Surprised there isn't more news or threads on this. Made by the core producers of the games that shall not be named (Start with D, ends with iablo), it's an action RPG set in a post apocalyptic london overrun with demons.

So, I've had the pleasure of getting into the beta, and so far, it's been a blast! Can't really say much about it, only that fans of the *insert crowbar here* series will enjoy it, especially as it has tons of references to it.

I'll truly enjoy playing full retail version. It has Hardcore mode, so you know what I'll be playing on release.

I'm sure there'd be more topics about it if people in the beta could discuss it. In fact, I would contest a point or two of your post myself, but alas I am bound by the NDA, and doing so would undoubtedly break it.

Ingame is Arkyk though, if you ever happen to see me on.

Nothing, really. It's just that to express why I feel differently would require me to go into enough detail that I would be breaking the NDA. =)

That defeats the purpose of talking to the members of the D2 OTF about it.

I mean, you can say that for any game.

"Hey, anyone here play _________?"
"Take it to the _________ forums."

He wants to talk to us, the OTFers, the people who frequent this forum, not some other forum with a bunch of people he doesn't know.

4 years. But it only has a PCI slot. I knew nothing of these things when I got it. I'd be willing to get a new graphics card (the only thing I'm deficient in) to play, but apparently it wouldn't make any difference.

I got the invite to beta-test the other day and got to play for several hours last night. Simply amazing! I had to turn off some eye candy to be able to play smoothly, but even on my old computer at medium settings at 1600x1200 the game is amazing.

The past few years no game has really impressed me. FEAR was fun but I kept going back to all my older games like D2, Dungeon Keeper 2, Age of Empires, whatever. But Hellgate is easily the best game I have played since the first Halflife game, perhaps better. Now I just have to upgrade to take full advantage of the game. =) I love the scaleability of the game though. Even on my older machine it runs smooth. Theres such a huge range of scaleability with Hellgate, you can turn it way down and run it on a pretty old machine, or, if you have one hell of a killer system, you can crank everything. But even on a mediocre machine you can get away with medium settings on decent resolution.

The gameplay is a blast and the maps and settings are stellar. I love the feel of wandering around a postapocalyptic setting with demons and undead lurking around every turn. Every street brings something new for challenges and new enemies. It really does a great job of balancing action and keeping you on edge.

Theres even a fun quest early in the game that gives some props to Diablo. Its a neat little easteregg any Diablo fan can appreciate. Im not going to tell you what it is though. :P

Knight Templar's are hella fun. Let's break it down.

3 main classes.
Knight Templars - Broken down further into Blademasters and Guardians. Blademasters are the major dps machines, dual wielding swords to do insane amounts of damage.
Guardians are the tanks/supporters of the game, but don't get me wrong. They can still do really nice damage, just not as much as the blademasters. High survival rate, as their entire character is built around being in the middle of a large amount of enemies. Think lots of shield attacks, an aoe low cooldown heal, and a nice armor buff. I love my guardian.

Hunters - Broken down into Marksman and Engineer. Marksman are your FPS portion of the game, dual wielding guns, using sniper rifles, rockets etc etc. They utilize grenades, sniper stances and airstrikes. I played one, but not a huge fan.
Engineers also utilize guns, but they have robots and drones to help them kill. Currently bugged in the beta, the drone can be outfitted with armor and weapons. Interesting class, the difference between the Engineer and summoner is that the engineer uses drones to help him kill faster, while the summoner uses them to kill, period.

Finally the Cabalists
Broken down into Evokers (whom I love) and summoners. Evokers are your "mage" character in the game, but with really interesting spells and effects. Actually, other than the guardian, they're the best tankers in the game, with a move called arcane shield that provides you with a large amount of shields while standing still or just simply recharging your current shields. They also have an armor increasing ability that does toxic damage to enemies that attack them. Lots of ways to play the Evoker, you can attack from insane range, or close combat with large amounts of spammable attacks.

Summoner - have not played him yet. Somewhat boring, I've heard. He can summon elementals, demons and has skills that boost their hp, help them kill faster etc.

Been playing the demo tonight. Bag of Bones did my Markman very well. Got myself a top notch rocket launcher thingy. After that nothing ever even came close to me ever again. And let's hear it for grenades!

My swordsman though, Bag of Bones killed me three times before I got him and then got a crappy grappler. WTF? Is that the most useless weapon in the game?

Night
20-10-2007, 06:58
Grappler will let you pull ranged enemies to you so you can cut them, no? Duh.

Anyway, I am installing the demo now.. I have an ultra busy day tomorrow, if I slept now I'd have 5 hours of sleep available.. I am afraid I am going to fail myself and play all night. But I guess if I played all night then still did OK tomorrow, everything would work out..
But I don't think I can do ok tomorrow w/o sleep so I am going to play for a minute and goto bed :)

/edit
Looks like I'm not playing tonight.. I don't have service pack 2 for XP. It wouldn't DL last time I tried. I guess I will give it another shot..

Is there a way to get it from NOT-microsoft though? Their windows update is real **** IMO

You can get an e-machine that'll play this for about $500-600. All you really need is any decent computer with a good video card. My compuer is a three year old e-machine with a cheap PCI card and I can play. The settings are low but it still looks damned good.

I'm running a laptop. It couldn't play Titan's Quest because all I have is a stock graphics card.

I couldn't run titan quest either, but I can run HG:L fine on med/low settings.

I just started playing a summoner today. Gotta say it was fun for the hour or so I got to play until the servers went down for maintenance. Im still partial to the blademaster though. Dual wielding swords or dual wielding pistols (grenade launchers for the win!).

I want real PvP...not just some arena combat or similar crap. *sniff* guess I'm stuck with daoc still, I'm just sooo sick of it. Oh well.

Super Smash Bros!

I kid, I kid... totally different types of PVP. But these days, that's the only game that really holds my interests :undecided:

Maybe I'm just blind or something, but is there a way to see what your attack damage or even dps is?

You can see what the attack damage of your weapon is by examining it, but then good luck trying to compare it to the other weapons since you'd have to examine them too and try to remember what the previous one said. Needlessly cumbersome, IMO, but there it is.

And no, I don't think there's a way to see what your total attack damage is.

I want a new computer for this so bad, old dell runs it on near lowest settings but it does run it and I'm still in love with it, a new box and I will never leave my chair.

oh and beta accounts remain but the characters on them will be wiped when at official release.

they also limit you to 3 characters account unless you subscribe then you get 24 characters. $10 month to subscribe or $150 for lifetime subscription, this is said to be a limited time offer based on date of game purchase. That is only a rumor, no one has been able to point to the limited offer info yet.

Carnage-DVS

Not a rumor. It's called the Founder's Offer, it's only available to those who pre-ordered, and it's limited to 100,000 accounts or till November 30th.

I find this to be quite annoying as well. Its too time consuming to examine and compare, I wish they had it show all stats with a mouse over.

Yeah, me too. I actually want to know my damage...somewhat annoying. Hope they include a damage indicator in retail.

I got two beta invites for some reason so I can forward one of them to whoever wants it. Let me know by e-mail or pm.

Edit: I just checked two of my other e-mail addresses and both have received three invites. I don't know, maybe they're going for a random mass invite wave or something.

Now I should be able to forward 7 invites in total, provided they all work. I have already received two messages asking for an invite so five are still left.

Remember, include your e-mail address when asking for one. Otherwise there's no way for me to send it to you.

Thanks

Three invites left. I'm going to leave for around six hours soon so the last invites will be sent with some delay.

Have fun in the beta!

Thanks s4nder for the invite. I'm currently downloading, everyone else just be prepared for the whopping 4,3 GB of download and some pretty steep sysreqs.

those sys req's are false, my computer is slightly below 2 of those and the beta runs fine, i just have to put it on the lowest settings

I have a P4 2.4 (single core), geforce 6800gt and a gig of ram and the demo ran just fine on default settings. Just fiy.

I just hope that they do a better job than with crowbar's LCS.

Now to get it or not.. a beta account would help me decide I guess.
I wouldn't want to play the watered down version for any real period and have never played a subscription game before, but I was going to try this out anyway because my loins longed to dual wield like only a true blademaster can..

However after reading the terms of the lifetime subscription I realised that on top of the monthly fee, i'd still have to pay for expansions... seems like a rip to me even if the game is uber. I've been looking forward to it for so long though, I am most frustrated.

I got home just now and even though I still had three invites left, two of them said "You're not authorized to view this page" when clicking the link. So basically just one of them worked.

Two people had asked for an invite while I was away. I sent the invite to BlueDogAnchorite because he had asked first.
Bugatron, not to worry, me and some friends have been repeatedly getting invites for a few days now and you're first on the list.

With that said, I'm out of invites for now. Have fun playing and I do hope you decide to buy the game, BlueDogAnchorite, because it's tons of fun even in the gimped beta. My name in the game is Shrike so if anyone wants to play together, drop me a whisper.

Thanks

The Beta is officially over on Friday. Anyone wanting to still try the game can always download the single player demo from the flagship site.

I just picked up a spiffy soundcard (Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty) as well as another GB of ram. What a huge difference that is for running the game. All settings on high or better at 1280x1024 and it runs flawlessly. Different areas load up in seconds instead of minutes now. I cant wait to buy the full game.

The latest patch made the game run much worse for me.

Never had many troubles before, but now my sound is choppy, loading new areas takes forever and a day, and graphical glitches are causing my computer to hard lock.

I r a sad panda. =(

Actually, what they are doing is pretty interesting. The beta servers are getting wiped and going down Friday. However, just before retail hits stores, they are opening the beta servers up again for anyone who pre-ordered but couldn't get the game in time for release for whatever reason. Those chars still have the beta restrictions (level 22 cap) but they will transfer over to retail servers once you got it installed etc.

Sounds awesome.

Cheers again s4nder, I only have today to play before the wipe, so I won't be doing anything else. :azn:
