View Full Version : Knockback?

I searched Arreat Summit to check, and if I'm right there's only one way to get knockback on an item, and that's with the "bear" suffix, and according to the site it only works on melee weapons. (Which seems kind of odd to me, since I often would not want to knock opponents back with a sword if I want to beat them silly; melee chars have skills which do that which I can choose if I want. But whatever.)
However, many guides and tips I have read make the (to me: very plausible) suggestion of getting knockback on bows for an amazon, for obvious reasons.
I am a bit confused. I have never actually found any interesting runes, but I read that there is a rune which creates knockback. If I find this and put one in a bow, will the bow then have knockback?
Is this the only way to get knockback on a bow??
Any clarification would be appreciated, thanks much!

Nef rune gives knock back in weapons.
Any runeword containing nef, made in a weapon would also get knock back.

Knockback on a bow can be awesome. If you manage to name-lock a monster you will keep hitting him and knocking him back, even though he's out of the screen. You are right about melee - avoid any weapon with knockback because it will only slow you down.
Besides the Nef rune, lots of uniques have knockback. But the easiest way to get knockback is by crafting Hit Power Gloves (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/crafted/hitpower.shtml). With some luck they will come with other useful mods. I made one recently with life leech and 20%IAS.

Knockback is very useful for amazons. Windforce has it, as well as hitpower gloves and the Giant Skull unique helm. It's not useful in melee, except for perhaps mercs.
I think everyone is forgetting one melee character that loves knockback - the daggermancer.

Also good to have in duels for ww-characters vs smiters  But of course bowzons are the all time best build for utilizing kb, since they attack from a distance they'd love their targets to get slowed in their advance towards the zon.

OK great.
One last question: Does Knockback stack?
I finally found a KB rune and put it in a bow, works like a charm. But what if I find some of those blood hit gloves you mentioned, or that unique item? Will I knockback more? Or is kb always a fixed amount?

having 1 kb is the same as having more than 1 kb.

The chance to knock back an enemy depends on its size: Small = 100%, medium = 50%, large = 25%. I'm not entirely sure about the percentages. Having more than one knockback item won't increase the chance on that, however. Act bosses cannot be knocked back at all.

That's exactly right.
