View Full Version : There used to be an item show off thread and... a goodbye

Since I have had a couple of folks ask me to show off some of the stuff I had at my disposal before quitting and going away, I figured I may as well upload some screen caps of some stuff stuff. I have had a couple of requests to see what some of this stuff looked like, and rather than bother with the whole /pm e-mail thing to multiple people I thought this might prove useful.

Some of it, ya'll may have seen before, such as the first image, the Wirt's bo stick.

This was all east, softcore ladder stuff a few months ago (prior to the reset obviously) and much of it Ray traded for, with some notable exceptions. The mart he found with his mephy glitcher, and the barb's boots I found with my mf angies/barb - cant recall if they were a council drop/urk, or elsewhere.

Not sure how much Ray showed off before he quit but aside from the wirt's leg, the first couple dozen screen caps are the gear Ray had accumulated for his lvl 92 blizzer, and lvl 90 BvA (plus some extras)

Starting after that is some miscellaneous stuff from my Sorc/Din/MF Barb - some probably not worth showing, but as an example there's an ammy in there that would be SICK if it had skills on it. fcr, life/energy priz, with stacks as an example. Some of the socked gear is "iffy" as being worthy of a socket, and no doubt some will question how/if I socked them. I would rather not clutter up the thread with such speculation, it serves no point, and I already readily admit that some of it is/was not worth the hole that's in it. Regardless, remember this is all an entire ladder season's worth of gear accumulation, and some things changed in value dramatically over that time frame due to several exploits.

Finally, I'm usually not big on "going away" threads or saying goodbye, especially with me hinting at it in several threads over the past few weeks. However, I guess this will serve as a good bye as well. It's high time that I moved on to more productive pursuits, and the game while a fun diversion, is easiest to quit if I just make a clean break.

I already dumped 14+ mules in a series of normal games this past Sunday, (prior to tonight's screen capture-festival) and what you see here is pretty much spoken for - if the new owners of the accounts/characters/gear see fit, they are welcome to raffle it off via some fun contest, give away, whatever. I may check in on the forum from time to time out of boredom at work, but honestly do not anticipate returning to the game.

Any way, on with the show...

WOW, bummer man, sorry to see such an active member of this community quit D2. Good luck in your future endeavors Goomba. Remember, ladder does reset (supposedly) X-mas time :wink3:

Cya.

btw, the item showoff thread is in the sticky, kind of fell down. I was actually going to post a few things in it, just haven't yet.

thanks jake. I tried pinging you in game, as well as asking you about the ladder/glitcher but guessing it wasn't you on that account...

I have already laid out plans for the xfer of items/accounts for the most part, what the new custodians/owners do with those accounts is honestly up to them, even though mostly they have all said the same thing I have in the past, that they intend to keep them intact in case I come back.

That's honestly not my intent. I do hope that the new folks using the gear/accounts enjoy it as much as I have.

Fair enough, Just didn't want to make sure godly items didn't go to waste or end up expired/sold for 35k gold =/

many NLD barbs on east also beat "me" (and that character).

yes, the twinking dupes are a bit crazy, as are the other gear.

it's not uncommon for an similar mart/bh barb to be close in overall defense to what you see here, but with 60 or 70 or even more fewer points allocated to str and instead allocated to vitality. Remember however, that this was a ladder barb w/out the access to the level of twinking gear that the old dupes allow for, or -40 req ornates

with the lvl 31 bo, and the def ornate, ray's barb has 4k life, and something like 10k defense wearing the shield, 6700 or so using the mart. (he's not "done" as a BvA/BvB due to lacking a maxed shout)

the mart is obviously massive however, and often when I was playing with it at least, I found that most one on one BvB duels were as expected, simultaneous deaths, which usually surprised barbs wearing typical rcage/gtoes combo's and 5k life (or more)

I also have oft, previously acknowledged the PvP is not my preference, nor my specialty. that lld pike is fun, but I never even bothered to finish assembling the gear for him, lvl 19 quite simply does not have enough mana for it to be an enjoyable pursuit of mine.

anyway, under the /morestuff link you'll see the leachy mart, and leachy gloves that added to the fr of angellics, and lr that belt, and boots made it so easy for me to do countless council runs w/out dying, even to the legendary electrical/fire enchanted member - true, there were some close calls, but I tended to lure a few out to kill first, rather than trying to take on the whole hoard like one would normal cows...

lol. I had jumped into a couple of games last night to screen capture some of this gear. a couple of games happened to be duel game, where a level 5x sorc was doing her best to learn how to play the game.

when I was on the barb, I was just trying to practice getting her into leap-stun-lock with the lowly lvl 1 leap / leap attack. ended up killing her once or twice, as did the other barb in the game, was that you?

anyway, later on, when checking some gear on my lvl 90 blizzer, I happened to land in an act 3 game, and helped some newer kid finish act 3 - fastest teleport to mephy ever for me - durance 3 happened to be literally one room over from the durance 2 wp

the godliest of items were akukami's - I was quite happy with just "good items" which are plenty sufficient for a PvM specialist such as myself - heck, some of you more sharp sighted folks will no doubt notice that my din, while wearing a very nice green spiked shield, is also wearing hotspurs which while lovely boots for csing, are certainly not "GG" as they say on the realms

That particular Barb WAS done. I wasn't going to finish putting the points into Iron Skin. That would've been for a real BvB. Also, if you noticed, when I gave you the account, I had a LOT of extra BvB gear on it. I was saving that for the next Barb I was going to bring to NL after the Season 4, and that was going to be the BvB I wanted. But as you know, my interest died out, and the rest is history.

there was an extra ornate on the BvA is all ray. I did toss an rcage on it to mess around with cage/gtoes and that massive mart, but didn't spend a lot of time on the barb other than showing it off to see if I could gather "off-realm" interest in acquiring the gear

the blizzer too has an ornate, a grim helm, a pair of gloves, and a bh on it as well in the stash/cube which I think show up in the screen caps that are more BvB type.

I was going to give Katy the account actually, she expressed some interest in terrorizing folks with a "finished" blizzer without having to go through the trouble/pain of leveling one herself  I have already given her quite a bit of socked gear from some of my other chars, including a 17/30/20 priz 6x cr stack spiked that was on OMGPigsCanFly from way back in the day, and the LR stack bone that was on my mephy glitcher

As for the barb, I haven't given anything away yet. I had some ideas of where I thought some folks would enjoy/benefit from certain gear, and there is one individual that is certain he's getting the grim helm but he'd get over it if he never sees it.

as to the other post, yes - my waffling over whether to quit or not for the past few months is over, there's one guy on my /f list from way back that I'd like to say good bye to, and give some gear to, I'm hoping he's on late Sunday so I can do that.

I'm seeing a fair amount of my old gear in that first group.

dunno Steve. The only gear in the first group that I know of for certain was found by me/ray is the Mart, and the BvA's boots, and the blizzer's belt.

(it's not the belt ray had on it when he quit, he was wearing a 2 row belt, that honestly I don't know how he played with, freaking zero energy added = 2 pots minimum teleport to cs w/out a BO, and I mostly used her to do seal raids, meaning she needed more blue pots so I replaced the belt)

I'm pretty sure I also had the blizzer's gloves and possibly the barb's gloves as well - I know I had given Ray some gloves very similar to both at one point, but it's no secret as to how carefree I was regarding memorizing certain statistics, or exact item mods in this game.

Too bad to see you go goomba.

I play Diablo2 now only 1-2 hours a day max. Baal's have ruined it. Most of the time just sit in channel and talk to old friends, but that can go on only so long. Soon ppl will come and see no one and not see anyone worth playing or talking to for weeks. Then they will quit for good.

The channel I sit in is closed now to baalers, which is about half the people who used to go there. A quarter of my f list is removed. People I've played with for several years are no longer welcome. They've helped chase away other more valued friends and now must pay the consequences.

Why support cheaters? Just let the game die off for awhile and let Blizzard know that will mean real $$ in the future, cuz its next 'patch' wont be trusted to fix much of anything, for long. Why support supporters of cheaters?

Next patch/ladder =

At some point you just have to move on from a job. Some people can do the same job for lifetime, most people shouldn't. It creates bitter people who wish they had taken a different route along the way. So I can only applaud you standing up and heading towards something else, potentially better.

Thank you. I had been "on loan" / Assigned to our IT/GIS department for a number of years (nearly 4) - the verbal promise had been made that it would eventually turn into a transfer.

anyway, that assignment ended last year, on the Wednesday before our Thanksgiving Holiday, without said transfer. I made it perfectly clear that I was no longer interested in my former duties before I had been put on loan, but that I would attempt to fulfill those duties whilst I looked for an alternative employer and not "kick sand" in the faces of my bosses, or colleagues.

It mostly worked out, albeit it was a very long process of 11 months of many, many, many interviews.

I'm happy to say, that a former boss actively recruited me, and even had a position reclassified to make it work out, and I will be once again, doing more IT/Database and potentially GIS work when I report in early November.

different commute, which is a relief. I had been chasing any opportunity previous to this one - many of which would have involved relocations of up to thousands of miles.

Thankfully I don't currently see that being a necessity to uproot my family.

That depends on how you look at it. Right now, I'm capitalizing on the up and downward trends of the market. I've gotten pretty good at predicting high and low days, and even days when the market bluffs. It's fun seeing my small investment grow since I started two months ago, and I'm actually thinking about using some of the profits to buy a house to fix up and have it rented. not the first time ever, however first time ever in your life perhaps. it was last at "par" back in the 1970s.

I was literally referring to foreign currencies that previously had their own domestic monetary policy hinged on the US Dollar - e.g. for the longest time the Saudi's monetary policy mirrored the US'

For the longest time, this nation's federal debt has been financed via foreign investment in US Bonds, and other securities - Billions are and have been unloaded over the past 8 months, weakening our dollar considerably.

Add to that, the very very very very very scary housing market that is spreading bad news like wildfire, record levels of foreclosure, as well as default on unsecured debt such as credit cards, and/or other personal debt such as vehicle loans and it's a huge, huge disaster ready to happen.

If the stock market goes into the dumpster, I'll be very happy. Either way the market goes, - up, down, or sideways - I'll still be making money in the form of Puts and Covered Calls. Yes, they do teach you how to do that in the program I told you about. It's quite interesting, and with the serious downfalls I'm expecting, there's a lot of money to be made.

As for the housing market, it's really in favor of buyers right now. Real estate brokers and sellers alike are becoming more desperate to sell off their properties before the mortgages they have eat them alive. Just this week, a man on my block, who was asking $750,000 for his house, (one-family, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, living room, and semi-finished basement) gladly accpeted an offer of $490,000 for everything - house, furniture, and appliances included. And he had his house on the market for nearly two years, so you can imagine the payments (or in his case, NON-payments) that accumulated during that time.

Right now, I'm doing some house hunting, and I'm looking for a multi-family house, but not just any multi-family house. I'm talking about an old, broken-windows, hole-in-the-roof, feces-infested bathroom...you get the idea...piece of crap I can knock down, re-build, and rent out to someone. And you'd be surprised at how many people are looking for apartments. Last week, our first tenants moved into the fully restored two-family home my parents and I had been holding for a while. But just finding good tenants took a lot of work. In a span of two months, after putting the apartments up for rent, I went through about 70 phone calls, 30 tours, and hours of deliberation with my parents to decide who stays, and who gets kicked off the island - and this was per WEEK.

In the end, it was worth it. I am now expecting an extra $1,500 (after mortgage payments, landscaping fees, etc.) - IN THE FORM OF CASH, ZOMG!!! - in my pocket per month. I can finally afford to buy my sweetheart something really nice this Christmas!

I bought my first house a few years ago when the market was at a low. I bought my house for $150,000. I sold it about 1.5 years ago for $215,000  I then rented for about 6 months, at which point I found a home I just had to have. (I had been keeping an eye out the whole time while renting) Bought my current home for $250,000 (I got a good deal on it too  )

That is the extent of my knowledge of stock/housing markets :prop:

So, you invest into the stock markets then Akukami? I've never been one to take risks with my money, no form of gambling, lotto, etc... I would be hard pressed to take my money into stocks, unless I knew what I was doing. But I guess you do!

To me, money is an illusion. Yes, we all work hard for it, but that's only because most of us need it in order to survive in this crazy world. Think about it: what do most of us really work for? Money to pay all of our debts, feed ourselves and our families, and put a roof over our heads, right? While a lot of people resort to getting a job and working for money, I think of it differently. Instead of a job, I replace it with an investment - stocks, real estate, or tax liens - to make the money I need to cover my need/want expenses. Of course, I've made a lot of costly mistakes, - couple thousand wasted here, a hundred I could've saved there - but I have never let any of those learning experiences stop me from doing what I'm doing right now. When folks much older than me ask what company I work for, I always tell them I'm unemployed. Considering my age, most of them tell me I should consider getting a job so I can move out of my parent's home, that I shouldn't be so idle and laid back, that I should start worrying about the future and such...all of which I take with a simple smile on my face. Besides, I like having a low profile.

Now if that were true, why am I talking about all of this? Simple: more than 75% of the people who read this will say I'm full of crap, or they don't believe what I'm talking about. But that's fine with me; I particularly welcome the ones that say it can't be done because I use them as my motivation to prove them wrong.

I am aware of how to play the market in both directions. the concern/worry is when to literally pull out completely, and turn everything into literal/physical gold...

sure, you can make money by timing a fall, but if each of those dollars you earn doing so literally is worth pennies less each minute that goes by (study your history books about rampant inflation in end-stage WW2 Germany, or in various South American Countries) then what really have you gained?

Also, do not ignore the power of desperate people en masse... sweeping social changes can/have been enacted in the past, and can again - not to mention the criminal element.

All of that is true, but that's not what I was talking about. Think about it: right now, I'm making money using money instead of getting a job and working for it. The difference between the two is that there is no boss telling me what I have to do, no deadlines for projects to get done, and no worries about losing my job and finding a new one. And because of this, I have a lot of time on my hands, most of which I use to take care of my little cousin. If I had a job, I probably wouldn't be able to do that.

That's awesome ray. I have a couple 100$ and was looking at stock market. I guess there alot of things I need to look up/read about before putting any serious money into. But it sounds interesting :P
