View Full Version : Why do p-gems remain viable for trading?
Reading through the forums here, I am surprised to see so many people have such godly equipment and at the same time are willing to trade it for such a humble commodity as p-gems. Why is that?
Is it for rerolling charms? Or is there something else that sparks a desire for an item you'd think the ubers would already be rolling in anyway?

Mostly for rerolling charms, but also for crafting.
Since the gems are used up in these actions, there is a constant need for more.
crafters use mostly p ruby and amethysts in large quantities along with junk jewels and low runes
rerollers use all types including skulls
save them up and trade them in bulk 40 ral + 40 p amethyst+ 40 junk jewels + 2+mil gold = :greedy: :greedy:

People don't trade godly items for pgs, unless you consider items worth a few ists as godly.
Gems are also needed in upgrading and socketing eth armors for more defense.
They have so many uses that you can't possibly have too many.

I find it strange that pgems are valued as much as they are. All of my characters find the equivalent of around 80 pgems on a single-pass full clear of the game. One would think that everyone would find the gems they need, whether they MF, level up or quest.
Over all the years I have been playing, I have never seen an ist rune. :sad2:

You just need to consider the timescales involved and how much time you physically spend playing Diablo.
Most people don't have the time to collect flawless and perfect gems and lack space in their stashes. Think, when you're MFing and have the choice between collecting a flawless diamond, or an interesting unique, you'll got with the unique every time.
That's why there is a useful niche market for Pgem trading.
Also, don't underestimate how many Pgems the average crafter will get through! Baal GCs (the charms with the chance to get high life mods) can take hundreds of rolls before they turn into something good. The first charm I re-rolled this season had 150+ Pgems used on it before I gave up
In conclusion: collect those Pgems, they're a steady route to wealth.
This has been a lukefojut production....
Thanks for the feedback, all. I forgot about their use in ethereal armors. And I didn't think that people might roll a charm 50 or 100 times, but I can see how they might as well try.

Most people only reroll grand charms trying to get a +1 skill tree prefix with the +vita suffix. Some people reroll small charms trying to get 3/20/20's or +5 resist all/2nd mod.
