The Small ISO Thread [October 2007]

Make sure that you read this before you post an ISO. Do not ask for items unless they qualify under the Small ISO Rules.


Sometimes we need one or two not so valuable items like socketables, lower unique/set, etc but feels shy to make a new thread only for such a little stuff(s).

Rules:

This thread is offered as a convenience, you are not required to use it if you do not want to, even for a small ISO.
You're ISO may only include one or two items. If you need 3 items, make your own trade thread.
You may only ask for common, low end stuff. This includes socketed items, normal sets and uniques, common exceptional sets and uniques, and low end set and unique jewelry.

Things you may not ask for: Any elite sets and uniques, any class specific exceptional sets and uniques, any set/unique jewelry with a required level of more than 50, the Stone of Jordan Ring, Gheed's Fortune, skill charms, generally any charm with 2 desirable mods, any runewords containing runes higher than Hel, and high end jewels. (If you think a jewel, charm, magic, or rare item could be worth any items that have been listed here as things that are not "small" ISOs, then you should ask for these in your own trade thread.)

Once again, I'm seeing ISOs that clearly do not follow the rules given in the first post. I realize how nice and convenient this thread is, but I'm really starting to get tired of people trying to see what they can get away with. I shouldn't have to micromanage this thread to make sure everyone is following the rules.

These small ISO thread can really make certain trades (like for socketables) a lot quicker and easier, but that comes with a sacrifice of easy traceability. Thats why it's restricted to the lower-end items.

Would it be possible to change the rules? You seem to be fighting a losing battle here.

Otherwise, if you want to retain the current rules your options seem to be reduced to doling out some kind of meaningful sanction against people who ask for expensive stuff, or, like you say, closing the thread.

I really like the small ISO thread. It's highly visible, fast paced, and has a lot of action. Unfortunately a large part of that action is contrary to the listed rules. (Going on my own impressions) I'm wondering if the rules were strictly followed, if this thread would have even half of the activity that it does now.

I'm not really sure what the intended objective of this thread is, but it seemed to me (as a relative newcomer) to be the active bazaar of the SPTF, where the rest of the forum was more like a mall, with individual shops.

From a selfish point of view, the thread would be much more useful (and entertaining) if the restrictions were more relaxed, perhaps more in line with the NTPP restrictions.

On another note, I don't think the Small ISO thread is working as well as it could. The major problem being that you can't see everyone's needs at once AND whether or not their posted needs have been fulfilled. If we could somehow turn the Small ISO into one big post everyone could edit (sort of like an e-bulletin board) I think it would work much better. It would easier and faster to see what everyone wants and if they still wanted it.

I think that it'd be best to leave the number of items in your ISO the same (2) - cause it's simpler to make a post here than to make a new thread for just two items. But it would be ok not to allow the trading of Elite and Class Specific items and runes above Hels... I think it'd still be in spirit of Small Iso Thread but with some restrictions. It's all up to the mod's decision of course (it's probably easier to track trades when a member makes a thread).

Ok, sorry for mistaking. I remembered that I could trade those skillers here, but it's ok. I see the point. I'll try to trade them in my next bigger ISO thread.

What to do with these Small ISO threads? I really don't want them to shut down. As I see them as a place, where to make trades quickly and without making a new thread. I kind of like the idea that in Small ISO, you could only trade NTPP-items and/or certain list not to trade. I really hope we don't have to take these down.

The problm with "loosening" the rules is that this thread is an absolute nightnmare for tracking trades. It doesn't work properly with the iTrader system, and it can be hard to figure out what trades took place when you are looking back. When I have to start tracking trades when someone gets caught cheating, the Small ISO Threads are the biggest nightmare and time waster, even with my über search skills. :wink3:

I've also noticed that our returned banees like to make a beeline for this thread, because it's lower profile and it can buy them some precious time to get in some trades before I nuke them. As a corilary, people don't seem to be on guard as much when trading in this thread. So bascially, allowing items with anything other than a trivial value could be a detriment to the health of the tradepool.

The intended objective of this thread wasn't to make it a place for people too lazy to post their own trade thread, it was more a place for someone who need a socketed item or such where they didn't feel it justified a full trade thread. (Most of the things people look for here should either go for a couple Pgem or for free even.)

reading the above i think the only option is to close this thread. Personally i agree its difficult to find new trades/ follow up on trades. I am just not sure how much the actual volume of new threads would increase and whether this would be a problem? Also threads would than be knocked of the frontpage quicker and thus more easily overlooked.

However I still think it would be better if everyone just posted their own threads. Main reasons.

- Easier to follow/look up and make trades
- People will make more effort to think of what exactly they want to trade. For example someone may be looking for a 3 socket BA, so they just post this into small trade thread. However they may also need a highlords/raven just less urgently. If one was obliged to make a thread more thought would go into what people want -> Higher trade volume which is better for all.
- Rules for the small thread would never be broken ;)

Hey Cat, I have some suggestions. (Might sound stupid though)

Why dont you open a "Medium" ISO thread for people with a bigger wishlist but the rules still apply e.g. Only low - middle tier items...?
I think the reason that most people use this thread is so as not to spam the forums with an unearthly amount of new threads, well I know I do.

OR

Open up several threads where people can do their businesses specifically, like:
A rune thread: Only used when someone is looking to trade for runes (Middle to high runes must be accompanied with evidence)
A high tiered ISO: Really treasured items i.e Double affix GC's, jewels and so on
A middle tiered ISO: Which i guess would be the most used since stuff around here is mostly at this region.
and lastly keeping the
Small ISO: Which is for absolutely single items only?

As a mod, do you not have power to outright delete any post? I don't mean to put any more work on you, but I assume that you check it out every day anyway, and I assume (even more) that it would simply take a couple of clicks (not much time spent...), to get rid of any post that breaks the rules.

No warnings. Just outright delete the post. If something breaks the rules, get rid of it, and make it clear that this is a zero-tolerance policy. If someone is daft enough to repost more than once, leave a PM or post to let them know that one more strike could result in another form of punishment (suspension maybe? I don't think it's severe enough for anything more than that...) Again, this comes down to potentially being a bit more of a hassle for you, but it should at least bring down the number transgressions.

edit: oh, and while they might not be entirely viable, biozai has some interesting ideas there... And it might be worthwhile to continue this discussion in it's own thread...
