Noob question regarding Ladder

Hello everyone:

It's being 2.5 years since I last touched D2 LOTD and now I want to restart this classic game again for some reasons.

I've read through the arreat summit and done a search here but I still couldn't find the answer that I'm looking for.

I know that when the ladder season is over, your ladder character is moved to non-ladder and must create a new ladder character to obtain the ladder only rune words or items. The rune words and all equipments that you've obtained from the previous ladder season will still remained after your character(s) is/are moved to the non-ladder.

My question is when I create a new ladder character, can I transfer my previously owned awsome equipment from the previous ladder character to the currect ladder character??

If it's not possible, then what's the point of starting a new character in a new ladder season? Suppose in this new ladder season, blizzard has added some new and attractive rune words and that's basically it?! If say those 6 new rune words doesn't appeal to me at all becouse I already have obtained loads of godly items in the previous ladder season, does this mean it's officially a game over moment for me unless I want to start a new class or new build using different equipment?!

It's being 2.5 years since I last played and I've to admit I was once in the top 100 on the ladder with my hammerdin and WW barb at lvl ~90 and loads of sojs, etc but I just let my account expired along with everything I've hard earned. Since it has being a long time, I cannot exactly recall the transformation from ladder to non-ladder and back to ladder.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I first started D2 when I was in my 11th grade in high school, and I was only 17 years old back then. Seven years after, I've admit that this is still one of my fav game eventhough I've moved on to several other new games including all the latest hot titles you can see now.

Well, when ladder resets, all ladder chars get transferred to non-ladder and some "duped" runewords also disappear because blizzard runs a ruststorm at this time, although last ladder reset i dont think anyone lost their items, priobably because blizz forgot the ruststrom lol.

Also remember there are some ladder-only runewords. Therefore, when your lad-chars get transfered to non-lad, the lad only items become expensive..

well, your brief explaination still didn't cover my question, :p
I wanted to know if I can transfer (move items from my mules) from the previous ladder season to a new character I just created in the new ladder season.
Suppose the new ladder only items sucked and I still prefered to use most of my equipment from the previous season ladder character(s).

The answer is no.

Since your old character is now a nonladder char with therefore nonladder equipment and interaction between nonladder and ladder chars is not possible you have no way to get your old gear. For some the appeal of starting on ladder is the very fact that everyone starts out fresh. I hope this helps.

Thanks for reply, and that clears the questions I've in mind.
Well, I just glanced over at the previous ladder seasons timeframe and they each appeared to be roughly +/- one year long. So it's not too rushed.

So I guess when the new ladder season started and you feel like starting a new character (including getting into the hype of obtaining new ladder rune words/items), you may as well as say good bye to your previous ladder characters along with his/her godly items becouse they will not worth much.

Maybe for me they don't worth a damn and it's as good as time to hit the deletion key (sacarsm). I don't think I've the guts to do so and it's hard to let them go after a year long playing. But by my definition, they merely worth nothing as I never played non-ladder every since I started D2 when I was 17 and now I'm back in the game at 24.

People still play non-ladder characters, so if you had fun with your characters you can still use them. Also, ladder only runewords are worth quite a bit on non-ladder seeing as no one can create them anymore. That's part of the reason so many people loaded up on ladder only runewords just before the ladder season ended.

Can I add my newbie question to this? To see if I understand correctly?

- When the ladder is reset, all the (ladder) chars I have now will become non-ladder ones. I can continue to play them on realms, but if new things are introduced, I may not be able to use them, even if the game is patched and I get the patch (because I connect to realms).
- The only consequence this has for me (as a newb) is that I will not have access to certain new runewords and will not be where the most cutting-edge of action is. I may have difficulties in trading with high-level thingies, because people who have those will probably be on the ladder. But since I am a newb and will probably only have mediocre stuff by then anyhow, that shouldn't be a big reason for grief, right?

No one really knows if this ladders season will ever end, the last one was longer than normal. We assume it will be reset but no one knows for sure.

There are also certain cube recipies and unique items that are available only on ladder as well. You'll have difficulty trading for ladder only runewords as they will be very high in price on non-ladder (due to limited supply).
