View Full Version : Zon died....

So well...After leveling and getting some help from Glimmer, my zon died and I lost everything. Kind of depressing but I knew it was coming sooner or later.
Anywho...I made a FC druid as my first character and semi geared him up but he isn't as fun as I thought he would be. I made a summon necro, which was boring as well. When I made my zon and finally got it leveled up to around 55 before she died, I was having a blast. But now that I have no zon gear at all (I lost all of the gear on her, and I xfered gear off my druid and necro to give to her to make her better, lost all of my str and dex charms). Now i'm thinking I should probably just suck it up and make a sorc to mf with but i'm not sure what kind of sorc to make. I don't like blizzard, I was thinking maybe making a pure fire sorc, or maybe a orb sorc. But I don't want to have to worry about immunes. So maybe a fireball/meteor/orb sorc. But I have little to no gear at all for a sorc, not that it really matters but with sub par gear how am i going to perform?
***Side note to *Glimmer*** I really appriciate all of the help that you gave me, and i'm really sorry that i lost all the gear that you gave me. :undecided:  :embarassed: *I kept that really nice level 67 amazon circlet in my stash, so i'm unable to return that. But if/when i'm able to make another character and get it to 50+ I will be sure to repair you for everything the best I can. It will probably take me a while though....*
****ty deals man? What level she die at? and how'd she die?

Personly I've never been a big fan of zons for Hardcore as they generaly struggle with life/res/leach. This means you have to be on your "game" all the time since they are fragile.
Good luck rebuilding , dont let death bring you down. Have fun and keep playing
I suggest making a Orb/Firewall sorc to mf some stuff again. :afro:
Do it up right, enter a death cert. at the top sticky
I almost lost my zon last night actually . She's a Spear zon , using impale and fend. I was running through act5 bloody plains and there was a MASSIVE pile of those spear chuckiing cats , got me down to 1/3 life. Juv'd and cast slow missles. What a life saver. (they chewed through my decoy like nothing!)

Another one bites the dust.
It sucks to lose a character, especially one that is carrying most if not all your best gear.
If you are just MFing, then make an Orb/TK sorc. Immunities aren't an issue if you are porting straight to Andy/Mephy and whatever else you like to MF. You have teleport for a reason, to fly by like a chicken!
It kinda depends on who and where you want to MF. If just NM, you can build whatever you want to MF for a bit, then once you get a few basic pieces of gear, you can make another sorc for Hell.
And Zon's can be quite safe in HC, well, a non bowazon. D/A/E help alot, Built in tank with Valk, Decoy, and do I even need to mention a certain thread about a HC naked Guardian Zon?
How dare you insinuate that Zon's are wimps Sara.
Thems fighting words.
Anyway, it sucks to lose your main char, but the key is to take something from each character. Learn from your mistakes, mule often and you'll never find yourself in a situation where you have nothing.
I'll potentially pop on sometime tonight (that's right folks a toaster sighting) so look me up on *tai- on east, i can help ya out a bit and maybe start a relvling process.
Cheers

She died at level 55 or something right around that. I was running to Meph and I got trapped in a corner by a group of stygian dolls. I tryed to get around them, but was totally locked down. Started spamming juvs, and I was just about to save exit and my merc killed one and it popped and I died.

Toaster boy, Note I said "generaly" :P
Give up your spiffy shield, get a big two handed pokey stick. do not use d/a/e or a valk and pick the slowest attack in the game (impale) and let me know if you notice a difference in game trickery
that's what I'm working with at the moment. On the plus side, my damage is enough to make even a barb whine
on the fighting words, make a level 30-34 lld and join the charmless dueling and you can take a stab at me , Mwahahah!
I didnt want to make a new thread for this but tonight I'm going to be power leveling a new melee sorc. I'll have chant and will be rushing through the acts. Your welcome to join, more exp for all

I would love to tag along to level in a chant game and then get rushed to try and get my character leveled up as fast as possible. I work today until 5 pm cst and it takes me 30-45 minutes to get home. So I should be able to log in right around 5:30 cst. I'll definatly give you a pm.
As far as taking some gear for rebuild, as much as I would really enjoy gear to make my character better, I think maybe I better not? Just for fear of dying and losing your items. Which is what happened to my zon.

Wrong wrong wrong. The secret to building a strong untwinked HC character is to play it through the game. When you're questing you find items. Maybe only Magic or Rare items, but you find them and realize they are actually useful for your character, then you wear them and they make you stronger. Also when you quest through the game you get to know your character, what her strengths and weaknesses are, which skills work the best when, you become able to anticipate when it's time to run, and when it's safe to stay and fight, etc.
As well, questing nets you other things, like Life/Mana chrams, and Pgems for trading.
I'm not saying solo the entire game and do full clears, You can skip areas that are too boring or to hard for you (for example I loath the above ground areas in act 5 and often teleport/run through them). Feel free to quest with people (you trust), and get help when you need it to defeat a certain boss, etc. but please, don't skip entire difficulty's. All you will end up with is an under leveled, under geared character that you're not really skilled at playing, and shortly after that something "unlucky" will happen that you can't deal with and your character will be given their deeds certificate.
Only very lucky or very skilled HC players can start with nothing and be rich and powerful in a week. If you're hanging with the xbananax, and the diabloii.net crowd your hanging with the best of the best. Trying to keep up with them if you're new will be suicide. Learn all you can from them, but don't try and keep up with them. If you were a 16 year old high school student you wouldn't try to out drink a 40 year old man who was experienced at drinking... and if you tried I guarantee you would fail... same sort of thing.
Anyway, sorry for your loss, don't let it discourage you too much, there are many other fun times to come if you stick with HC, and remember! Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I agree with you 100%, but I hate questing through. I would much rather, enchant> rush > baal run. I would rather be level 65 with the starter gear, then level 30 with mediocre gear for my level. I am still a "newb" but I have now made 3 characters all of which have made it past 50. I have more fun from the game being a higher level. And i'm not going to be 100% untwinked. I have a few items that i'm going to put on my sorc, nothing like "hoto shako enigma ss etc etc" but i'm not going to use drops only. So in a sense i'm going to twink, but it's going to be a very poor man's twink, if that makes sense.

Sauce hit the nail right on the head, and I think I speak for every Banana-goer when I say that we're drunks and to never try to drink and play DII at the same time with us. You'll only have a messy keyboard, a dead character, and a possibe divorce. The only time you can ignore that rule is if Jim Beam sponsors another ironman. You must have a shot of Knob Creek every time you level. Man, that was fun. *Swig*

Dont scrap out your old guys use them!
That Necro (if still alive) may be a bit boring but he is a very sound MFer for a few things that can be gotten to quickly like the Council, Cowing (get you charms, gems, socketed gear...etc). Not sure if the Druid is good for MFin but even still he can be used for something. Remember, not all the good stuff is in Hell, a great deal of the good stuff is in NM......especially those Forges. Might be able to get some help getting those Hell Hell Forges from someone, a good drop there can replace a whole characters gear with "solid gear" not godly.
NM Cows on that Necro and even Pits (Hell) on him just might give you a reason to like him, if not at least he can die off trying to get you a few things instead of just collecting dust.
Play the game the way you must, but a very common reason of early deaths is simply rushing thru and not being prepared for what kills you....aka.....being 65 with noob gear on!

Can't agree more. And I've only been HCing for a couple months now.
Those NDEs early on let you know what to look for later. I got amped and then hit by a unique basket guy on the (NM) arreat plateau the other day and it took nearly all of my 1500 life. If that had happened for the first time in Hell, I'd be dead. Sometimes you just can't know what your weaknesses are until you're trapped in a corner... maybe with UndeadDolls exploding all around you. To have it happen first somewhere else in a less than deadly scenario can be eye opening.
If you're slow on the S/E, you can always try the Esc-Up-Enter. You can do that in, like, half a second and if you're working long days of order/data entry its second nature. It can save your arse.
Sole reason I'd never play HC. I'd go insane if I lost all my items. Really, I would....

Read up the link in my profile. It's the basic Orb/Teleport/TK sorceress which will do several things:
1) force you to play in a group (if you have no enchant) because you'll kill unusually slowly solo from level 1-24, making decent pace only around 24-29, and being able to kill efficiently at 30
2) give you a durable, theoretically very hard to kill character (excepting uncanny game lag that no functional non-immortal [i.e. high # and % physical damage reduced, high # magic damage reduced, max block, Guardian Angel overstacked resisting, quad-absorb, CTA-switch, supercharged Prayer, Insight-wielding walking Paladin] character can survive) that can MF Hell Mephisto incredibly efficiently
3) explain why FHR and FBR are important
4) teach you patience
5) provide reinforcement of why Colin(HP_Sauce)'s post is a basic tenet of how the vast majority of all superb HC players got to be superb HC players (read: experience and knowledge)

More often I find that the writers, once successful, are less concerned with the quality of their work. It's easier to go with what's been proven to work as opposed to new material. Another remake of the sequel to the movie based on the t.v. series....
And then you get shows that are too controversial to be on the air.
They're literally too funny for their own good.

My sorc is now level 26 and i'm in act 4. Still need to kill diablo and then do the ancients but it's going well. I have put points only in to vitality so far, I have 33 str (10 base + str items) and I have yet to assign any skill points, but I made a leaf rune word staff out of a staff that did +2 fireball, +2 warmth, + inferno. So it does now +3 fire skills, 2 fireball, 5 inferno, 5 warmth, 3 firebolt. It's pretty cool. I haven't decided if I want to go fire sorc or cold sorc, but we shall see. I wonder how long i'll be able to go without having to put any points in to str. If I can get my hands on about 6 P Amethyst, I shouldn't have to put any points in STR for a while :-)

You will need invested STR and usually getting enuff for a Breast Plate in Norm to add a Stealth armor is very acceptable. Hard investment into a Viper armor is usually acceptable also, 65 ish around Viper lvl isnt going to waste points. In the end your biggest stat is Dex for block and many of your items should be focused towards helping you with your Dex. IMO Max block is not needed until either Hell, or until you decide you want to blindly tele around like you have max block!
In general I get my Strength for Viper, Dex for Wizzy (or close) and then try to cover a great deal of that in gear later with things like Tals Belt, Walks, rings and ammy and then invest dex after that. IIRC my standard Sorc items do a very good job of getting me very close to max block with Wizzy/Viper/Whit at 80 or so and then its just a matter of adding Dex as needed after that to keep it.

I had the same concern for a few minutes, but pixels is just as valid as bits, bytes, 1s and 0s, items, skills, words, pictures, etc.
What the player is looking at is the representation and performance of their long sought after and entirely too precious items which, when displayed on the monitor, appear as pixels. The pixels are there regardless, but it's the particular represnetation of colours (in the form of text and pictures of items) displayed by those pixels which gives so many people that D2 woody.

Thank you everyone for the "pick me up" responses and the comments on my sorc. The more I play her the more I realize my goal of putting 0 hardpoints in to str and still being able to play her well, are slowly slipping. I think as it stands right now my gear is as follows :
1 P amethyst helm (one open socket still)
Leaf staff (decent skills I think)
Stealth hard leather armor
Night smoke belt
Sanders boots
+1 str gloves
2 x 10% FCR rings
10% FCR ammy, at 27 I am going to change to a +1 sorc skill +45 life ammy and if I go fire (which i'm still not sure of at the moment) at 30 I have a +2 fire skills ammy with + resistance and +life I think.
I don't have access to enough P amethyst at the moment to make the appropriate STR gear. And when I thought of my idea to go no hardpoints in STR. I really forgot about how it requierd me to get a rush from norm a1 to hell a5, and powerleveling until 75, which would then require me to equip godly gear such as enigma, shako, and so on. So I think now it is just a dream for the future, maybe when I get the said "godly" gear I can always remake and attempt, but at this point, it's really not going to happen lol.
I plan on playing tonight around 5:45 pm CST if anyone is interested in killing Diablo in normal, the ancients, and then doing norm baal runs. Also as far as getting a viper magi, wizzy, and mosers. I have a Jalas mane, ethereal homunc shield and that's about it as far as items of "value' but whenever I go in to the HC trade chan, no one is ever talking. So i'm probably going to have to use "crap" gear until i'm able to MF NM meph over and over and over and hope to get a decent drop. But everyone has to start somewhere :-P

The only thing that keeps me from dedicating my sorc to cold. Is I know that it's probably the safest but when I do the skill calc, fire out damages cold by ~10k. That's so insane. And I was told that cold mastery can no longer break cold immune monsters. When it comes down to it all i'm really doing is compairing 20k damage meteor to 4.5k damage bliz and 8k dmg fireball to 2.5k dmg ice blast. *shrug* Probably noob logic :-P

Noob logic. Wonder why there are so few pure fire sorcs out there ?? Safety (slow) and piercing (-res) benefits of cold tend to make it more appealing.
Arbitrary numbers:
Pleasantly synergized fire damage vs Mephisto: 20000 x .25 = 5000
Orb damage is per shard; of which (depending on who you ask) 2 waves of 12-16 travel per orb. So be conservative, say you're landing 12 shards of 350 dmg per shard a hit and have -150 res cold mastery: 12x350= 4200 x mephres(-150 res + 75 res = -75% or multiplier of 1.75) 1.75 = 7350
..and you don't even need a synergy to do that damage.

I'm guessing that pure fire is a pure pvp spec? Those big numbers just looks so good. Maybe i'll go either meteorb or orbfirewall. Those both look pretty fun :-)
Just go Orb/TK and go ballistic, save the hybrids for when you have the gear to make them work well as they usually call for no ES/TK thus you want high D and other stuff to make up for it. An MFer needs to be an indestructable MFin machine....teleport thru hell without BO and live....Max Orb/ES/TK/CM then add whatever and go nutz.
Many people make the mistake of making one Sorc and trying to do everything. Sorcs are a dime a dozen and dead simple to make thus very easy to have 2-3 of them to do different things. (1) dedicated MF is one key thing that helps many people laugh at character deaths as they know they can go get more gear right away! I usually always have (2) when I am playing in a dedicated matter, one for MF and one to tele Baals and have fun with in general. Now my MFer (blizz) can always go do other things if I want.
If you have gear to toss on a sorc making new ones is simple!!! Hell making almost anything is.....
