View Full Version : Having mana issues on my hammerdin
Well, title says it all. I can't teleport for very long without needing to drink mana pots. I use an Insight Prayer merc, Level 13 Meditation Aura on the Polearm. My character is level 81, Max mana is 381. I use Shako, MP Enigma, Hoto, Mara's, Arach's, Magefists, 10 FCR Rare, Treks/Travs, Natures Peace and Sigs Shield(Until I can get my hands on a HoZ). I use a 14/12 Druid torch for the resists and attributes.
I don't understand what I've done wrong, everybody else seems to manage spamming constant hammers which is just like teleing just fine :(
Edit: Now it seems every single thing about this hammerdin sucks. Life sucks, damage sucks, mana sucks and he dies often. What the hell is wrong

lvl your pally to like 90 (not so hard) natures peace is useless when you use hammerdin.

Spirit Sheild. Tal-Thul-Ort-Amn
There really shouldn't be a reason why you are not using one (maybe Non-Ladder?). Basically, you gain +2 Skills, FHR, Res (alot if made in a high res base Pally Shield). It also comes with ~100 to mana that helps put more onto your bulb. Also, the more mana you have, the faster it will regenerate due to Insight.
You can also get some +mana GC's. They can get as high as 57 IIRC. That also can be a big help.
They also may have a CTA. Doubling your life/mana will result, well, in more mana.
Another thing to consider, is to flash Redemption every now and then after killing a pack to regain more life and mana.

I'd aim for a high res base Scared Targe/Rondanche if I were you, and do a bit of gear switching to reach 125% FCR. Once you got 125%, you hardly ever go back. HoZ is an awesome shield, but for just about every other Paladin build BUT Hammerdin. You may get more damage, but you lose speed. With Spirit, you gain more damage over time, that and like it matters that much if it takes what, maybe one more hammer to kill due to that 1k less hammer? However its an endless debate, but I prefer Spirit.
I have been unable to find an elite white or 4os pally shield so far. I've posted on the trade forums, nada.
Taking off hoto would put my damage to a pitiful level. I guess I really just need to get a spirit.
Although when I tried running meph, I was surprised at how quickly he died O_O.
How much will a 40+ res white/4os elite pally shield put me out of?

I have no idea how much it would cost, just that a 40+ can be alot. Basically though, make one in the first four socket Paladin shield that drops your way. Either way, it should beat out a Sigon's shield. Its cheap enough you can just make a new one for later.
You can always upgrade it later, with any luck you'll find a decent shield in Keep, Pits, Chaos or something.
Shako+Wizzy+Spirit should give you enough mana. Mine is about 600+ now. With a lvl17 insight, the mana hardly drop even teleporting around.

Wow..What a huge difference spirit made.
My mana now sits at 550ish, and almost all of my resists problems except for fire are solved.
Even though I'm not at the final cast frame, and the Spirit I made after 4 trys was only 32( :'( ), I must say it's alot better. If I get lucky and roll a 35, I'll be at the final cast frame.
Now I think my above post is really stupid O_O

get a call to arms if you don't have one, also you could try and roll a better meditation level for your merc althouhg I don't know how big of an affect that will have. My hammerdin uses pretty much the exact same setup as yours with a HoZ and after BO I have like 630 mana. I think my merc's insight is lvl 17 and I never run out of mana.

you could always use redemption to refill ur mana/life balls.....

Yeap,
1 Point Redemption is just like... Woa... for getting some mana back. With +skills, you're going to get basically half to all of it back off just a a few bodies.
And yes, the larger your mana pool the better. Large Regeneration is great, but it is still based off how much mana you have. So for example, a Cry barb with ~200 mana will empty that globe and have no hope of keeping up the casting even with Insight because the casting cost compared to regen is just far beyond what it will do. If he had 600 mana, he could cast without stopping with the same setup. Mana pool makes a massive, massive difference when it comes to regen and that's how you fix your mana problem without flashing Redemption (though you should still do that...).

how can you say hammerdins suck? lol. nothing is immune, and it's almost impossible to kill.
For your problem, the obvious solution is to increase mana. This can be done in many ways. Spirit solved many of your issues. Until you get that 35 spirit though, you can use:
1) Frostburn - 40% extra mana and cheap.
2) CTA - low to mid lvl cta's are also fairly inexpensive, and seeing that you already have a spider, looks like you can afford it. 75% extra mana
3) don't use natures peace unless you're running nil for keys. Natures peace = no redemption = no mana for you. Use a soj instead. 20 + 25% extra mana and + 1 all skills = bonuses to everything.
All told, that's almost 150% extra mana for you. If you still have problems, get some mana charms.
As for your damage,
anything over 10k-10k is not noticably different. Try to get + to all skills so it levels both your hammer dmg and the bonuses you get from your concentration (and I think it also applies to the cta and the teleport).
After that you'll have yourself a gg-never-run-outta-mana hammerdin just like everyone else...
hm, I don't think that you should run out of mana with an insight on ur merc. Trying taking out his weapon and putting it back in, maybe the aura has not been activated.

I'll tell u the simplest solution i used on my hammer....
Make his mana at least 600-800 when u BO you will have a considerably large mana pool. My paladin needs no aura assistance nor is pots required. at lvl 91 i have 1.6k life and 1.2k mana
i do 13k dmg as well which comes from basic equipment and no gcs. just 1 soj...
Leme know how this works for u.

Guys, I think he already solved his mana problem back in post 7 by using a Spirit. The only other problem he is having now is with his FR.
My recommendation, Hotspurs. 45 FR, +15 Max, and a bit of life. Awesome underrated boots. That, or aim for a few FR SC's.
*Starts to wonder if people read more than the OP*
I'm just going to pick up some fire resist charms if I can. CTA is on my list of things to get.
I really thought this thread would stop moving when I said I was doing fine for mana O_o

I really thought this thread would stop moving when I said I was doing fine for mana O_ois I said in my first post use wizzy and you have solved your fcr/mana/res problem. you will be doing ~10k hammers with it so you will be fine
Although I know you mentioned your mana problems are mostly solved, also take a look at putting on some Silkweaves. I have a pair on my FO/Nova sorc, and it's just sweet when I nova a large pack of monsters several times, they all die, and refills my mana bulb. Silkweaves add 10% more mana to your pool and +5 mana per kill. If not Silks, try to get ~30-40 mana boots or craft some nice caster boots which could get even more mana, resists, and magic find.
