just wondering if upgrading perfect gore riders are worth it in terms of value.

I don't really upgrade items a lot, but i've read that when you upgrade items you are rerolling the defense, so the item could have a lower defense than before the upgrade.

Thus, do you think it's worth it?

There's a market for gores with very high defense. Some people will pay several high runes. Yes, the base defense is rerolled, so there will be some variance, but I think it's worth the chance.

Very few items can actually get a lower defense, although quite a few can roll new defenses with only marginal improvements (which is about as bad).

If you are upping an armor (weapons are another matter) based purely on the increased defense then you should calculate the range you may get and judge whether or not you think the risk is worth it. However, if you are upping it for another reason like increased kick damage from upped gores or increased smite damage from upped hoz, well then it's definately worth it, regardless of the defense outcome.

War Boots have 43-53 defense.
Gore Riders have 160-200% ED and regular unique items always have max defense +1. The range is 140-162 depending on ED, so your gores should be 54x3=162 defense. Keep in mind that you always round down when doing these calculations.

Myrmidon Greaves have 62-71 defense and if upped gore riders will randomly pick a value from that range. It is no longer max base +1. As a result, your new gore riders with perfect ED would range from 186 defense to 213 defense, depending on your roll. So basically just ask yourself why you're upping it (i.e. Are you a kicker, do you just want some more defense, or are you gambling on a higher trade value?) and then if it's worth it to you (i.e. Do you have the currency to spare and is the gain worth the risk?). You may get a 14.8% increase in defense or you may get a 31.48% increase in defense. If you are a kicker then you get even more benefit in terms of damage. In the end, it's your decision on the worth of doing it, since it is a gamble.

I have a newbie question: I have never heard of the term kicker before and am wondering what it means. Thanks.

A kicker is an assassin that uses Dragon Talon (the move where she kicks very rapidly).

if you get a perfect roll the value goes up hugely, most of the times though perf nonupped will be more worth. It's a gamble, mine are antiperf 200% upped

If you get 213 def upped gores they're worth 5-10x more than regular perf gores. If you get an absolutely bad roll they're worth far less. Basically, you're shooting for 210+ def, otherwise their value stays the same, if not decreases.

If your not going to sell them, I'd keep them and put them on a char non-upped. Unless your str req is already there. BUt if not I wouldn't.

Keep it 'till just before ladder resets, then upgrade it, then sell it on nonladder.

They are REALLY pricy on nl.
