noob question - High levl items

When the guides say certain builds of necro prefer items like trangouls set or Homunculus. How on earth is a player supposed to get them? Is it like epic random world drop in World of Warcraft or do these things drop off certain bosses? Or do you buy them online and how do you buy them online? I played d2 a couple of years ago and never really got into the high level stuff but I'd like to try now. Really nice to see such an old game have such a strong community after all these years. There's still no better hack and slash than D2!

You can trade in bnet for uniques and set pieces, you can also trade for runes. If you want to start trading the base items are Pgems, you can get almost anything for the right amount of Pgems, you can also magic find you are not garanteed to find what you are looking for but you will probably find things to trade like other useful sets uniques. There s no need to spend real money buying anything online, some items are more likely to drop in certain areas or bosses depending on what you are looking for.

It can seem daunting when you first start. My advice is to keep playing. Once you get a character to high enough level to do runs in hell, good items will come. Like GotFriana said, they might not be what you are after, but somebody will want them. Trade them on the forums and you will have the gear you want in no time (most necro gear, with the possible exception of death's web, is pretty cheap)

The most important part of gaining wealth is interacting w/ bnet. Unless your actively harvesting items and then trading them for currency, its hard to get a leg up.

the trade forums here on this site are very active as well.

my advice if you don't have a lot of good Magic Find gear is to keep killing things, and cube up your flawless gems to perfect gems. put all your perfect gems onto mules.

traders on this forum will sell almost anything for enough Pgems - you can even get high runes for Pgems. sure, that Ber rune will cost you like 250 pgems, but at least it's currency you can always obtain fairly easily. sell uniques that you're not using for runes and pgems, and given enough time, you'll be set up.

Don't underestimate +MF%.

At first, I thought that it wasn't worth anything. Until I actually started wearing some MF gear and suddenly gold and green items actually began dropping.

I guess you are in late NM? I found my Shako with NM Pindle (the zombie garden super unique) as well as plenty of nice things.

The SP trading forum is great, as well. You can trade Trang's and Homunculus for pgems, if you like. Do yu use ATMA or GoMule?
