apparently according to at least one baal running pub, they crash games because even if you have the torch in the stash, it'll still "work".

Heh, of course it works in stash too! Another page filled in the big book of knowledge by the all knowing people in pubs

On zons in general while using torches:
Well sure we cause more torch fires then other builds, but it's still most of the time below the line for a game to drop. It's when those extra attackers come in and also attack it'll most surely fall over the edge.

I'm was a bit annoyed, when lvling my ama in cs, at seeing smiters cause more torches to fire. As if their damages added much to the killspeed compared to my "all and everything hitting" multi

strafe+torch, LF and multi are all some of biggest contributors to games crashing. Multi+torch isn't much different from multi by itself though and won't output the amount of hellfire something like a shifter druid can. I wouldn't say multi's any worse than an orb sorc under most circumstances.

the problem was that they wouldnt party me. i told them, hey i understand i have a 5str large charm in my stash for pub baaling/chaosing so i am prepared, but they were complete asshats about it, saying "why are you here, you could have been in another game by now" and i was like well what if they're as big a morons as you and wont party me either. so i shadowed them for a few games and made a jackass out of myself by teleing to throne w/ my hammerdin and killing things w/o partying with them, then left disgusted by them and my own reaction.

piss on them.

Bnet is full of tough 10 year olds, didn't you know that? Everyone gets that internet strength that makes them invincible.

Having said that, I have been booted from games just by using an LF zon. I think it depends on what other "mods" are stressing that particular server. How many commandomancers and how many LF zons and how many torch's there are on that particular server at that particular time. I don't think that just because you have a torch on a zon that you are makeing the server lag and then drop.

But I like your response. Don't be ashamed. I would have done the same thing. Killing things unpartied probably made them even more mad at you. That's XP they didn't get.

When they're like that I'd deliberately spam LF/multi too make it crash

I have several Zon builds, and always remove my torch when running in pubby baal runs.

When i'm hosting the runs myself on my Hammerdin, I politely ask the Zon/s to remove their torch.

After that, everything runs smoothly...

Unfortunately, there are know-it-alls in a lot of Baal runs who will tell you that even without a torch a Zon will drop the game. They rate about equal with the "You have to hit with an Ondals to get the extra experience" idiots.

Of course, you can't reason with them, they already know everything about D2. Just ask them and they'll tell you..

I think I am guilty of causing a fairly recent game drop with my Frostmaiden when strafing at Lister and his crew. I was in a Baal game with Meteorb sorcs, an LF zon, myself, and hammerdins...and it was a laggy night. Lister was charging toward me and my Valk, and I opened fire with several rounds of Strafe, fire crawled all over the floor as the sorcs rained Meteors around me and the LF zon threw her volley... Instant drop. We never killed Lister in time. Everyone was bewildered in the next run, but I knew in my heart what had happened. I kept quiet about it, though.

In general, it's rare that I experience game drops while Baaling, due to torches or other special effects going off. I've been in games with 3 or 4 LF zons and no problem with drops. I've had people complain to me about my Conviction Zealot who uses a Voice of Reason, which casts Frozen Orb and Ice Blast like crazy (because I have a 4 fps Zeal on him); I've had complaints in the past when playing a Javazon; running around with lots of anorexic skeletons as a Necro; it just never ends.

Drops of any kind are much more prominent on the weekends, presumably due to increased server load and lag. I personally want to blame them on the lag and drop monsters, which lurk on dark and stormy D2 nights.

Problem is I depend on those strength points. Lol, i guess the solution is to get a nice anni "just-in-case"? The best solution is if the damn torches didn't have that mod on it in the first place.

I remember the time I first got it, and then being promptly annoyed at how blinding the fire is (very easy to lose sight of a Fanat Fallen boss pack, dolls, etc. in that fire). I don't think a single person would mind if they took the CTC firestorm out at all...but that belongs in the wishful thinking 1.12 patch thread :(

Those of you who feel guilty about crashing games with your spam-heavy characters: don't. It's Blizzard's fault for altering the servers to crash easier to curb duping... which in turn is the fault of the vast majority who cheat at the game. Since a Bowazon is one of my all-time favourite characters to play, I've abandoned bnet for good in favour of good ol' SP and RL (real life!).

I for one like the CTC Firestorm, but I'd prefer it to be a little more powerful, and something along the lines of a skill level that scales with your level; i.e. 25% CTC level xx Firestorm (based on character level), where xx is e.g. clvl*0.4 (slvl 30 at level 75 to slvl 39 at level 98/99). That would give me a little more incentive for leveling up to extremely high levels, anyway.

I like the firestorm too, actually pretty powerful. Makes a noticable difference trying to jab high physical resistant/low hp enemies like gloams.

I could quite happily loose the firestorm, makes no difference to my killing speed. I do notice that when playing a zon in baal runs that i get more crashes. Torch doesn't do much for a zon.
