View Full Version : Discuss themes for untwinked group games
i'm not planning one or anything. this is just for fun
Friendly forest animals
you need three druids, one maxes SOB/Spirit wolves, one does Oak/Dire, the third does HoW/grizzly. The druids themselves can be anything. one of them adds 5-10 points in raven and another maybe uses Poison Creeper if it doesn't lag the game too bad. So you'll have 9 animal tanks, no skelemancer needed
selfish builds
builds whose skills benefit the party only as a side effect, or add no direct benefit at all. examples: furyzon, Bliz sorc, fanatic zealot, windy, and Dtailer. Conviction pallies and enchant sorcs are banned ;)
selfless builds
each build must max one skill that benefits the party as a whole. interestingly, this leaves out zonz and assasins. The only allowed sorc is an enchant sorc and she has to have at least 5 points in static field. necros are the onyl exception to the max rule as there is no point in maxing Amp.
examples: conviction pala, any barb with BO, any drood with a spirit, hammerdin, healer, uhhh...a paladin with a different aura
The Crusade
All paladin team, nuff said.

How about an original Diablo theme. Bowazons, Barbarians and Sorcs only, no mercs, gems, jewels, runes, or (obviously) auras.
Like using only skills that have an equivalent in Diablo?
Nova/teleport/eshield/tk sorc and normal attack everyone else :)
sounds fun
7 samurai - 7 chars which must all wield 1 or 2 swords. No other weapons allowed.
(ie 4 chars and 3 a3/a5 mercs)
Shouldn't be too hard except getting enough elemental damage for PI's, but I like the idea :D

There'd be chaos when the first good sword dropped :wink3:

I think that the forest animals idea is funny.
I think it would be kind of cool to have everyone pick a character that they want (doesn't matter what you pick) and then put your stats in one and only one stat option. IE: Make a sorc and only put points in to energy, or a zon and only put points in to dex etc etc.
I'll try to quickly rehash an old idea of mine, namely sorcs dating necros.
You need 3 single tree sorcs and 3 necros, 1 poison, one bone and one summoner. If each takes a different act 2 merc, that gives 6 useful auras and each team member will specialise in one damage type, with all damage types well covered.
I suppose you could take along a BO barb, as a sort of chaperone, but I doubt this will be necessary.
The only thing I'm not sure about is why those nice sorcs would want to date those skinny pale dudes :-)

Hey, us skinny dudes can do alright by ourselves thank you very much...

GAT = Green Arse Trousers.......correct?
Green Arse Team, but close
i have been thinking of a team wich would be called "machine gun mob".
the original ideal would be as many strafazons in a group... all with act 1 mercs as well and a valk ofcource. imagine... 8 strafers, 8 act 1 mercs and 8 valks going loose
to counter physical immumes half of the zons should take a cold arrow backup and the other half fire.
to make it a bit more differentiated you could make it a team of trowing (barbs and pala's) and bows. (aldough i think the ama light skills should be banned). and trow in a furysin or 2.
lag city :D
Throw in a fireball sorc and a spear necro if you really want to differentiate.

The 8.
Everyone uses Javelins and Hyperions (Scutums, etc. earlier on), dresses in red and gold, and no one ever retreats.
No one goes to town for any reason; this is HC.

That actually sounds fun...
Would we restrict it to simply Barbs for style, or any male characters?

I was thinking 'all barbs' and we just run through all of normal. Kind of a one time thing. We'd have to mule the shields, javelins, and uniforms ahead of time though; I think it would be pretty hard to find that many on the road.
To make it easier, we could figure out which normal uniques would give you gold/red armor with a gold helm. Could even use different color javelins and boots for different people (so we could tell one another apart).
WE'd have to do something of a "Spartan Gear Drive" beforehand. 8 Goldskins (or Bone flesh?), 8 chancies, 8 gold javelins, etc.
Hmm, I bet if we allowed all male classes we could get fairly far...
Holy Freeze/Holy Shock/Fanat Pallys
Throw/BO/Shout Barb
Bone Armor/Curse/Throw Necro
There's some potential here methinks...

What about an "all ranger" team. "Ranger" meaning "ranged attack only". Bone Spear/Spirit, Blade Fury and Double Throw are all fairly decent in their own rights. Obviously, the Zon has both Bow and Spear skills (although I agree with a prev poster that LF is a little overpowered compared to the rest of the team.) Sorc skills should also probably be limited to "missile" type spells for the sake of purity.
Unfortunately, this puts the Palladin and Druid at a disadvantage, since they have no "native" ranged attacks.
Just a thought.

Druid hunter is a standard(ish) build as is a cold/lite ranger pally. Good solid builds, with no disadvantage (as far as I can tell)

Yeah, the line is a little fuzzy.
If you exclude "throw item" (since all characters have that) from the "native" designation, then I guess you could say that, technically the Zon doesn't have a "native" ranged attack either.
However, thanks for bringing that up. It helps to clarify the categorization: "Missiles only"
(Name the team "The Missile Mongers"? )
Running a team like this would be tough though. I can see the "pecking order" turning into a "bone of contention" (:groan: A pun and two cliches. Ouch.) i.e. "Who gets that cool [insert throw weapon name here] we just found?"

While we're on throwing weapons, what about a team of bottled perfume throwers?

Dear God, Zinc. When I looked at this thread, I thought "Great chance to tell them to do a Potion thrower contest!" Way to ruin it, dude.
Another idea would be making teams that only use first tier abilities, like Bash, Sacrifice, Teeth, etc.
If we were to do that could we put points in higher synergies?
If so, CB ftw...

Hm, interesting question.
Well, in that respect, I'm inclined to say no.
Consider Skelly Necros, Smiters... too good for this team.
I'd say the most screwed would be casters, but then again, if its teamwork, what would happen is you have 7 chars prepared for all situations. This would be the breakdown, the ranking states the most and least useful builds:
- Amazon: Ranking 5/7. This would be the team's scout and it can put off a decent amount of damage melee with Jab and ranged with Arrows, plus Crit strike to boot! Being weapon oriented, it has more changes to deal more damage than the Sorc
- Assasin: 3/7. Assasin provides of some good utility in Psi Hammer to KB enemies, and has great melee dps with CMastery, TStrike and Talon. Can help out with Flame Blast for ranged DPS. Solid.
- Necromancer: 1/7. Most useful member in the team. The least prone to die from melee damage because of Armor, has Teeth to DPS, has an army of fully synergized Skeletons and Amp Damage to help out with its team DPS.
- Barbarian: 7/7. Poor barbs just have Bash and Howl to use during battle. It can have a weapon profficiency which is always welcomed, and Find Potion makes him the water dispenser of the team.
- Paladin: 2/7. The ability to heal the team, add a ton of Fire Resist or deal pretty good damage with Sacrifice combined with CC on Smite makes him one of the MVP of the team.
- Sorceress: 6/7. DPSer of the team. CB for AOE, has Fire and Cold attacks to go through resistances, Warmth gives it a ton of mana and has Ice Armor to defend itself. Low rated because she won't scale as well as the melee characters due to lack of synergies and masteries.
- Druid: 4/7. While a good tank as a Wolf, it would lack abilities to up its melee damage (can be fixed with a ton of good equipment though)... can set up flocks of ravens and a powerful creeper for support and burn when necessary. Solid.
This is just a wild guess, though.
