Bonemancer: Homunculus or Boneflame?

Guys I'm a little confused as whether to use a boneflame or a homunculus for my bonemancer. He specializes in bone spear. I got hold of a boneflame with +3 skills (paid hefty price, a pul rune), and am quite happy with it. My only concern is that it doesn't provide enough resistances in hell.

I've read everywhere and most people recommend homunculus, nobody even mentions boneflame. Can someone post their experience with a bone spear necro using homunculus or a boneflame? Thanks!

homonc is better if you want max block, otherwise boneflame is good

The boneflame is given a quick discussion in the first post of the Ubersum necro guide thread, too, here on the front page. I think the thread also talks about what goes well with it as far as weapon, too.

Thank you all... I usually cast a bone wall and fire bone spear from behind. To calculate how many times I use blocking with shield, I fully repaired my current shield and played for full day. At the end of the day, the durability was still 100%, means I haven't been blocking much. So my playing style goes more in favor of boneflame. Thanks all for the nice discussion and hints!

in your case i would use a darkforce with 3pb because of the 30fcr

homu has alot of very nice stats to go along with it, if u need the fcr use boneflame if u dont try out both, see which u like better, usually the 1 extra skill from boneflame isnt anything to worry about, but if u duel alot the max block route can be a life saver

bone flame got max. 30 resi and the skill varies from 2-3.
dark force got the 30fcr and all skills (sum, pb, curse) varies from 1-3.

A necro should make a spirit runeword only in Monarch. Still it requires a lot of strength to lift! 156 I guess... Unless I have an enigma, I can never dream of weilding a monarch as a necromancer, though I have kept two sets of spirit runes already :tongue: Thanks for reminding me of Spirit!

spirit nec will not have max block and neither will he be a vita nec because of str req

not an ideal shield when there are so many other options

Guys, finally I sold off my Boneflame, and got a homunculus. To be precise, I'm happier with Homunculus even though it gives only +2 skills. The main reasons was resistances. Because of Homunculus, I am able to get 75 resist all in Hell (of course I got it socketed and inserted a perfect diamond). Now those lightning souls and meteors can't kill me, and I am able to stand even Baal with ease.

I say that for me, homunculus is surely better than boneflame if you plan to play Hell difficulty ever.
