Hello dudes,
Kykle, I do not think that the Fire Golem benefits in any way from Fire Mastery. Fire Mastery only applies to whatever the character that has the Fire Mastery, and whatever it hits (for 2x mastery application), or whatever it casts via spells, ctc effects or charges, etc.. Although the Fire Golem is a cast and forget skill it is not continually emanating from the character with the Fire Mastery like for example Armageddon, or Thunderstorm. It is a minion and is therefore treated separately like a Mercenary, and like a Mercenary it's elemental damage would not be affected by the Fire Mastery of another character because it does not have the Fire Mastery itself. I think it would be the same for Fire elemental Skeleton Mages, i.e. they would gain absolutely nothing from Fire Mastery from the Trang-Oul's set. This makes me wonder what the game considers a Hydra to be, as they clearly benefit from Fire Mastery. Hmmmmm. Anyhow, I could be wrong. . . Hopefully, someone with more experience with the specific mechanics can further clarify this for you!

Kykle,
I did some digging and found this quote from RTB (who obviously knows more than I do about this game!). . .
Blizz really did their best on making FG useless. The cap on his aura, two unused values for damage enhancement (physical problably), no synergies for dmg (on itself), a base of 100 fire resist with an additional 100 - fire_absorb (nullifying his innate absorb), the outragous mana cost, etc. If you're hell bent on making it somewhat more useful, +% fire dmg and Fire Mastery (full trang) do boost his dmg, except for the small part from Holy Fire. Oh, and it has a 5% chance of doubling all dmg it does, that includes fire.
So, anyways sorry I gave you some incorrect information! I now wonder if what I said about the Fire Elemental Skeleton Mages not being affected by Fire Mastery is right or wrong. Regardless, check this link for too much information about the Fire Golem:

I was about to say, Fire Mastery works with all fire skills, regardless, including summons.
Fire Golem isn't viable-
1. Its fire, the most common immunity.
2. It attacks extremely slow, so even if you manage 2k+ damage, it won't apply it often.
3. Those that aren't immune to the golem will have decent fire resists, and only an infinity can change that. That might help, but it still doesn't solve the resists problem.
4. It can only attack one enemy at a time. No splash, no pierce, no zeal/fend like attack. Just slow, tedious one hit at a time. Yes, it has the aura, but all that will do is tickle monsters around you. You could however use it to rush normal, where a maxed FG with mastery would do enough damage to take out the monsters.
For the effort you put in, it has the slowest kill speed imaginable and still can't kill immunes. I think not.
Edit: Lower res makes this some what better, but still doesn't solve the immune/kill speed problem. Almost forgot about it for a second...
lower res + infinity can break most immunes, but the damage would still be terrible
o well
