what else you need from what you find.
Cheers

Death works in swords / axes so it's all good ....
My new DEATH Phase Blade got 350 % Ed and max is 385 % so Im happy .... I went and chopped down Shenk and Eldritch in a test game and they fell like swiss cheese to a hot knife ...
A few more keys and I'll test it on the Ubers ....

When I said a perfectionist, I mean like one in single player RPG games, which means no trading what so ever as well. The absurd amount of forges is for cubing that few zods for items like BotD.
Even the fabled Zodiac Spear on average only takes 1000 tries to get (if you screwed up the unopenable chests), and there are already enough complaints about this in the FF forums......
i think that blizzard just went on too extremist of a route when designing those insane 1.10 runewords. with them being as ridiculously powerful as they are, its pretty hard to make them possible to legitimately obtain without making the game too easy.
however, if they were less powerful than they are now, a good balance would definitely be achievable. weaker runewords + easier to find high runes would work well and would make other, non-runeword armors/weapons more desirable aswell, improving the overall item system
gratz on the death runeword darkside, its one incredible tool! though i think a phase blade wasnt the best of options... the indestructibility mod of the runeword is a bit wasted in it

D2 was designed specifically for b.net.
It's single player is there just so that blizzard wouldn't be arbitrarily cutting itself off from that corner of the market when they really didn't have to.
Yea, I probably would have leaned towards an Eth Zerker but that's just me

I would have loved to put it in an Eth Zerker axe but I didnt have one laying around and I didnt feel like waiting on one . Besides this is on a fanatical Pally and the speed is awesome so it works good ..
