hello

I played way back b4 LOD but I did a few months of LOD.


I am making a sorc... back in the day Static/ORB sorcs ruled the realms... it seems not so much now.

Is that still a viable combination?

BTW I have NO gear.

If I do lighting what are the main damage dealing spells?

It is a viable combination however that combination would be much weaker than before, for since 1.10 (I think) with the addition of synergies you couldn't merely max out random skills and kick butt. And btw the main damage dealing spells for a lite sorc are either lightning or chain lightning.

here's some basic skill info (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/skills/basics.shtml). synergies is a short scroll down the page.

nowadays i think that the static/orber of yore is now meteor/orb although i prefer chain light/orb myself. due to frozen orb only having one synergy it is the skill most used by hybrid sorcs since it doesnt take many skill points to be effective.

1-point static is still a staple - it'll significantly speed up a battle against any act boss in the game. However, in NM difficulty it will only lower a monster to 25% life, and in hell difficulty it stops at 50%, so in both cases you'll need something that can finish the job.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, in older versions Cold Mastery would 'break' cold immunities. However, it does not anymore, which means you'll somehow need access to a second damage type in Hell difficulty - whether that's a mercenary, playing online/multi-player, or investing some points into a 'backup' skill - is up to you.

be sure to browse around arreat summit. you will definitly want to check out all the runewords that were added in 1.10 (if you havent already). particularly helpful to sorcs and hella cheap are 'spirit' and 'insight' imagine having a pally follow you around with level 14+ meditation aura. your merc can do that.
