View Full Version : Heaven's Light - suggestion for socket?
Hey people,
My Zealot is currently using a Heaven;s Light with one socket - I've already zealing VERY fast, so I was wondering what you guys would socket in it? I maxed Fana (lvl 26), so he zeals pretty fast - sort of Lightsaber speed.
The 33% CB is great as well - so I can smite bosses very effectively.
One thing I thought about using is a 37% ed jewel... But I'm not sure.
from what i know 2 x shael is the most popular socet style atleast for smiters..
My Heaven's Light noyl has 1 socket though... So you'd suggest that the trend if to socket a Shael in it anyways?

It depends what your other gear is. If you already have enough ias for last smite breakpoint or zeal, then definetly don't put a shael in. More damage is always nice, but if you are lacking in res or something else that soc would be a good place to make up the difference. I think it really depends on what you are planning do with your chr and what his weaknesses are.
^Is there a "IAS/Breakpoint Guide for Dummies" out there, by the way?
I was never a math person. lol
If you google for "diablo 2 speed calculator" without the quotations the top result should be a german weapon speed calculator. It's in english so you don''t need to worry if you don't understand german, I'm just saying it's german because you should look for the ".de" in the address - to be sure you are in the right place. That calculator is a good thing to bookmark, it can tell you all you need to know about Attack speed.
The reason I'm not posting a link is because I'm not sure if the forum rules will allow it.
(BP = breakpoint)
But to sum up what that calculator will tell you, with a maxed Fanat you will need 60 IAS to reach last zeal BP (58 with lvl 26 fanat, but that makes no real difference) and 54 IAS to reach the last Smite BP. You will get 20 IAS on the Heavens Light, So if you wear 20 IAS gloves you need 20 more ias for last Zeal BP - which is a pain because it isn't solveable with just a IAS jewel in helm/armour/shield because that only gives 15 IAS. A 15 IAS jewel will be enough for the last Smite BP.
My advice to you is: Since you are using both Zeal and Smite I would REALLY recomend you trying to get to the last BP. If you are going to go for über trist you will have a real pain getting to the last BP with a 1 os HL, since you will probably be using Draculs Grasp gloves that don't provide any IAS. If you are going to go into über-trist with this fellow: mule this scepter away and get a 2 os and socket it with 2 Shaels and you are at the last BP, however, If you are going to play general PvM you will have to look at your equipment and try to get to the last Zeal and Smite BP - I asure you, it makes difference!
A few possibilities for you:
General PvM: Shael it and use some nice 20 IAS gloves and you are set!
MF-ing: If you are planning on MFing with this guy there is an, atleast theoretical choise. (uped) goldwrap-belt (10 IAS), Stealskull (10IAS) and 20 IAS gloves and you are at the last BP without having to socket a Shael in the weapon. Both Stealskull and Goldwrap have some really good MF and the helm is an overall good helm with dual leech, MF, FHR and IAS, the belt gives good GF, MF and some IAS, apart from that it's pretty weak, so this option should only be used if you are doing a lot of MFing with him.
Über-Trist: don't even bother, you will need a pair of 20 IAS gloves for this to be viable. Taking away your Draculs Grasp and with them, your ctc Life Tap will need you to get an Exile Shield which is very Expensive!
Hope this helped, Good Luck!
^Hey, thanks a lot for the explanation. It sort of made some sense...
Here's my setup at the moment *that is relevant)
Heaven's Light (20%IAS)
Magus Gloves (Orphan's Call gloves - 20%IAS)
Highlord's Wrath (20%IAS)
Nosferatu's Coil (10%IAS)
Lvl 26 Fanaticism
After filling the wep calculator according to "MY" interpreation/understanding, it tells me "Further IAS is useless".
I filled "70%IAS" at the IAS slot, is that right?
If I replace my gloves with Dracul's Grasp, but Shael my Heaven's Light - it'd be +20% - 20%, so my attack speed would still remain the same.
Hehe, I pretty muich forgot about Highlord's, but that's excellent! a Cat's Eye amu would also be nice, saving 25 dex-points and giving FRW along with def and IAS ain't bad!
Yes, you filled it right, and the "futher IAS is useless" makes sence, because you are at the last BP at just 60 IAS making that last 10 IAS "useless". Well, yes, you can change the gloves for draculs If you need that lifetap, however for going in to über trist a pair of draculs is not enough, you will need about 270 Res all (not psn) to handle Mephs conviction, for more info read the 1pt smiter guide.
MY advice is the same: if you are going to do über trist, get a 2 os HL. For general PvM, get Laying of Hands Bramble Mits, set gloves. They give 50 fireres, 20 IAS and +350% ED to Demons. Personally I love these glvoes, but it's pretty much up to you, I do not know if Life tap is needed for non-über-trist play. It's pretty much up to personal taste, but you can change the belt if you need something else like res, then get Credendum belt which give +10 str, +10 dex and +15 res all. But slows target and life leech is allways good, the IAS however is not needed, think about what you need the most. If you are changing your belt you will lose LL, this can be solved by the Draculs grasp because of it's life leech and life/kill and of course also by the ctc Life Tap.
Just some more thoughts, good luck!
Laying of Hands sounds like a pretty good idea, I'll look into it.
Again, thanks for the advice.
