View Full Version : KTA - Team SPEED - starting now!
so hi all,
as announced here our new KTA thread, where we begin a new KTA round and quest to finish the game again.
the theme of this round will be SPEED
and with that we do not mean characters that can move around very fast (aldough they are free to do so if they can), no we mean we hit very fast! so the aim of the team is to get as many hits in, in as short a timeframe as possible. in the case of this team and hitting things... its all about kwantity, forget kwality. hitting hard is not important, its hitting as often as possible that counts! :grin:
a few suggestions of the type of builds very well suited to this kind of play: any zealot, a kicksin, frenzybarb, WW barb, furywolf, blade fury sin, strafer, fendazon/jabbazon. also, not inmediatly banned from play could be a bone necro or fire ball sorc with tons of FCR. but i ask you all to be creative, suggest and play whatever build you think fits the theme well.
theme specific rules:
- aim for as much IAS or FCR as possible, when choosing between more dmg or more hits...the obvious choise is more hits, even if that means (slightly) less total damage output
- timered spells or skills are totaly banned!
so... starting up:
i suggest everyone willing to join in this round states so in this thread, also stating what type of build they would be going for. of cource current members have first priority, then come old KTA members... but if there is space left over anyone is free to join the ranks as long as they play the KTA style.
for those who dont know us (well) the rules of KTA, as we play:
- Hardcore
- EU realm
- UNtwinked
- from act 1 normal to act 5 hell (if we make it) using no boosting, and playing the game as the makers intended it to be played.
- we are all nice people, no swearing, offensive talk, etc. etc. no noobish behavior.
- and the moost important rule of m all.... we have fun... TONS of fun!
our motto for this round will be: SLAP 'm SILLY and i am allready looking forward to seeing baal in his throne room being hit over 30 times a second :thumbsup:

It's a weekly sitting on Monday evening. (that would make it like Tuesday early in the AM for you I guess)
Which gets me thinking by the way... Isn't there going to be a shift for either the islanders or the mainlanders when daylight saving changes are going to take place somewhere soon?
dont we have daylight saving time in all of europe then?
our normal playing times are monday evenings from 20:00 till 22:00 and that is paris/amsterdam time.

guys... i need your help on deciding a build... i am thinking severly on going the smite route... and first i was thinking to make it with an elemental dmg aura... but according to the areath summit that wont work. so i am now thinking of a fana smiter... will that be any good? (it will be fast... with a good weapon... actualy just a fast weapon... i should be able to hit at 6 frames) (max smite, max holy shield, max fana, rest of the points could be used for a 2th attack skill... but actualy i dont want that... i want full out smite... but for that it will have to work)
But... how in hell can smite be of any use PvM Untwinked? (lets assume we wont find to much crushing blow gear) the dmg will be pretty poor to say the least... and no way to improve it that i can find... suggestions?
same goes for survivability... cant steal life OR mana... so how to stay alive?
need your suggestions and help with this guys!

cb no problem, crafting + runeword + uniques. Thing is if your going smite I wont go kicker.
Ivan: you should try a fury wolf... they are pretty fast :thumbsup:

hmm... that need for CB is kinda true.
however: i have tested Smite a bit more on my current pala... and i have to say... even in the 10 minuts i played it, it already got boring as hell. so with that i have decided against my plan for a smiter.
you can go the kicker build... aldough i DO like the plan for the novatank... sounds funny, effective and original. i would love to see one of those in the team! it your choise... make it your call.
then for my build... atm i am leaning heavily towards a wirlwind barb. its been ages since i played one of those... but i remember them to be lots of fun. the only other option i have left that apeals me atm is a fendazon... but i hate the bugs involved with that build and the fact that if you want it to work probably you can't use dodge, evade etc. and will never get a valk. so for the moment i am aasigning myselve the WW Barb... and his name will be KTA-WindMill :grin:
i am doing some studying on wether he will be 1 or 2 handed etc, but there is no hurry there. (might even do both on the 2 switches) BO will be included for sure!
last thing... as for naming our caracters: lets use - instead of _ i think it looks much prettyer with the minus sign.

as for my build: i have decided on a WW-Barb. with a 1 hander, a shield, max block... so a good tank. i will be going for a 4 frame WW for sure.
as for the other builds... i think the team is forming up nicely, what i miss so far is a zeal pala. specialy a cold 1 could be of much use in the defensive way... otherwise a fana 1 sounds good as for IAS. light zeal aint a good choise since we have light dmg already bu no other elements.
then for the record... i will be away from tomorrow till sunday evening... so cant poost for some days.

I have been moving house as said before so i missed out on the start of the thread! Wanted that Fury Wolf spot Ivan! Oh well...i'm defo up for taking a Paladin as my second choice...which one will you guys prefer...Fanaticism or Frost Zealot?
Still no luck with my damn internet...all the lines work in my house, just waiting for the damn router so i can set it up! SKY Broadband told me it would take (worst case scenario) 15 days to show up (from Tuesday's install!) My bro (who has it) told me it takes about a week for them to post it...probably just intime to miss the first installment of the new KTA session!
At this stage (especially with my new extended playtime!) it will be easy to catch up so just let me know what we need more from my Paladin as described above to round the party off and i'll make him! I'm thinking as we are untwinked we could do with the Fanaticism so we all have crazy speed but we do need some elemental damage..votes in people...then i'll make him...KTA-Librasulus either way...

as for IAS from FANA... i am not sure about that... there are quite a few characters that wont be benefitting from it. Wirlwindspeed aint affected by it, neither is blade fury trowing speed. Nova needs no IAS but FCR so for that its useless as well. that leaves the strafer, who should be able to reach good speed even without fana (aldough it WILL help), and the furywolf of wich i have no idea.
actualy i feel that another element, and the safety of a BIG USE slow from holy freeze would benifit us more. Holy freeze from a pala team member is like 100 times more effective then the one from a merc. not only is it a MUCH higher lvl, also that way you make sure that the aura is where its supposed to be (in the frontline) instead of lost, stuck, fallen behind or just dead or missing.
just gimme your 2 cents all!

But safety first imho... If we're all dead before we can even hope to achieve high hit speeds it won't be much fun at all now will it? :D

If I'll make it, Jab or Fend sounds nice, but isn't fend like.. slow? (last I tried it was back in classic, with a pike... go figure).

it seems to me we are complete... IF masa can get a cd, we will need a conformation on that asap m8, but for now your spot is reserved. and IF Squiggle homes into this thread again and can affirm that he is in (AND conforms he intends to play moost evenings... dedication is needed, as is for all other players of cource)
i think we could accept a 9th player... as it seems very rare to have all 8 show up. however this "extra" spot (reserve as you could call it) would have to accept that he can't play if all others show.
about builds: for me its frosty zealot over fana zealot any day in this party... i think making a couple of us hit 1 frame faster (that is what fana would do) cant compare to making them (the monsters) hit over 50% slower. besides... we WILL need some elemental dmg or we will have HUGE problems with phys immumes.
then about fend... with good ias it aint slow at all... i think attack speeds can be compared to wirlwind or zeal. thing about it is that there is this bug with the defensive skills of the ama... you know the d/e/a skills. there is a good guide in the ama forum on this.. go read it.
i might log into this thread again later tonight... else it will be sunday evening at earlyest. please keep the above list updated and organise all that needs to be done.

i think we have 7 confirmed players at the moment, and 2 possible numer 8s. however: squiggle joining seems very unlikely to me, not only because he hasnt replyed still, but also because of his location. ZRK joining is more likely, even dough he didnt answer in this thread... we will just see if he shows tomorrow evening.
so chances are that we have already 8 people signed up. BUT we always said that we could take a total of 9 players... 1 of those being reserve (since it is a rarity to have all 8 turn up, the reserve should be able to play moost of the time. we have done this before, and only 1 time the reserve couldnt play... the system works very well)
so in that case, you are more then welcome to join us comming monday, just be there at 20:00 (paris time) in channel KTA.
about the winddruid... i dunno if you have red this entire thread, but i am not sure if it fits the theme very well. i would like your, and everyones, opinion on this.

Well, depens if we take wind speeds into account. I mean, tornado and hurricane are wellknown for high wind speeds ;)
To me windy druid does not seem to be the best choice theme-wise, however.

tartanasia - if they've expired you've either not permed a new character through two hours of playing. I take it that's what you mean? I think for chars that are already permed is it 60 days after 30 days non-use. I cannot remember.

Well as I said in the other thread, I won´t make it tonight, but I could go for a fana zealot. Pretty much capable of doing everything on his own and I know a least something about that char. Multishot or Strafe Ama would be a lot of fun aswell, but as I never played one before I would have to do some research first. :rolleyes:
Anyway, good luck tonight, let me know about the outcome and I´ll try to come up with a char at the same level next week.

Alrighy then,
yesterday was a good Diablo night.
After some time to get acquainted with eachother and waiting for everybody to show up (zrk is in as well, plays a thrower barb called KTA-TomatoToss iirc) we got gamin'.
Things were a little rough around the edges as was to be expected, but we managed to steamroll through A1 and the Lut Gholein sewers with only one NDE as Ivan all of a sudden seemed to try and replay his pally jail lvl 2 deeds from last round :badteeth:.
We're around lvl 18, having just finisched A2 sewers and are ready to ravage Act2 and hopefully part of A3 next week. Can't wait for strafe :)

i sure did have a good evening yesterday, good progress and lots of fun.
we did finish act 1 indeed, and after that found time to kill radament as well in act 2. then, since moost were lvl 17 at that moment and badly wanted lvl 18 for new skills, we did some killing in those deserts and found next wp.
was good fun, and i am already looking forward to next week
i hope anyone left behing at this point is able to catch up soon enough, as a full team next week should be even more fun!

Those that missed yesterday can easily make it up for next week. It will be good to have a full party. I'll go easy with the cloak of shadows although there were no objections. Those archers in the jail do hurt if there's enough of them.
Anyway, got my spinnywiz skill now so I'm happy. Going to need a big ethereal weapon now to deal out some ninja style spinny blades of death etc...

Heheheh, good name! I planned out a whole skill point allocation with every point you can get (not that we will get that far but hey!) for a Frost Zealot so if you wanted to i can email it to you dude as a reference but i'm sure you won't need it!

I'll go pure Fury and a bit of Feral for attack, no need for backup skill to counter Physical Immunes as you lot can handle them! Oak for sure eh guys? Hmmm...good point dude, thinking ranged merc for me then, either Act 1 Fire or Act 3 Fire as i will eventually have a big furry tank so i don't need a Barb or Desert Merc really...Tika should have Might as he's the big bad barb and we don't need Holy Freeze as Ivan will be fufilling that role better than a merc can! If no one has any objection i might kick it with Act 3 unless we need to fill a gap...

I called SKY Broadband to confirm my order (and the 8 meg connection for 5 notes!) and they tested the line and said it would suport up to 8 meg which is nice, but it won't be activated until Thursday the 25th and even then they said with the high volume of **** going on it will take an extra 3 working days!
Luckily, i had an engaging chat with the lady on the other end of the phone about online gaming and she told me she would put a note on my account to get it ready for Monday's session!! :laughing:
Fingers, toes, balls (ouch!) and everything that can be crossed is being crossed that it will work as of Thurs/Friday as the lady told me there is every possibility it might...i hate hanging on 50/50's but hey...it's worth the wait! At the very least, my mate is coming to set it all up for me tonight ready for Thursday if the line goes active as i am a lazy git!

yeh was a good night. didnt get to know anyone too well. Didnt really get involoved with all the talk about doing eastern european girls but meh. Hopefully i can get nova going when we have insight in nightmare.
the talking stuff about girls and all that wasnt actualy my cup of T as well.
about your mana problems: it wont be all that long before BO will come in the game... that should help a lot as well. a big mana pool from BO, a few points in warmth and later on an insight should make it work.
and MrKaxe: i am truly hoping you can make it!
MrKaxe: If for some reason the connection is not yet up when the weekend arrives let me know on Friday (assuming you work on Friday), I can create a druid and lvl him up to about 18 on Sunday morning so you can still join the game on Monday if the connection permits it.

Please forgive my (usual) ignorance here. I've got myself all worked up over time differences. In the UK the clocks go back 1 hour this weekend. Does DST apply to our friends in Holland and Sweden (well the rest of Europe but I was thinking of Tika, Masha and Oompie) ?
If it does not then I'm stuffed as it would be a 6.00pm start time in the UK instead of a normal 7.00pm.
Please tell me that I am being a numpty and not to worry.

That is a plan Batman! My lazy-*** mate didn't come round last night to help me but no biggie...i need to sort out my 'Den' anyway where the computer will sit! That will be done @ close of business tonight so tomorrow at 7pm i will try to open a web browser and see what happens!
If it doesn't work i will test it Friday lunchtime, if it still doesn't work i will test it @ 7pm (when SKY recommend to test!) and post the results here from one of my mate's computers! If i am connected then I will tank the levelling over the weekend if ready for Monday, if i'm not connected then go ahead with the plan oOmpie although i'm not sure of the in's n' out's of how to transfer the character to me unless you make him on my account or make a whole new KTA account for me...which is also a good idea!

I'd appreciate that dude, will get me up n running quicker and no fear of pk's as we can go private or a deserted muleperming game! I worked out a full point distribution (+ all utility skills except Meditation as we are not desperate for mana, just in need!) all the way to 99...i'll grab it when i go home tonight and the stat thing is roughly like this:
Strength should be got to 70 as quickly as possible as you won't really need to add more to it until mid-Nightmare and with Vit and Dex i like to tandem the point allocation...at first, Vit will be more of a priority, then Dex and when you get Holy Shield you can even let Dex input drop a little bit and let the carry of HS' bonuses get you by until you really need to add Dex to keep the block % up...as i will be running Oak and BO will be around, if you have a decent shield then you can Dex it up!
Bit vague i know but it's all about personal taste! :tongue:

our monday evening session was very enjoyable and i can really feel a good vibe in this party, speed works well together it seems. cool chars aswell, nothing overpowering, seems like everyone would add a bit of their own smack into the party and together we would rule.
throwing is great fun too, slight mana problems atm as expected early in the game but its a real bomb otherwise.
i do think that perhaps fanaticism wouldve been a better choice for you krazeyivan due to the overall speed nature of the party but meh your choice man, as long as we are all playing chars we enjoy it will be great :thumbsup:
just hope we will all find the weapons necessary to make our builds rock (they are almost all quite item dependant unfortunately :shocked: )

OK guys, the internet didn't work last night when i set it up and switched it on even though the light was on saying there was a line...but i did make a grave error (it was late, shoot me!)...my old wireless internet IP settings were assigned to the connection so i will change it when i get home to see if it assigns one for itself and if it works i will spend all weekend getting ready for Monday...if i can't make it work i will go to a mate's house and let oOmpie have the go-ahead to get me ready for Monday when it should work!

Good news MrKaxe! and i am very happy to hear it.
about those CB items... you sure got it right that those will be in high demand. the gloves crafting seems a real good idea from that point of vieuw, and i believe there are a few cheap runewords that would give a bit CB as well. chances are we will find 1 (or more) rattlecages, or some of the cheapish boots as well... all in all i think there will be quite some CB in the party once we enter hell, and with sooooo many hits landing everywhere its bound to go off more then we can count.

Big thanks go to zrk and oOmpie (where were ya Ivan?! :tongue: ) for helping me level up my wolfie this weekend, he is now level 18 with an Act 1 merc as when i get into Act3 i want a Fire Iron Wolf Mage just for the hell of it...as we have less paladins this time we might be an aura down so i can fill the slot with an Act 2 aura (Thorns maybe?) if necessary...just let me know!
Feral Rage is a one point lifesaver as i now have faster run/walk, huge life leech and slightly better damage! I took the liberty of securing a Cube (and the Halls waypoint so we can fast track from there tonight!) as i was swamped in chippies and needed the space!
I have pumped 5 points into Oak Sage early as the life bonus is substantial to carry us through (with BO) until i max my wolfie skills and can then max Oak.
OK, garbled excitable ramblings over, thats me ready for tonight! Cya in channel at 7pm UK!

Aha cool! I have cubed most of them to flawed and socketed a few (2-sok Splint Mail armour with a flawed ruby and flawed diamond, Wolf Pelt has 2x flawed rubies and a Large Axe with flawed skull, emerald and sapphire as it's a very fast attack speed weapon!) but yeah, the rest can go on the mule at the start of the run as we are in normal i'll drop em and you can bring mule in...thanks for taking the Gem Mule duty!

Not a good day yesterday - I had 2 deeds (obviously non KTA) - my wind druid/nice stuff mule died just before getting hurricane..... stupid little dudes with big knifes mobbed him - not amused, my mouse froze at just the right second too
And a mule that carried most of my set items - bit the dust, went through a portal - zap gone. Not a clue what happened there....... :-(
Quite enraged at this point my fire sorc (still normal Lvl 25) destroyed Act 3 many times, the Flayer Jungle - got wiped off the map first everytime!

Heh Ivan, I lost my PartyBoomer yesterday as well.
I was trying to get him to A2 Hell when a fricking lagburst got me, ofcourse that happened AFTER I had loaded him up because he needed the extra gear to stay alive at all, since his summons were still very weak... :'(

I've been following earlier KTA group threads so that shouldn't pose a problem. Like I said playing in this kind of tight knit group is what I'm looking forward to.
I was under the impression that my char suggestions were rather speedy. Not as much as a zealot, strafer etc but in the same league as nova sorc, smiter and others that have been mentioned in this thread. Frostmaiden and especially firebear require a fast weapon of course, which I realise will be in high demand.
Suggestions?

Yeah any build you feel happy with is fine - we are a bit light on the elemental side - just my holy freeze - at the moment.
A few have been make noises about fanaticism being missing... ;-)
We are all going to have to get lucky weapon wise - but we seem to be rolling along quite well.
so yesterday evening it was time to play again!
we met in channel and soon enough we started a game and started killing stuff... with good speed of cource. then however... not even being in the game for 5 minuts the lag beast kicked in... first with a few dropouts, but within a few minuts our entire game got killed and all kicked out. for the next 15 minuts or so we tryed making a new game... but the failed to join bug made this impossible. just when we were getting very annoyed and started thinking about what to do our KTA gem mule found out that he could create.. so another 5 minuts later we were all in that game again and ready for battle. well... by all i mean the 6 of us... we havent seen our sorc. neither do i know if any other members were missing?
we managed act 2 without to mane problems... except for 1. i think it was somewhere in Tals Tomb that all off a sudden MrKaxe toke HUGE damage. so much actualy that it caused him to shake off his wolf form and run away as a human... with just 1 hitpoint left. a real quick purple, good reactions and a bit of luck to not be hit just at that time saved the day. of cource we toke our revenge on duriel... who toke some time to get into... but once the fast hitting got going things were out of control for the big maggot.
we ran into act 3, got an eye and an hart, a gidbin and a jade figure and 2 waypoints (spider and flayer), having completely evaded the march (aldough noone seems to miss it :grin:
we ended the session bieng lvl 23 or 24 (not sure now).
Nest: we seem to have at least 1 spot available, so you are more then welcome to join the speedy ranks. about your character choise: i think i was a bit confused yesterday, as i now know what you mean. i think some elemental attack would be our best bet, as we lack that severly.. (we only have cold so far, and light if our nova sorc is around). maybe a nice suggestion could be a super fast cast fire ball sorc? with as secondary skill a bit of enchant? (that would be HUGELY effective, seeing the huge number of hits we are looking at)
i had a great evening, despite of the lag.

well... i think that once in hell we will be getting a pretty hard time. not so much with surviving, as we will have both BO and OAK and plenty of good tanks... but with killing. why you ask? i think because moost of our builds are pretty weapon dependent, and chances of finding decent hell proof weapons aint all that good. second reason is the abundance of physical dmg, but the great lack in anything else.
enchant would solve the dmg type problem, help the total dmg output a lot and help greatly with AR issues. a combination with some CB in gear should be able to get us true hell.
not even a fully synergised enchant could make all the difference, since even a few hundred extra fire dmg per hit counts when you hit as much as we do. and since a fire sorc has fire mastery maxxed anyway, it should be decent with only 20 points in it and forget the synergy.
conclusion: a fire sorc with 20 fire ball, 20 fire mastery, 20 enchant and the rest in other fireball synergies would be a GREAT addition.
I had 2 instances of huge damage Tika!
I was using the Horadric Staff post making it in Act 2 due to the 50% IAS so when i put it in the orifice (heh :tongue: ) i had no weapon...quick TP, halfway to stash i get 'Quick!' messages flash up so i grab my axe and run back into the TP that was put up in the chamber only to find half my life gone as i step through as i stepped onto Duriel's head! He got a few jabs in but i managed to run away and recast everything (he took out my wolf buddy as i retreated!)
The worst NDE was when i charged into Szarzak the Burning's group (in the Spider Cavern on the quest for the Eye in Act 3) to Rabies the huge mob of monsters then start Feral Raging on their asses when i immediately got cursed by him and hit by him and two of his minions either side of him...i swear i must of had one life left!
All in all a good session and I hope we get to level 30 soon as lvl 24 skills holds no joy for me as i have none i need to use there! A big furry tank and a hella fast attack await me...
P.S. Hi Nest! As Tika said, a pure Fireball/Enchant sorc would be great! By all means max the Meteor synergy but if you so much as use it once...

i feel the same about my lvl 30 skills... at the moment i am doing little but leaching of you guys and pretending to hit something. well.. i DO hit some stuff.. since my AR is quite good... but dmg is quite another thing.
btw... i doubt my dmg would improve much with WW... but at least i hit much and start to look cool :afro:

I'm leaning toward a firebear atm, which would add another tank, three distracting wolves, strong fire damage (the weapon only needs to be fast, I can ignore physical damage stats. "Steel" in a cutlass should be plenty for hell) and another aura for attack rating and ed% for the rest of the team. The attack rating bonus is about 3/4 that of enchant at lvl 20, in combination with blessed aim that should net a comparable result.
I might also get shockwave instead of wolverine for massive stun duration. Or a backup oak sage maybe...
Will probably also start the fire sorc that you all crave and find out how it feels, then decide which char I'll bring on monday.
As for blade fury, I remember that all elemental damage is applied at a penalty, 3/4 iirc.
Are there still any merc auras missing? I could use a defiance guy.
I may be on tonight, message me *Blum7 if you want to play. Don't have a char running yet though.

well.. aldough the fire/enchant sorc sounds pretty nice... you make the fire claw bear sound realy good as well. the extra aura is pretty good to have.. and in a way can be compared to enchant. and more tanks etc will NEVER hurt.
make it your choise... you gotta play him!

Thanks for that oOmpie. Looks a bit sad really! Never mind, the quality of the gems are getting better each session. We'll soon be crafting and re-rolling before we know it.
Look forward to the rune stash, I've got a 2os Pike so if there's a spare Tir El going that would see me through to Act5 quite nicely and 50% open wounds is a nice thing to have (not that I need the 25%IAS)!
I've been looking at the 1handed, 2handed debate for BF and from what I've shopped 1 handed in Act3, nothing can match the killing goodness of my pike.
Hmm...guess i shall have to wait and see what drops in the next session to socket my axe (kindly donated by drinkturps, cheers dude!) seeing as we don't have an extensive gem collection yet...the PMH on that axe should be useful for bosses at this stage as we don't have any CB, OW or DS but if Meph is kind we could get some low sets/uniques or even a decent rare or two next session! At least i will run him afterwards 'til I do!
well.. i think that seing the builds we are having in the current party, many being item dependant, that a few actions might be needed to keep us going once we get a bit further. with this i think of gambling, shopping, crafting, rerolling and probably some MFing as well. we could use the first part of a monday evening session for this, or we could even make seperate dedicated appointments for doing this.
i think that if we dont do quite a bit of the above that the game with catch us sooner or later.
dont get me wrong: i dont suggest to make this party completely twinked or whatever and i stick to the NO muling in items found by non session members. however... just a few dozen of NM andy/meph runs should set us up just that little bit better.
Sounds like a good idea Tika, when we hit NM Andy MF her a few times, then move onto Meph rinse and repeat...when we get to Hell if we are desperate (like 2 or 3 sessions back) we can mule in at least a weapon (think waflob's Drummer Barb) if it's that dire but let's hope we get good drops instead...bring on the Ribby for me!!!
I got KTA-Bearbecue up and running at lvl 23.
I take it from the sound of the discussion that rerunning and MFing are alright. I already paid some visits to andy and the countess, which didnt drop a lot of items.. a couple rare rings and jewels.. but i collected some of each rune up to Tal and one Ral and loads of chipped gems, even two perfects thanks to gem shrines.
drinkturps: Tir-El won't work in a pike, swords/axes/maces only according to summit. Just relax in the knowledge that every ethereal weapon we ever find is yours ;)
Can't wait for the real game on monday, but so far MFing sure has been fun after my long D2 abstinence.

individual MFing outside official KTA session is of cource allowed... as long as it doesnt lead to 150.001 mephruns and with that a completely decked out character with tip top gear.
what i was suggesting is to organise this a little bit, so to do it in small groups and a bit more then usual since we will be VERY item dependant.
However: we should only start doing this when we start getting a hard time... as a.t.m. its still easy going... and when we upp our gear to much now easy going will be transferred into no excitement at all and a complete walktrue.

I notice that Hellgate: London has been released. I think I'll buy it on the way home and check it out over a few glasses of sauvignon blanc this evening. Was not bowled over by the demo and the reviews seemed mixed. But hey it's got stats, skills, guns, monsters and a manual inventory.

we were with 6 guys, and started around lvl 23 all in flayerjungle. we moved on, killed the council and then mephy. izzy was kind of a boring fight... as he couldnt barely move at all being slowed and hit over a dozen times a second. he did have HUGE life however.. and without any CB or static (our sorc was missing... where was she btw?) it toke some slapping to get the job done. we pregressed with 6 HF runs and finaly toke down diablo. so the start of next session is act 5, all being around lvl 28 now.
halfway our HF runs Yaf came in as well, and i boosted him quickly true act 3 with my sorc. he then forgot to walk true the portal by mephy and decided to try and run to the portal once again (i already got my sorc switched for my barb). despite the fact that i said him that it would be dangerous he did go ahead... and deeds.. :sad2:
he will rebuild however, and hopefully he will be ready for next week.
as for drops it was pretty useless stuff i can remember.
well.. i really gtg now, please add stuff i missed .

I nearly died 2-dozen times!!
Kept getting left behind while cleaning up mobs and just off-screen above where the battlescene was would be a boss-pack we missed and they'd mob me!!
Worst NDE was Diablo, i have 17 Light Res so his Hose nearly pw0n3d me!! Even with 1k+ life!!
Can't wait for the next 2 clvls so i can then Fury my wolfie *** off!! There is no skill for a wolfie at lvl 24 so it was a bit boring for me this session just wanting to hit 30...my new Malice axe was damaging and fast but i have decided to switch it out until we fight bosses (for the PMH) as the drain is silly with no replenish to cover it! Nest kindly gave me a Dimoak's Hew which is more damage but a bit less speed but it looks nicer when i'm unshifted!
Next session our builds can start to come into their element!

I kind of had the same problem. I did get strafe @ 24, but without an Insight it is utterly useless with the kind of damage I am doing at the moment, so I found myself plinking away at an average leaper type monster for 5 minutes or so to kill him :)
Let's hope those bows I found in the CS will up my dmg output a little.
Other than that it was a good session. Our bear addition performed very well and we had one hilarious moment where Rabies got us booted from the game after rapidly infecting a gazillion of those rock worm type monsters and offspring at the River of Flame.
I'll try and mule everything off to the rune mule and up a picture tonight.

Yeaaahhh...my bad, sorry! It just looked so cool i had to keep doing it! I knew we would get dropped when i did it the second time and every monster there got infected...i pissed myself laughing when it did!
Lets hope Baal's drops are kinder to us as we are getting desperate for gear now!

Yeah - I nearly went once in Durance 3 - got stuck with no fire resistance!
I have been getting my Holy Shield up to Level 5 (6 with skill boost) just to cover my blocking - from next time I'm free to pour points in Holy freeze, zeal and a few in salvation for those choice times!
I really need some frontline armour soon - just so I can take a whoopin - so glad BO came online too!

well... i hope that BO will help a bit with the mana problems. it already adds something like 50% extra mana (and life ofcource) and that should be getting more soon. i am giving Bo the highest prio to max it first, specialy for mana reasons.
about that Pruby: we should save many more of these and nefs and those gloves... i think the CB will be in great need and the sooner we get some om that the sooner we will start to rock. the extra hitpoints and LL on those gloves is just an extra bonus.
an insight will be another priority that is VERY high on the wishlist for many.. me not in the least as ww will eat my mana very fast. lets hope for that sol very soon.

That sounds like a plan dude! He fits the speed theme well and he delivers the element we need! A good weapon for him would be a 4-socket War Scepter/Divine Scepter/Caduceus with 'Holy Thunder' (EthRalOrtTal) in it which is well within our grasp methinks!

I have to apologize to Miikai as i totally wigged out this weekend as I logged on Sunday I got caught up in a maelstrom of requests from friends, help for friends, help from friends in return and bigstyle trading and levelling in between! HC Trading is an absolute nightmare! Luckily i met some new, rich mates who have advised me on trading prices as I didn't have much of a clue before as I find all this nice stuff then get stiffed on trading as i'm a n00b at it!
If you take a look at one of the price guides around here, then triple the price, that's what some of the cattle.net kiddies demand for something! It's insane!
When it comes to pgem trades, as they are so easy to make (i pick up every flawless i find and cube the pants off of them!) i usually make a game saying for example 'N Gores O 15 Pg' (they are worth 10 max but you will have to wait ages to get someone sensible to trade with) to get a quicker trade as i can depend on the greed of others to join my game and if i'm desperate and want them quick, in this example, i'd jack it up to 20!
With items i want that will benefit me bigstyle but aren't 'L337' to others i will also overpay with pGems (a guy was trading a +2 Fire Skills crafted with 9% FCR on it and some other gravy mods, as it helped me to free up a ring slot for a Dwarf Star and have the Fire Skills i needed at the time and meet a breakpoint still, i went for it! Trader made me offer a price so i said 10 pGems just to secure the trade (as it was in a an open game) and i CBA to haggle all the time! Realistically, with the worth of that amulet, start them off with 5 and if they refuse say 7 or 8)
Big-value items i will wait on and definately try and get value for value trading for, sometimes again, i will screw myself for wanting something desperately (e.g i traded my 3/-3 Cold Die Facet for a 32/12 Skin non-upped as i wanted it there and then, also traded a Cold Skiller for a Shako which i could have waited and got more worth for but that paid off as it had a pTopaz in it already saving me a socket Q!) and overpay but sometimes you have to! 4) Lay the smackdown on the Hell Council by just keep whirling thorugh them and don't stop for love nor money! (Merc's Reaper's Toll triggering makes this go quicker but he might need a juve if he's swarmed)
5) Hork the corpses
6) TP to town to sell blue armours etc worth loadsa gold!
7) Go to Act 4 as the wp is quicker to access in next game
8) Rinse and repeat
I find you can get some juicy charms, jools, and a buttload of money for gambling from these guys and it's quick and painless to do! Once my cheezy Meteorb gets to lvl 62 to put that Shako on i will do the more conventional runs of Meph and Baal and maybe we can run them together and alternate drops? That's something else four of us were doing last night at Hell Baal so we got the exp from runs and a drop order to boot!
Anyway, back to KTA! Can't wait for tonight as i will finally have Fury to run around with! Feral on my right click for 'personal life tap' and Fury to dish the pain on my left!

Oh - I'm not sure if its just Europe - but i was in a pubby game over the weekend with my amazon leveling - some very helpful high level sorc helped everyone level with baal runs - and everyone behaved totally fine same thing happened later with Cow runs.... PK's?!? nah its a myth...... :D

Most of the team have a long workday and only go online for the actual KTA session. This is at 20:00 middle european/ Paris time, or in 50 minutes.

I've got just the gloves for you too. I crafted some +1 Martial Arts, 6% CB, 2%LL gloves last night which I'm using on my Furysin. I used up one of the two Perfect Rubies we have. The other went to our Frosty who got 9%CB on his gloves iirc.
I think you'll have more benefit from them than I will.
I shopped after the session last night for two +1 assa claws at Anya last night. Took about 7 minutes.
Really getting the hang of Spinnywizzz now, got my Venom, DS and Shadow each at level 7 now. (9 with my claw buffs). The only grumble that I have is that the wolves and vines are eating some of the corpses before my Death Sentry could blow them. Not a major issue as we're kicking butt at the mo.
A good session last night.
Wolves? Vines? NEST!! (I have no vine, sometimes on bosses i use poison vine as i have a +1 to it on my helm with no points in it and my big Grizzly Bear pal is no dirty corpse eater!)
We managed to get a lot done last night, going well this session is (Yoda-ish there...) but i feel i'm gonna get raped in NM as my weapon damage is so poor and my resistances are gonna take a pounding...not looking forward to NM...
(My negative outlook is probably due to the fact the sorc i talked about a few posts back died a lag death last night, first one in year i think but partly my fault as she was lvl 47 entering the Worldstone Chamber in NM as my mate was rushing me and the tentacles got me when the screen returned...lost Shako, crafted amulet, 32 Skin etc. The worst part is, my mate left as the lag hit as he was already fighting baal...he was level 89 with full Tals and must have had at least 15xx life so what did he have to fear?! Can't blame him though, damn dupe-lag...)
I took a few screenies which i will post to oOmpie...and he might post the ones i sent him last week when he posts the new!

I think we should run Baal till the Mid 40's next session. We are going to need some decent drops. Now two of us have come crushing blow it will make things a bit more speedy.
There is no point going into NM if ressies are rubbish. We'll need to go gem hunting too so we've all at least got a pair of CB gloves if nothing else.

but i do think that the first act, and to at least lvl 12-14 you should just be playing alone, as rushing that has little use. and lvling those lvls takes about as much time as playing by yourselve.

I'm gonna get back on the horse with the sorc i think as i still have a Magefist, Rising Sun (Telling of Beads before clvl req) Upped Hotspur, String or Verdungoes with 39 to Vit, 26 Viper (boo! Topaz in it methinks), Wizzy (which i will socket with my 4/-4 Cold Die facet i think, use Suicide Branch before clvl req) and a 4-socket Monarch which I will obviously roll out a Spirit in (Mosers before clvl req).
I have a Mal run which i will try and trade another Shako for but i'm not holding out hope and i need to get some hefty Strength rings and Str charms with life mods on to buff her up to that Monarch. Gonna be a mission but for safety i think another Meteorb is in order with that setup...if i die again i have naff all sorc items left and i will suffer greatly in the inability to MF fast :undecided:

Oh by the by, outside of KTA, if i have something spare, just ask and i give! I used to game a lot with waflob outside of KTA and I have no objections to giving/donating items if needed and i have spare! The Sol for instance, i can give you tonight although the only 4-socket weapon i have at the mo is a non-eth CV so i can't help ya there (req are too big for your merc @ clvl 50 and i find them to be hella slow!)...need to NM cow and find some more!

I will start her off small, all the way through Act 1,2 and 3 with 3 having a bit of help from you guys in the form of waypoints but that way the merc will level with me from Act 2 til end game (Prayer) and i can then after Meph a minor rush to get baalrunning 'til clvl 50and then a NM walk i think, i'll shout you and the others when and thanks again!

I'm not sure if i want to make a zealer/kicksin. What builds are banned from KTA?
None are banned afaik, but the current theme is speed. So any build that has a high attack speed will be best since those fit the theme...
Current builds iirc are: fury wolf, blade fury sin, frostzealer, whirler baba, strafe ama, fire claw bear, all beingt built towards high attack speeds and if zrk manages to get his char back up is a thrower barb.

No builds 'banned' per se dude, to spice things up we like to run with themes on our untwinked adventures and this round the theme is 'Speed Builds'...to refer you to Tika's original post:
the theme of this round will be SPEED
and with that we do not mean characters that can move around very fast (aldough they are free to do so if they can), no we mean we hit very fast! so the aim of the team is to get as many hits in, in as short a timeframe as possible. in the case of this team and hitting things... its all about kwantity, forget kwality. hitting hard is not important, its hitting as often as possible that counts! :grin:
a few suggestions of the type of builds very well suited to this kind of play: any zealot, a kicksin, frenzybarb, WW barb, furywolf, blade fury sin, strafer, fendazon/jabbazon. also, not inmediatly banned from play could be a bone necro or fire ball sorc with tons of FCR. but i ask you all to be creative, suggest and play whatever build you think fits the theme well.
theme specific rules:
- aim for as much IAS or FCR as possible, when choosing between more dmg or more hits...the obvious choise is more hits, even if that means (slightly) less total damage output
- timered spells or skills are totaly banned!
If you are really stuck for an idea dude might i suggest (my 3rd choice pick for this KTA round) a Dentist? A really fun build to play with buttloads of FCR...there should be a guide in the Necromancer Forum Stickies unless it has gone now...

Yesterday was great fun, enjoyed the whole experience with Kaxe and Nest!

It was my birthday yesterday diablo present-wise - you forgot the Sigon's I also received to complete my set. My sorc is loving her gear but not so much the fire immunity that every bloody thing has on hell! Was a jokey build anyway!
Shout out to kaxe's non-KTA friend who was very kind/rich and great fun to march through Nmare with.

Wasn't on much at all this weekend, when i was on (Sat night late i think) i rushed my mate's (Tom, you played with me, him and Nest Ivan!) smiter through Hell with my IK Barb (a surprisingly good rusher!) so i'm behind now on my sorc rebuild...will be starting that tonight after KTA as Baal very kindly dropped me a Peasant Crown and a Shako (118 def) in the same drop when i randomly ran him for just one run the other day so i'm now complete for mid then high level headgear!
Just got to decide what kind of sorc on the rebuild...thinking Meterorb again as when i secure a full Tals it will be the most efficient build for the setup and MF-ing methinks!

Tom was a good laugh last time! My Pure Fire Sorc is nearly totally fire topped. Level 29 Meteor and Fireball and Fire Mastery - just need to finish Fire bolt now. Meteor does over 11k I think - and over 5k fireball - But she is only good in a party.
Played some more with Nest last night - enjoyed it lots - Found the IK set weapon so thats put to one side for a barb. I really need a clean out of my mules too - may get time for that tonight. But its KTA rockin first!

Make an IK Barb dude, you won't regret it...at this stage of the ladder, you could probably get IK Armour for Mal if you try hard...
On a side note dude, with your Fire Sorc, once you max all the Fire Synergies you can start on making a 'reverse Meteorb'; start to invest in the points towards Orb (as you won't have anything else to stick them in) although this will be clvl 85+ levelup points so you won't have Orb until you do some serious power levelling but that way you won't be stuck for a backup skill and you will be uber at clvl 95+!

My speed is now through the roof (it seems as i was sloooo b4!) with 'The Generals...' so my damage output is better and i'll never lose mana so i'm happy...just hooping Meph will drop that Ribby for me then i'm set until end-game! :thumbsup:
On a side note, Ivan and me started some new characters outside of KTA (my sorc rebuild and his boner :tongue: ) which worked their way through Norm Act 1-start of 3 quite efficiently...his boner was pw0n1nG everything while i played TankSorc and static-ed everything and slapped them!

Hello all. I've got an Amn rune and a Tir rune which means I can make Strength.
I'm going to be a bit selfish and ask If I can keep them for myself if I may. A furysin is not a damage dealing ***** like the rest of you. It's success is down to CB, Venom and Death Sentry.
Coupled with the 6% CB from my gloves it would give me a total of 31% CB. Not too shabby at all. Is the team ok with this?
A fine chunk of CB seems to be more useful to us at the moment than a Spirit would be, methinks...

I will be doing the delicate surgery over the weekend, and a fresh install of windows will be happening too - going to take a few days to save my settings! SHOULD be on for monday with my main rig.........otherwise its back to the backup Pentium II ;-)

@Futo - What "Speed" build did you have in mind? As mentioned we are around level 44-46 and have just finished Act 1 Nightmare. If you can get a character there ready for monday - swing by for sure.

i did a few countess runs yesterday (some 4 or 5) but the rewards of the lady herselve were quite poor. 1 time she dropped ort + ort + ral, and another time a ral... other then that only a bunch of el's and eld's :undecided:
however... in the last run the boss in the chamber before her did drop me a nice sheal :thumbsup:
seems to me we can at least make a rhyme now... for whoever needs it (wasn't our fireclaw bear still looking for a nice blocking shield?
Band Practice wasn't on as our singer has 'da lurgie' so i spent the night in a rare-as-rockinghorse-excrement Hell Baalrun set...got my IK Barb from very late 86 to 88 and I was in for 30+ runs with 80% of them 8-player so I feel sorry for the 97 sorc who's exp must have been just chugging along!

I play that fireclaw bear. Frankly I'm irritated that we would have a third shapeshifting druid on the team. But petty I-don't-want-to-share-my-toys thinking didn't prevent us from being mostly melee and all weapon reliant.
So I say, if you really want to be a fireclaws bear and consider it a stronger build than a fireclaws wolf, then you might as well play that. In terms of speed, a wolf will always attack one frame slower than a bear, at least once you move into the faster weapons.
If you want to start him/her today, I'll be online as *Blum7 ready to give you a hand or play along with some char.

Well, been doing countess runs like a mf all morning (which is a slow and painful process with my character, I can assure you) and I have good news and bad news.
Bad news being the countess dropped jack **** and jack left town...
The good news being on my way to her vileness I actually found some decent stuff. A soulflay for my merc, some shimmering amulets and a Sol and a Shael from coffins in the tower and some other gear that I will drop on the floor tomorrow to see if it is of any use for you guys.
Sol is waiting to be insighted, but when I found the Shael I ran off to Larzuk and jammed it in my Rogue's bow :badteeth:
70% IAS strafing hurray... I hardly do any damage at all, so I might try and do some more countess slapping to get me another Sol to upgrade that bow, but I sure do knock back lots of monsters real fast :D

While the Countess stayed true to gerself and kept dropping me El's and Eld's like it ain't no thing I did have quite a nice evening.
After a couple of runs (which netted me But... I found me a pair of Infernostrides and some spunky runes (Dol, Amn, Thul)...).
After acouple runs Nest joined in on the fun. Together we had all the ingredients for an Insight so we rolled it... a whopping 12-er :/
All of a sudden a uniqe ring drops, Nest speaks the immortal words: "gimme soj *cough*"
I id'ed it... and started rolling on the floor laughing... A fricking SoJ it was... How is that for payback, huh, you greedy skanky countess wench? Both of us had never found one :badteeth:
Gave it to Nest since he was Oaking us. Should prolly go to our team BO-supplier or our Oak-supplier tomorrow.

in all my years of playing i have only ever found 1 of those... and that is a very... very long time ago. grats on this very VERY nice find guys!
i am a bit in doubt where it would be put to best use. my first reaction was that i would like it a lot... since the skill would add to BO and the mana is still in bad need as well here. but then i thought about the insight... which would solve my mana problem... (but then again... it will for everyone i think).
in the end i think the skill will be in best use with the warcrying stuff... not only giving extra life to the team... but also mana and defence. and the big advantage over oak is that BO cant die in the middle of a nasty bossfight.
i think we should discuss this matter tonight to see whats the best solution.
question: where is the best place to shop for warcry spears?

As Tika said, Oak can die and BO can't and as he's very short on mana for WW the SoJ will stabilize his mana consumption...I have a +3 Oak buff hat that Nest gave me so it's all good...well done on the finds there you two!
Rogue's Bow is the fastest unique bow in the game but when you upgrade it it gets slower! Your rune-finds though dude so it's your call if you upgrade it, or did you already?! It's a good bow for fast delivery of FA but as you are a strafer we can hope a Goldstrike Arch (a NM dropper!) drops sometime soon or better!

Well an update...........
My PC install took 12 hours Sunday and its still not finished - put everything together (outside of case) and no POST..... nuts!!
So i had to strip it to bits and test each part - 4 hour delay. Its now has windows back on it - but I just got it into its case last night - not turned it on yet, praying to god it works tonight - if it does - I then need to install all my drivers then Diablo 2 on it to be ready. If its totally not working - then I'll have to bring back the Pentium II!
Either way I'm on tonight but I am most likely late!
Its been hard (especially the dust cleaning) but its looking damn fine if I say so myself. I am now at 7 internal HDD's!

i looked it up... and the bow doesn't get slower indeed... so upgrade that thing the moment you can!
it will never get huge dmg however... but i think we should slap some good elemental dmg charms etc on you... together with a bit of CB and it will work just fine. if we add on a bit of crowd contol on the form of knock-back, slow or cold dmg things get just that more interesting.
in the end its not about killing fast... its about killing safe and having fun.

I checked the speeds on the upped box as well and base speed is the same, so it should not be slower when upped.
I am still using my Cleggies for knockback. I lost the cold dmg from my previous bow when switching which was a bot of a pain, but yesterday I also found a +1max/17ar/1-2cold dmg small charm which remedied that. But yeah, the more elemental dmg on me, the better. With the frequency of arrows popping out of my bow that freezes about everything that did not get frozen by ivan :D

What a super session that was. Not only do I now have 56% Crushing Blow we are unstoppable. I've gone all hi-tech and registered with imageshack. :tongue:

that indeed was a fantastic session... what a crazy fun team this is!
first we did our muling off of gems and runes to our mules. then we twinked what was there to be twinked, sorted out the mercs and then we were ready to go.
we steamroled true act 2, having tons of fun in huge groups of beetles or even more skelletons and stuff in the tombs. the sound of it all was totaly unbelievable... bang^&*(smash%$$&wham$&%^dang&$^#kaboom#^%$rats$&%^$bamBAM. and add to that some corpse explosions (trap) and we killed and killed and killed... totaly insane murder it was. :thumbsup:
the maggot lair was pretty fun indeed (aldough it normaly is not). normaly either the pally or the wolf or druid was up front. and the strafer and assa were just firing away. i just whirled true everything, which is ideal for passing people in narrow places. it went as fast as the rest of the session.
act 2 was ended with the death of duriel... who quickly found out that his cold aura was not a match for our pallys cold aura... then the rest of the party came true the door into the room and you could see him think... OMG crazy fire ants comming for me :starry: and yes... fire ants are pretty good at consuming maggots (the bigger the better).
we started with act 3, where we came about halfway. all those small critters gave just as many opportunitys to hit and kill, so where the jungle normaly is a place of irritation it now was a good laugh. we ended the session with the lower kurast wp, being between lvls 52 and 55 i think.
as for finds: we did find a rattlecage (with CB on it) wich is now in good use with out assa who is growing big in CB. we did find a lot of charms all session, and some of those were quite nice. a druid summoning skiller, a 4 max/4x ar/12 life LC, some nice mana charms and more of those.
as for danger... i think i was in more danger this morning when i put butter on my sandwich (knives are reaaaal dangerour)... as i dont think my life ever went below 90%. some of the other members did get hurt a little bit more now and then, but i dont recall someone in yellow lifebar.
conclusion: this team is possibly the best and most fun team i have been on... and speed... heh... there is no speed like our speed. we should call ourselve the "mach 6 enraged fire ants on extacy" from now on :scratch:

As i was searching for the Lower Kurast campfire to see what the rack and chests would give me a blue +2 summoning dropped from a Zealot-type Zakarum freak...thats a nice +3 extra buffing for the Oak...that will probably have me at 2.6k life :shocked:

LOL! I found that my low lightning resistance can be offset by using Feral Rage on Beetles so it keeps me at the top of the bulb!
